I myself had never heard of the game until I saw Matt McMuscles' recent What Happened episode on the Sega Saturn, where I saw bits and pieces of footage of the game and some music out of it, but not knowing what the name of the game is. That is until I came across a MiSTER FPGA video of Sega Saturn games being tested with the navigator in the thumbnail. That's when I looked up on the game's title and did some research on it.
Even though I'm mostly oriented to what Sega of America called it in their commericals for the Sega Saturn as "PlayThing" (funny name), given my extensive background with the platform since childhood, looking at the game extensively, it looks like this is so cool. I kinda wish this was also on "PlayThing" as well, since Hudson Soft (No this was not made by Taito as you claimed it was. Look at the bottom of the title screen.) did put some Bomberman titles and Bloody Roar on the platform, both of which I had known very well since I had played demos of on those European OPM demo discs way back when.
Even if the Sega Saturn was a powerful but very complex game system whose CPUs made it a nightmare for game developers to make games for it, I'm very impressed by the system's extensive Japanese library compared our very own. The very poor marketing decisions and mishandling as a result of all the pressure from the Japanese Sega towards the western Sega branches are what let the Sega Saturn flop very hard in the west.
I do say though, the Japanese Sega Saturn sure does have some really nice Ecchi-style games on it, and they are bloody brilliant! (Save for Pretty Fighter X.) Something which SCEI barely or never fully allowed on "PlayThing". This is where you can sometimes say: "Saturn [sometimes] does, what PlayStation't".

It's a great translation of a great game! Happy to see you cover this one.
Just some feedback: if you're going to do capture from an emulator, in my opinion you should have it render at the original resolution of the console. Rendering geometry in HD means that people who haven't experienced the original won't know what it really looks like. Personally I think that HD geometry with 240p sprites and textures looks kind of weird anyway.
There's nothing wrong with capturing from emulation if you don't have a good capture solution for your Saturn, but there's tons of videos on retro youtube channels that do this HD rendering without even mentioning it, which I think is producing an unrealistic record of these games for people who never got to experience these consoles for themselves.

    • @VideoGameEsoterica
