THE TRAIN CEMETERY in Modena Piazza Manzoni…

  • A veritable cemetery of old electric railcars lies in the Modena Piazza Manzoni station, located on the FER Modena - Sassuolo line. We are talking about the Ale054 ex SNCB AM54, Ale228 ex SNCB AM54/55 and Ale088. Starting from the Ale054, in 1996 the units 077, 095 and 107 became part of the ATC park in Bologna. The first and third units were overhauled, modified and marked Ale054.201 + Ale054.202, Ale054.203 + Ale054.204, receiving the tricolor Tper livery a few years later. The second complex marked 095 SNCB was instead set aside in Casalecchio for spare parts for the other two trains and finally demolished. In the Modena station another train of the same family is visible in pitiful conditions, marked Ale054.005 + Ale054.004. This complex served the GTT (Gruppo Torinese Trasporti) railways until 2013. With the arrival of the new Coradia Meridian trains, this train was purchased by Tper, used on the Modena - Sassuolo Radici line until 2017 and then set aside a few months later given the entry into service of the ETR350 Flirt and ETR103 Pop. Moving on to the Ale228, in 1992 the AM54.056, 064, 072, 101, 505 (one year later) were purchased by ATCM again for the regional service between Modena and Sassuolo. Unit 101 was used for spare parts for the other railcars, and was then demolished in 2016 together with 505. All the others were then initially painted white, grey, blue and subsequently canary yellow which they still retain today. Speaking instead of the only Ale088 complex present in the bundle, we can say that it was built by Firema in 1984 (together with the Ale088.001 + Le088.001 complex sold to EAV) and then set aside in June 2018 in this plant. Before taking on the marking Ale088.002 + Le088.102, the convoy in question was registered Ale088.002 + Lep088.002. It was capable of reaching a speed of 120 km/h, with a capacity of 176 seats and 224 standing. Furthermore, it is also possible to see a former ATCM rescue wagon marked 20 83 114 2 700-8 Ghkm, used in the event of derailments or blocked axles. In a more hidden area (Formigine side) it is possible to notice a 1937 “F” wagon marked 20 83 114 2 702-4 Gklm now covered by weeds, various branches together with a 1932 Breda electromotive, the origin of which is currently unknown The unit is a P.69 ATCM flatbed wagon with low sides used years ago as a snow plow capable of reaching a maximum speed of 25 km/h.

    ma che peccato, sopratutto al min. 9:04 quella rimorchiata anni 30. ma datela a un museo, piuttosto che farla marcire ingloriosamente. se non ci fosse stato l'ingegner Cantamessa, anche il patrimonio storico fs sarebbe andato perduto. sono di milano e lavoro nell'ambito , ero venuto penso nel 2002 a vedere questo bello e breve tratto di linea, mi ricordo il banco a destra del gigetto, il manovratore di formigine che andava in bicicletta da un capo all'altro della stazione a girare gli scambi. quando la ferrovia aveva la F maiuscola e non era intaccata dalla tecnologia
