Note: I flipped over to Garuda (KDE) and did not experience the window-resizing issue, and it generally seems to work there too, but for now, pick X11 instead of Wayland. Wayland causes issues with Wine (might be worth testing after the next Nvidia driver update) so that the DAZ viewport flickers and seems to, after some time, not let us select things.

I had Studio working in WINE-staging, but some update broke it. Time to try again.

I'm on Kununtu 2404, with DAZ Studio 4.21 (in Bottles), Blender 4.1, and the most recent release of Diffeomorphic. I have a small problem. Whenever I click the Scan Absolute Paths button, Blender freezes. The only way to unfreeze it has been to restart the system. I suspect it may be that my DAZ contents are on an external drive, but Blender shows the drive and various folders. Any suggestions?

Few things to check first. Any terminal output when you click Scan Absolute Paths? Also, when you say latest Diffeomorphic, do you mean the latest stable built one, or the latest committed to the repo? I mention that because there are a number of things Thomas tends to fix before the former. I just tried it w/ 4.2.0.2193. It warns that it was built for Blender 4.2 (likely he's preparing for that), but Scan Absolute Paths worked fine.
The external drive you mentioned does sound sus, though, especially if it's an old HDD, etc... What I would do is simply test the theory... Double check your Content Directories in Diffeo's Global Options, and if good, try creating some empty directories on your external drive an pointing to those, see if it's just having trouble reading all of whatever's there. If that works, make a copy of them on an internal drive, one at a time. Just don't include everything in the copy if you don't have the space. If that doesn't work, something more fishy going on there.
If it turns out that it's some Blender/linux issue strictly because it's an external drive, I would try creating a symlink (shortcut) to the external drive from your internal drive, then point the content directories to the shortcut.

@@Holonet01 Get this: It just finished! I guess it took a bit of time to read the paths for 4T of content. I will be replacing it soon with an internal drive. That ought to speed things up. Oh, to answer your question, Diffeomorphic 4.1.

@@Holonet01 And thanks for the reply. Even if it did finally finish, that was a long time. You gave me a few lines of inquiry to investigate.

@@nathanboutwell1701 No sweat :). Yeah 4 TB is some serious 0s and 1s there. One thing I neglected to mention in the video that I find very helpful is to use those symlinks just for organizational purposes. All of DAZ's stupid subdirectories get confusing, combined with the wine environment. So, if you've got the content somewhere, you can always keep it in one spot, in your case a hopefully fast spot 😅,

@@Holonet01 You know ... ! This is why you get paid the big bucks. There is no reason for DAZ or Blender to path 50 G8F characters and their related data and textures, much less Victoria 4 junk, when I use about five of them, and six morphing sets, for all my recurring characters. I could create a new contents library (the path already exists, it's just empty) and cut the external loose as a backup. Well, I know what I'm doing next. Thanks for the idea, man!

Very nice. I run Mint too. Though with Lutris these days, I get a message like "DAZ Studio cannot be run with elevated privileges".

Thanks! So, usually a message like that pops up when you run something w/ sudo, I think. I got that when I tried to run a .sh script yesterday, actually. So, it shouldn't need to be run as root. I would just run it as your logged-in user. If it complains, then you might need to set yourself as the owner and/or adequate privileges on the folder (I imagine the folder where you set that WINE environment to). I've noticed this can get a little confusing at times. For example, if I clone a git repo as root, then the user/group default to root, then I need to set them to myself in order to run the scripts as myself :-P.

Try with wine-staging instead of wine package maybe
