This is the best rMBP battery install video on youtube. quick and to the point, minus the babbling bs or sales pitch.. its complete and with a focus on only what you need to do to finish the job. nothing more, nothing less. Well done sir.
Have to agree. 1) It didn't start with "HEY GUYS!" 2)Sped up vid with captions. Just enough info for me to decide I'm dong this myself. Thanks to Minute DIY!
This is HANDS DOWN the best DIY video I’ve ever watched/used on TH-cam. Directions were very detailed (as they needed to be bc screws are different lengths, etc..) and they were written on the screen so you can pause it at each step of the battery replacement. I wish everyone did DIY videos like you. Or better yet, if you just did every DIY video. Haha Thank you soo much!
That is what I did after this comment I was to be cleaning up my tackle box anyways and found some breaded 20 pound line, I tied them around two small screw drivers and it was such an easy job! None of this warming up the things and blah-deee-blah it was less than 10 minutes all together.
This video is so perfect, concise, to the point and helpful I searched to dig up my old login info so I could "like" and post. Thanks for making a video that doesn't waste people's time with verbal babbling as so many others do.
Just had to replace my battery, earlier today. I must thank you for making this video, good sir. So direct, and to the Point. No Nonsense. I love it. Thank you so much for your work!
This video was perfect. Explained everything well. The identifier at the top got me to the perfect battery on amazon. $47. And this was perfect - everything worked - computer works better - can’t say enough about how easy this made it without extraneous steps and with only what you need to do. I watched in its entirety twice before I did this. I used nail polish remover with 100% acetone as my adhesive remover. Was perfect. This made it all a much better option than Apple’s or letting the battery continue to swell. I appreciate the time to make this video.
Well I don't believe it! Just replaced my battery using your instructions ( I'm a 66 year old luddite with no tech ability) and it worked! Did find that Apple had scrimped on the four screws holding down battery and had just filled the holes with tiny rubber grommets (shame on them) but they made up for it with the super strong glue. Repeatedly broke several layers of dental floss so I ended up using a plastic loyalty card (woops, you should see the state of the card by the end). Getting old glue off was the worst part, tried WD40, didn't work, resorted to nail polish remover. Took a long time to get clean. Many thanks for good easy to follow instructions, if I can follow anyone can.
Perfect video! saved me £60 getting a repair shop to do this for me. I was only considering repair shop after looking at iFixit guide and all this talk of dissolving glue!? Dental Floss! Bloody Genius!! No mess No nonsense. Amazing video WAAAAY better than the iFixit Guide. Thank You
Thanks for the tutorial! Just finished replacing the battery and everything worked out great. My old battery was ruined - spilled water on it - and now my faithful MAC is as good as new. Thanks again!
Very nice video. Just finalized battery replacement of my MBP 2014. Used also few ml of accetone to soften the adhesive and a plastic card. Was easier than I initially thought, your video helped alot. Thanks!
Thanks for the video! Very easy to follow. Took me like 1.5. hours total. My floss kept breaking apart so I ended up using an old credit card which worked much better. Overall, saved me few hundred bucks!
Thanks! This was short, simple and well done. I took notes and everything went off without a hitch. I'm now typing from my newly replaced battery Mac. So big thank you!!!
This was extremely helpful and very easy, it is tough for me to remove the old battery after unscrewing everything but eventually I got that, once that was done I just popped in the new battery and it everything is working fine
Best install video for this model by far. The iFixit guide is so bad. Did this whole thing in ~45 minutes with a $40 battery off amazon. Instead of floss i used sutures i had lying around. Cleaned off the residue with GooGone and alcohol swabs.
thanks for sharing the video. i never seen a mac with glued in batteries before. this was nuts. you have to be careful not to bend the batteries during removal as they can smoke / even set on fire if they are not drained properly & bended!
Nice, I gave my dad my old 2014 MacBook Pro when I bought my new 16 inch. The battery on it is in need of service, so this will definitely save some cash instead of taking it to the Apple Store.
You could not have posted this video at better time. I checked my battery status of my mid 2014 retina and it said service battery its cycle count is at 717 and the battery is not holding up to good. Buying the battery of amazon is the way to go I grabbed a different battery than the one you listed for $45.99 since I have prime this particular one I listed was one day free shipping. On ifixit the battery with no kit to install it is $89.99 ,rip off, but not as horrific if you were to bring it to apple for them to fix. Wow short and to the point and super informative. Ill be referencing this video alot when I get at this installation tomorrow. Means an awful alot to me thanks.
Thanks so much for writing! I am glad it timed out well :) To me the hardest part is the tedious process of removing all the old adhesive - other than that it’s a pretty simple job. Wish you the best, let me know how it goes! luke
Typing this just 10 minutes after the install. The screwdrivers that came with the battery are almost complete trash but they got this job done. I forgot that I had no torx 5 screwdriver. I ended up just shoving the smallest flat head in my possession and lodging it in nooks of the screw and twisted it slowly out. Ended up not even removing the left or right speakers I completely worked around them. I used unwaxed dental floss I soaked in acetone i dont think it really was on there ,regardless I managed to easily cut through the adhesive with just a slight bit of elbow grease and wrapping the floss around my fingers tightly. My install was pretty much 99% exactly like you did it in the video. Funny thing it came with 65% already charged and a cycle count of just 1. I feel so accomplished, middle fingers up to apple and their genius bar overpricing repairs like this.
How's your new battery holdin up? I also have a mid 2014 retina (15-inch) and decided to buy the $89.99 ifixit kit with tools just to be safe as I read the battery appears to be a high quality OEM battery. Almost got the $45 one but didn't want to risk it because I work from home on this computer. My battery was getting real hot and my fans were going crazy for a while that's why I got the battery. Now for some reason I let the old battery go down to 0 and it turned off the computer.. After I recharged it, it seems to be working totally fine even though my computer does say Service Battery and it's at 635 cycle count. The help section said my computer should be fine until I want to replace the battery. I think I'll wait until it starts acting up again until I change it out to the new ifixit one. Especially that I see your cycle count is at 717. I'll post my updates here as a response or a new comment if it helps anyone. Cheers

Tip - use gloves to relieve the pressure from the wire from your fingers - took around 45 minutes tops - $45 total cost. EZ PZ !
Hi, thanks for your excellent video - battery changed and working fine 😀. Only problem now is that the keyboard and trackpad don’t work now. I have tried resetting the SMC and NVRAM but that doesn’t work. My Mac works with an external keyboard and mouse so I think I must have undone or damaged the cable or connector. Any ideas on how to fix this?? Thanks
Thank you done it took me about 1h30mims hardest bit for me was the dental floss bit. Thank you saved me lots of money. Also my MacBook Pro late 2013 only has the 1 screw on the battery near the service sticker. Don't know why it was different. Thank you
hi, a great video and after watching it a couple of times, I was able to remove and install a new battery with confidence. However, I now have no trackpad or keyboard (the internet says this is a common situation). Can you suggest an approach to troubleshoot and fix please? All the videos I've located on this topic feature a different layout for the trackpad ribbon cable and none use the specific model (late 2013 a1502) that I have and that you featured in this excellent tutorial. Many thanks in anticipation for any information!
Hello! There is a connector for the touch pad and a connector for the keyboard that you may have lifted up on accident. The first thing I would do would be to go back and make sure they are both carefully seated in place. If you lifted them and put them back down try to lift them again and carefully reconnect them :) I have a photo of it here: 1) is track pad 2) is keyboard ibb.co/znz4j99
@@MINUTEDIYVIDEOS thanks for the fast reply. I have tried to reseat these and will do so again to ensure they're snug. Thanks again for the speedy response. All the best and wishing you a great Christmas.
By far the BEST DIY battery replacement on youtube. My only suggestions would be if your going to follow along obviously play at .25 speed and pause as needed. Use fishing line or a old gift card/credit card. And to remove the adhesive use 93% alcohol (or higher %) or even tea tree oil. Finally at the end of the video I would insert the two smaller screws FIRST since they are the shortest screws and don't tighten them all the way then use the other longer screws in all four corners followed by the rest of the screws then tighten them all snuggly from one corner to the other corner (diagonally) as if your tuning a drum for drummers I know you guys know what I mean. Hope this helps guys. REMEMBER don't leave the like button grey or your g@y! =)
On the step where it says "REMOVE FOUR TORX SUPPORT SCREWS." In that area, in my mid-2014 MacBook at least. There are squishy dots made of polyurethane. Should I just yank these out?

Hi, I have one question. If I want to replace the original battery to a used battery from another Macbook, what kind of glue should I use? Because the old battery is not sticky but it needs to be fixed.
I replaced the battery in my laptop by following this tutorial and everything was fine for 24 hours. I could see the cycle count reset to 1 after a full charge, but now the battery isn’t even recognized in system information and the laptop will not work without being connected to the power adapter. I found this out by opening the laptop expecting the screen to immediately light up and after pressing the power button a few times and hearing the chimes for only the first few presses, I plugged it in. So basically, what did I mess up? Considering it worked for 24 hours I’m at a loss. I was trying to not have to dish out $1500 and rather just the $120 for the battery but will I now be out the sum of both?
its written in the description if you have a late 2013/eraly 2014, and the rest depends on where you live. Search the battery code on Amazon, you'll find one, its likely A1493.
thank you for your response!! Mine is a Macbook Pro Mid 2014, will that battery work? and if I change it myself is it secure? I mean the process is too delicate??@@LittleMur410
My macbook pro has reached a point where it dies the moment it gets unplugged, and is running extremely sluggishly. Did this process speed up your computer at all once it was finished?
I was doing the same with a fishing line and one battery lit up and whenever I touch it a bit of fire comes out of it. I still had her adhesive to remove what can I do ?
At a minimum, make sure you protect yourself with gloves and goggles and move the battery to a safe spot out doors. If you need to seek assistance from professionals as damaged, punctured batteries are a fire hazard and can cause you harm! Here is a site with some more information: www.newpig.com/expertadvice/how-to-care-for-defective-lithium-ion-batteries/ As with all DIY if you need assistance seek it out, don’t risk harming your property, yourself, or others!
It was insanely difficult maneuvering the floss and scraping the adhesive off. you are going to use a lot of floss cuz that shit breaks…but you can do it
my battery was super hard to get off and it probably took about 2 hours get the old battery off. I installed the new one, but now my keyboard and trackpad won't work and the fan is running pretty loud. anyone know what's wrong?
My MBP has been telling me that my battery needs replaced for close to four years. I decided to buy a battery on eBay and give a DIY replacement a shot. I thought it would be as easy as unscrewing the screws at the bottom, popping out the old battery, and plugging the new one in. After watching this video, I see that was wishful thinking. This looks like more trouble than what it's worth. I'm very squeamish when it comes to working inside electronic devices, so the thought of having to lift up the speakers and disconnect the connector made me ill. Maybe I'll just leave my laptop the way it is…
Damn... I went to a store where they buy refurbished macbooks and also repair macbooks and they said they couldn’t change the battery because it was a bit swollen and it could be dangerous... so I guess I have to take it to apple and see how much time and money it will cost because Idom’t think I can do this T_T

thank you for your response!! Mine is a Macbook Pro Mid 2014, will that battery work? and if I change it myself is it secure? I mean the process is too delicate??@@LittleMur410
Thank you for showing me why I do not want to do this. Saved me some $$.
If my old battery has about 734 cycles with the service logo, should I replace it despite it not being completely drained?
Incredibly Based Video
My macbook pro has reached a point where it dies the moment it gets unplugged, and is running extremely sluggishly. Did this process speed up your computer at all once it was finished?
Thanks for yr video i managed to replace my battery
Thank you for this!
Here is a site with some more information: www.newpig.com/expertadvice/how-to-care-for-defective-lithium-ion-batteries/
As with all DIY if you need assistance seek it out, don’t risk harming your property, yourself, or others!
Has anyone tried to follow this tutorial over a 15'' model mid 2014? Is there any hardware difference beside the scale? Tnx.
Brilliant, helped me... Thank you
It was insanely difficult maneuvering the floss and scraping the adhesive off. you are going to use a lot of floss cuz that shit breaks…but you can do it
my battery was super hard to get off and it probably took about 2 hours get the old battery off.
I installed the new one, but now my keyboard and trackpad won't work and the fan is running pretty loud. anyone know what's wrong?
Thank you! I did it! 💪🏼
Maybe I'll just leave my laptop the way it is…
que buen video, de los mejores tutoriales
Does this video works the same for 15" inch macbooks ?
I'm wondering the same thing.
Hello sir, just want to know if I replace the battery, will it wipe the data from the SSD?
thanks
I'm pretty sure it won't, but you should always have a time machine backup on a USB drive (cause when you have it, you're good even if it will)
Excellent
Just did id, great tutorial ... Thanks
Where would I be able to buy the best battery. I’m scared I get these cheap Chinese ones.
Does the battery last as long as the OEM battery?
Why the buggers use so much adhesive baffles me.
Rolada battery? Is it good? Lasts for how many hours?
where i can buy battery
Damn... I went to a store where they buy refurbished macbooks and also repair macbooks and they said they couldn’t change the battery because it was a bit swollen and it could be dangerous... so I guess I have to take it to apple and see how much time and money it will cost because Idom’t think I can do this T_T
Call me an idiot but I used a plastic fork from Chipotle to get the battery out
Excellent :)
You're an idiot.
It's not stupid if it works. Good job dude.
God I followed everything and suddenly my keyboard won’t work
Fucking Genius! Floss or fish line! Nice tips thumbs up!
Thanks for your very helpful video.!!! It was really easy and saved me money..!!! T H A N K Y O U . . ! ! !
Aaaaaaand taking it to apple store
😂 I feel that :) thanks for watching! 🙏🏻
Shit at this point I’d rather just pay somebody to do it
I’m too afraid that I’m gonna destroy my MacBook, I don’t have the money for another one
