"One of our fighting positions is sustaining fire." "We've lost a fighting position." "Our supply line is cut. Germans are making a push!" "We just lost a heavy tank." "A medium tank was just lost." "Light vehicle just got destroyed." "Damn Krauts just wasted some of our riflemen!" "WE LOST A GUN CREW!" "Casualty reports are flooding in, units are losing men to the cold!" "Do something! We're down to 10 points, dammit!" "Krauts attacking the HQ! "HQ DESTROYED!" "Krauts just handed our ass to us. Pull back, all forces pull back!"
I wonder who decided that the USF announcer should be so insecure. These lines are very informative, a little uninspiring but they work. But one really stands out: “Do something! We’re down to 10 points, dammit” I find that it really highlights his nervous and uneasy nature. Coupled with his shaky tone of voice, it makes him feel out of place in a way. Like, he does not belong in the position that he is in, which is the announcer for the USF. I guess I shouldn’t be surprised, considering the overall lackluster, out of place and sometimes generic voicelines for their units, not to mention the borderline absurd idle dialogue between infantry, with the G.I's being presented as potential communists. While that might have been true in a few cases, it’s definitely not the first thing that crosses your mind when you think of US and USSR relations. Well, the soundtrack is good.
Considering this is during the Battle of the Bulge, it makes sense that he'd be so jittery. Think about it: You've been taken by surprise in freezing conditions previously thinking you'll just "sit it out". Then the German army makes that massive push to your position. As for the idle unit dialogue I didn't really notice until I found individual TH-cam vids for them. It's about as generic as can be. I can't recall any communist-esque dialogue amongst GIs though. Throughout matches there is only one rifleman idle quote that comes to mind the most: "After this I just want to fade away. Disappear from the world. Get away from all this killing."
Brit Lynx Thanks for responding. Now that you mention it, he does fit well in the US campaign. But I do not think that he fits in multiplayer, as those battles are not centred on the Ardennes Counteroffensive. I suppose it just comes down to personal preference. I would have preferred an announcer who is more confident, but it is what it is. When it comes to the idle dialogue, there are the generic ones and then there are those that I mentioned (the communist stuff). I personally don’t find them generic, but very out of place and kinda immersion breaking. I don’t hate COH 2, but it does have its issues and some of those issues are difficult to not criticise.
Recker_YT -StayFrosty Thanks for your reply. I guess it’s fitting, considering they are losing the war. Although I do have to say that the OKW announcer got nothing on Hauptmann Voss in terms of voice.
This theme only occurs in Western Front Armies maps. There aren't many of those, so it's possible you're just stuck with soviet themes if you prefer eastern front maps.
Try this map in skirmish "Hurtgen Forest" using oberkomando or British can conquer this map hehehe, the key to control it is to make an outpost base to the left or even better to the right, you can take it with just 2 sturmpioneers,2 volksgrenadiers and 3 Raketenwerfer (correct me if I am wrong)
