SHAMORIE The Small Fish In Big PONDS Stunted Growth

  • Shamorie Ponds just turned 22 years old. This means he still has a chance to stick in the NBA. Big fan of his game. He's a slithery ball handler with great touch around the rim and a huge! heart. During his college days, he was one of the best scorers in his conference and broke many records in his time playing for St John's. He went undrafted, but still managed to make the NBA even if it were just 4 games. Had these 3 things been different, he would still be there. I for one am hoping he gets another shot at making it back. Let's see what happens.

    Shamorie Ponds issue is one that a lot of guys have who are trying to make their way into the league or just trying to stick on a team: What else can you do? Anybody who has watched this guy from high school to college at St. John’s knows that he can score. He is shifty crafty around the rim and when he gets it rolling can fill it up with the best of them. But when your talking about the the highest level, the NBA, there are a bunch of guys who can get a bucket. So what else you got for me? Can you run a team? Can you consistently lock somebody up on defense? Can you be a consistent 3 point shooter from the pg spot? Those are the questions teams are probably wondering. I feel like he has the skill level to play in the league but it’s all about finding the right situation.

      I'm hoping myles makes it. He's buckets all day and can lead a team! Had a great year, sad thing is height. If he had more athleticism I dont think it would be a problem. Markus howard from Marquette is another dude that's actually like 5"7.

    Shamorie was measured at 5'11.5" without shoes... in my opinion he should focus on just being a PG. If he can't, he should stay overseas where it's not that important to have size

    you know who Ponds remembers me of? Darrel Mitchell. He played for LSU in the early 2000s, he had similar size (5'11") and also played shooting guard and point guard. He thrived overseas

    @dc3470 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    i liked ponds' game. u r correct in saying that at his size he should have concentrated a bit more on distributing. but in today's nba, pt guards still need 2 b able to nail that 3. he reminds me of another lefty out of ny named mouse mcfadden, cleveland state guard that averaged 19 or 20 a game. a scorer in a pt guard's body. this just goes to show that the pt guard position is the most competitive, by far. there r millions of boys that r closer to 6 ft tall graduating from high school. on the other hand, there r only thousands of kids 6 ft 8 or taller every year. the kids 6'8 or more don't have to compete with as many kids as the 6 footers. good video

  • @LEGIONOFKNICKSPODCAST

    Would love to see an episode that breaks down how smaller guards can stick in todays nba. Because there are so many guys like Shamorie Ponds who can ball and score but are undersized and cant do else. BUt they are still talented. I mean, as a knicks fan, look at guys like lamar peters who is stuck in the g league despite putting up numbers. If he were 6'3-6'5, he would be a starter in the league. Sad but crazy for these undersized dudes.

    This an early one. He still got space, although limited. If you going this Early Jelly Fam Isaiah Washington has to be on the list. 3 colleges. Appreciate the work..love a lefty who can shoot. I think the days of pure Pgs are done. We see a lot of combos masquerading as PGs now. IMO the new nba reminds me of HS, in the sense of you give it to your best player mainly a wing and they play all over the court, bring the ball up, create offense, whatever the case maybe. Granted you play through your best player, but it's rare in bball I grew up watching if that guy wasn't Magic, rarely the best player also facilities the offense like we now have in (bron, harden, Westbrook, lavine,) just to name a few.

    This is a 10 minute piece on why Ponds is struggling so far to land on a team. There's nothing extraordinarily special about not making an NBA roster other than than the fact that he failed to make a roster. He can play. He's really good, but that's life. No sense in playing Monday morning quarterback and telling the virtual world why Ponds has yet to make a roster. Here's a couple of things to consider; 1) He's still young at 22 so there's hope 2) Thousands of really good players fail to make an NBA roster. Sometimes it timing, fit, or in some cases the kids coming out are not ready for that transition. Enough with the overexplaining on why a kid didn't "make it". It's friggin really, really hard to make the NBA, much less stay in the NBA and make a sustainable career out of it regardless of talent.
