    YAY! Another limited colour palette video. This is one of my favourite series you do. I myself often do small series of paintings with only 3 "primaries" when I am trying to get to know new paints. I think the exercise is very educational. It's a little like applying a filter to a photograph, it gives a series of paintings a specific mood.

    Thanks for the video Teoh -- nice work with the limited palette with primaries. And the sketch is incredible. Congrats.

    Wow! So much detail in the sketch!
    I'm surprised you didn't get a more vibrant green from using the lemon yellow and cobalt blue.

    There are quite a few pyrrole pigments, the most ubiquitous being: pr254 (your standard middle red), pr255 (a warmer, orangey red) and pr264 (a dark, cool red).

      That's what I heard too. Paints using these 3 pigments are typically named the same way they name Cad Red variations; Pyrrole Red (PR 254), Pyrrole Red Light (PR255) Pyrrole Pyrrole Deep (PR264).

    Your sky, on the left, above the buildings, using the wet on wet technique, looks like the rain, it's appropriate with this grey weather. Bravo Teoh, your sketch in ink is already incredible ! 👍🏻

    What a beautiful sketch. The design/composition, the very dark of trees contrasted with all the lovely line work, is exquisite. I am always drawn first to composition and contrast, then color. I love this sketch. Also, it seems like no matter what colors you demonstrate, your work always looks good...at least to me.

      I have a vermillion labelled 254 but I swear it must be 255. it has that lovely orange undertone and is exactly right for cut strawberries.

    Nice sketch . I never liked bismuth yellow ! It's not just chalky looking it's also dirty looking . It's better suited to a more opaque medium like acrylics but even there I avoid it . You can always dirty a clean color but you can never make a dirty color clean again .

    • @teohyc

    Great review as always. That doesn't look even remotely like a lemon yellow though, and I'm glad you compared it to a real one so everyone could see the difference. Lovely painting too!

    Is the sizing in the paper repelling the pigment? That looks difficult to manage.

    • @teohyc
      @teohyc  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The paper works fine with watercolour. It's not the best but I still enjoy using it very much.

      It's the watercolour one.

    I noticed that when you always swatch colors the paint avoids(?) the ink, is it a problem? And if so, is it because of the paint or the ink?

    • @annnoyez
      @annnoyez 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I see you are painting wit a large brush little items... i should go to a found 2 or 4

    • @teohyc
      @teohyc  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't really mind not painting within the lines since my style is semi-loose. Painting small items is indeed easier with smaller brushes.

    I don't know about anyone else but I enjoy the way he says Red LOL also so technically you only need a 3 color pallete then

    • @gbenother8755
      @gbenother8755 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I like his pronunciation of many words, but, yeah, RED is good. Also, yes only 3 colors required. This is the most basic "limited palette" possible. Any other colors can be described as "convenience colors" because it is simply more convenient than being forced into mixing every single color. Also, you can extend the range of colors available to you by doubling this pallette to 6 colors - a warm and a cool tone of each of the primaries. As you increase the color count, you get more convenience, but at some point it's really impractical to have a large number of paints, and that is true not just for watercolor, but just about every medium (except maybe coloring books).

      @@gbenother8755 that's what I thought I want to make a small palette with the 3 primary colors and white for my skintone

    Your ink seems to be repelling watercolor

    • @teohyc
      @teohyc  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah, it's weird. But I think there might be issues with parts of the paper surface.
