Be careful of "stateroom upgrades". I received a "stateroom upgrade", and I was upgraded to a room right under the pool deck. I got to enjoy deck chairs being moved around by the crew before 6AM every morning and at around 12:30AM at night. Just be sure the upgrade is actually an upgrade.
I'm preparing for my first cruise--these were GREAT tips! Things I would have never thought about (like not going on excursions on every port & private dining) were so important. Thank you both!
I agree whole heartedly with everything!! My husband and I were on the Carnival Fantasy last June and our best day was our last day because we just spent the day in our room reading our books. We only left to get food when we were hungry. Another Tip: -Some of the newer ships will let cruisers eat in the specialty restaurants for FREE but it is only a lunch time and you will order from a select menu.
We opted into that one time. Usually we are always alone during our dinners but one day it was quite packed so they asked us if we minded sitting with others and we didnt mind. It was really nice, they were 2 people from Canada and it was really interesting talking with them about the differences between Canada and USA
If you've prepaid your tips, you can also go to guest services and tell them what percentage to give to each service. For example I give 50% to housekeeping and split the remainder amongst the other services.
+2 tips Hunt for every discount. Check your employer, AAA, even Sams Club or Costco. Sometimes they have free upgrades or free on board credit. Show to port early. I hate long lines. You also can order your own bottles of liquor for your room if your order 2 weeks in advance.

I would’ve added one more tip to this and that would be because of limited Wi-Fi on board download any films or TV episodes that you may want to watch on board prior to Leaving your home. This goes for books on your kindle/ reading app as well

5:25 GREAT TIP! You don't know how many times someone I recommended take a cruise said to me that it wasn't advertised because the ship was old. I then ask how much was it for the whole week on the site. As soon as I heard $200, I just shook my head. Rule is this, cheaper price in the summer months, older ship.

Oh the main thing is great information.I am retired military and I'm use to packing certain things and carry on you mentioned. However, most info you provided I would not know.If my friend would not have told me to watch this video I would've. Usually I fly international directly to the country but have never cruised before. Good to know some of those same rules apply. Other things I had to find out the hard way when traveling were.. -Inform bank/ cc company before traveling -Keep cash on hand (usually I forex conversion now) -Everything is not all inclusive. (I went to an all inclusive resort and bayyyybyyyy...) -Double check time difference and set your watch -Don't book an excursion within 1 hour of your arrival time and use viator or trip advisor -Make a copy or take a pic of your passport and keep it on your phone.

These are all great tips. I go on cruises alot. We also use local tours and excursions on the island they are cheaper but sometimes its safer to use the ships on certain things.
My husband is a very experienced cruiser and he forgot to put his phone in airplane mode and he got an outrageous bill as a result. So... Now I always remind him about this. These are great tips! I agree with all of them!

Thanks for the tips love your channel I went on my first cruise in May to Alaska I booked excursions at every port only one excursion was thru the cruise line but in skyway the ship left almost 2 hours late I was on the balcony an saw and a bus pull up and unload a bus full of passengers. I know the ship will wait if you book via the ship I was nervous at the next port but all my excursions got me back to the ship on time but you are correct you do save when booking via a third party Thanks again looking forward to my next cruise
Not sure if it was mentioned, but ship time is in the App, so I always pull up the app follow ship time. Also a good rule of the thumb is that ship time will always be the same of the time of whichever port it sails from, so if it sails from Miami it will be EST, if it's Texas or New Orleans CST, Cali etc WST
I've cruised 4 times and going on my fifth in the summer of 2020, I can vouch for your advice because I've seen it all and these tips are very practical, because I had to learn some of them the hard way.

I have only been on 1 cruise and I’m going on my 2nd in April...I just feel more comfortable booking the excursion through the cruise line.. it’s like a security blanket knowing they will wait if something happened... Royal was my first and Royal will be my 2nd cruise...another thing about rooms... I know I rather be as close to an elevator as possible because I don’t like walking down those skinny hallways lol I just wanna get off the elevator and my room is right there lol so much more convenient for myself lol I sleep with ear buds in anyways listening to the ocean waves or thunder storms so I don’t mind if it’s a little noisier from people because I can’t hear them anyways lol
1 thing I have to say is that if you book through a third party you don't have that security of not being left behind if something was to happen. Through the cruise line they wont leave without you.

Im still new to cruising but i think i want to try to arrive a day before sounds like less stress lol.. and i love the tip yourself and take the gratuities off idea (we did that on my last cruise!). I guess this may be a tip.. when i booked with a cruise agent he asked me did i want to see the port from my balcony or not and he put me on the side of the ship where each morning i could see the port as we arrived. So if thats a preference, cruiser can always ask which side is the port side of the ship

Im still new to cruising but i think i want to try to arrive a day before sounds like less stress lol.. and i love the tip yourself and take the gratuities off idea (we did that on my last cruise!). I guess this may be a tip.. when i booked with a cruise agent he asked me did i want to see the port from my balcony or not and he put me on the side of the ship where each morning i could see the port as we arrived. So if thats a preference, cruiser can always ask which side is the port side of the ship

Thank you for the video! It was very helpful and informative. We are looking to book our first family cruise to the caribbean. We are a family of 4 with two kids (15 & 12). Most likely we will go with an inside cabin due to cost. Prices are per person on double occupancy. Does that mean that we would have to share a room for the 4 of us, or can we have 2 joint rooms for the same cost? Thank you!
