My mom and I watched Gunsmoke all the time S he used to say that he could put his boots under her bed any time. It was truly a beautiful love. Story and also when tv was so different. Mom is gone now but I still watch reruns when ever I can. His eyes are so haunting and she is so beautiful.

This is a very appropriate song for their relationship. The last (I think) Gunsmoke movie shows him riding off, looking back at Kitty standing at the window crying. He had been, for all intents & purpose, been fatally stabbed. Of course, Kitty comes all the way back from New Orleans to see him one last time. But, like always, Doc pulls him back from the brink of death for him to ride off into the wild blue yonder, leaving her once again. I know it's not real, but it certainly broke my heart & changed my perception of the character.
Actually, the final scene to which you refer was featured in the first Gunsmoke movie, "Return to Dodge." And yes, Matt walked (not rode away) for the reason they'd been developing throughout the movie -- he knew, and the encounter with Mannon only confirmed, that the outlaws he'd jailed throughout his career (and/or their friends/family members) would never stop trying to kill him, putting Kitty's life in danger as well. . . Would the writers have eventually gotten Matt & Kitty back together anyway? We'll never know, Amanda Blake died before they started working on the 2nd Gunsmoke movie... [Of course, in my imagination, they did get back together and lived happily ever after in their beloved Dodge City. :)]
Like so many others, I'm sure, a a kid I had a wicked crush on Miss Kitty, Amanda Blake, for years. She seemed to me the most beautiful, the coolest, the most self-possed of women on TV. Years later, hearing her interviewed, I learned that she was all that and more in "real life."

You know being an older person is really interesting that shows like gunsmoke Andy Griffin they really never went off the air because of syndication and it's interesting because you look at what is being showed on TV and Netflix and certain movies I think what we want to do is go back to a simpler time when things weren't so complicated like a man was a man and a woman was a woman and you didn't have to deal with what's going on today I believe that's why these shows are so much popular it lets a little bit of the past I know there was a song 30 40 years ago by Billy Joel and one of the lyrics was the good old days weren't all that good and tomorrow isn't quite as bad as it seems I kind of had to argue with Billy there good old days were pretty good God bless America

Maybe if Amanda had lived, they at some point would have been united. People leaving and / or dying make a happy ending impossible.
