    Well done! Just flew my V900!! I ALMOST bought two Zeee packs! Saw reviews saying they puffed up immediately after use. So I went with two Admiral 5000 50C’s. They are HUGE. Only using them in my F22 I think is what I decided.

    • @TwoBrosRC
      @TwoBrosRC  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've never seen a Zeee pack puff and I fly like a madman. I had one cell on a 1.3 year old pack (that sat in a field for a month because we couldn't find the plane that went down) go high IR recently and it still wouldn't puff when I ran it below 3v to kill the battery.
      Don't always trust online reviews. The packs are excellent in my experiences. Admiral stuff is way too expensive.

      Haha but hey it’s always an alright landing if the plane makes it to the ground in one piece! It’s tough tho cuz it has the stall speed comparable to a jet. And you are essentially landing on a sidewalk

    • @TwoBrosRC
      @TwoBrosRC  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@cmayrc For sure, that's one of the reasons why I'm not planning to fly it much anymore. The airport I fly at is just not designed with this model in mind. The taxiways work great for full scale aircraft moving slowly to the runway, not so much for high-speed taildraggers.

    I maidened a buddies v1200. I do a lot of 3d, & have a couple of speedy planes & consider myself a decent/intermediate pilot who previously flew everything 20 years ago, & returned back to flying 2ish years ago.
    That being said, i maidened his v1200 on a smart 6s/4000 30c. It was extremely stable in the air, BUT after 5 failed attempts at landings, i made my approach 1/4 mile out, full flaps, & finally got it on the grass. It dont wanna land! 🤷

    • @TwoBrosRC
      @TwoBrosRC  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A quarter mile away almost sounds too close with this model. I'm using 150% flaps and it's still not enough to slow it down. Maybe full span flaps would do it, but then it would run the serious risk of asymmetric stalling at low speeds. It's a handful, man. Every landing has to be perfect if you don't want to scuff it up badly.

    Nice flying as usual, Jon. Brings back memories of our club racing similar aircraft a few years ago. As difficult as it is to get that beast of yours on the ground, I only wished my HH Rare Bear would have had retracts and flaps. Not a fan of hand launching and ground sliding landings, but that’s the way it was. Loved hearing the factory drivetrain designed for 4S make a 8x8 sing at 20,000 rpm. I eventually got to 160 mph but it was a long road of upgrades.

    If you practice flying the plane as slow as it will go without stalling then you will improve your landings. And you must start you approach farther out so you can be lower in altitude by the time you are over the runway. Then you can throttle up a smidge on approach keeping a constant altitude, 4 or 6 feet off the ground, until you are comfortable to slowly cut the throttle for a calm landing.

    • @TwoBrosRC
      @TwoBrosRC  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Right on, that advice applies to almost any model. Unfortunately, this model doesn't do very well at my airport - the pavement just isn't wide enough to fly it here reliably.

    I would recommend turning off the gyro during the high speed passes. At the 3:55 and f5:35 and other points during the flights, the plane was oscillating due to TOO MUCH GAIN. Disabling the gyro just during those passes might give you a mile or 2 per hour more speed. It should also help the servos survive a little longer.

    • @TwoBrosRC
      @TwoBrosRC  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The gyro doesn't need to be turned off during speed passes, it just needs tuned more. The waggling you're seeing is caused by using a throttle to gain mix where the gains are higher at lower throttle settings. Pulling the throttle back too fast results in a wobble at speed.

    This plane is pretty crazy fast. I noticed when you do flat turns you're not using much rudder if any... For edj's and faster planes would you recommend just good thrust in the turn and bank the wings and pull back a bit elevator without rudder?

    • @TwoBrosRC
      @TwoBrosRC  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm definitely not performing flat turns with this model. Coordinated turns aren't really required to get this model to roll without adverse yaw. I use rudder for specific purposes when flying it but definitely don't see much of a point otherwise - it performs really well with minimal rudder input. Sometimes I'll use rudder to kick the nose around where it needs to point, but that's mostly for lower speed maneuvering.
      The answer is really just "it depends on the model" - some models require coordinated turns to avoid adverse yaw, others need minimal rudder to get around a turn.

      @@TwoBrosRC U probably heard me mentioning the Dave Brown scale soft foam wheels before. U can get them on their own website or form MRC.
      Here is what I do if the specific sizes wont fit. its a bit of work. but I think its well worth the effort.
      diameter: put the wheel on a drill bit. Then sand it down to the size you want.
      width: if the dave brown wheel is too thin. I just add a few washers. If its too thick, then put it on a drill bit again. and trim it down with a hobby knife. (the dave brown rim comes in 2 parts. you can trim the connecting section to make the rim thinner)
      wheel hub/hole size: if the hole is too small, then you can just drill it larger to fit the strut. I haven't find the hole to be larger than the struts many times. But if you do, use the stock rim instead.
      Fitting the soft tire on stock rims: some of the E-flite stock rim cant be pull apart. So to get the soft tire on. you might have to cut the tire around a proper size rim. In order to slip them on to the stock rim.
      Freewing stock rims always come in 2 parts. They are just very tight. some WD40 will help to pull them apart,
      note:
      #1 get a pair extra wheels, in case you damage the wheel hub when you put them on drill bits. (they are only $5 or so. might find other applications in the future anyways)
      #2 get a couple sizes. in case your measurement is not 100% accurate.
      #3 wear an eye protection and a mask when you do all the sanding and trimming.

    Damn this thing is a real handful to land. Takeoffs are also an arse twitching moment! I've flown mine maybe about 25times and every flight feels like its last one.
    During the flight your just thinking damn I hope I can land it ! I find the beach the best place as there is so much space to slow it down.
    The landing gear is terrible and I've resorted to belly landing on the grass.
    v900 is a better plane tbh .
    You have the skills though ;))

    Sadly I lost my first one in a dive with a high of 162mph. The wing went into a stutter. The wing broke up and tore itself apart and hit the ground at 150+. Total loss. Motor may be fine (still have to test it), but the esc, battery, and most of the wires ripped as the plane was ripped in 3 pieces. The saddest part. Maiden flight. Handled great until it broke up. (was flown with no gyro active)

    Straight talk: It is not the plane that cannot land. It is you who cannot land the plane because you didn't bother to learn the basics of flight.
    Put simply: If the aircraft has the ability to leap back into the air upon landing, you aren't flying anywhere near the approach or stall speeds.
    Stop blaming the plane and do some midair exercises. This model has PLENTY of power to recover from approach - to - stall simulations.

    I got the E-Flite V-900 and the V-1200. The V-900 has no landing gear, and that's just fast and fine. The V-1200 landing gear is WAY TOO WEAK! I'm a very seasoned RC pilot, but it's almost impossible to land on smooth grass without the gear bending. The V-1200 is a very heavy plane, plus the 6S 4000Mha, it flies excellent, but unusable without a concrete landing strip.

    • @TwoBrosRC
      @TwoBrosRC  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If we ever fly it again we'll probably just cover the model with protective tape to turn it into a belly lander. Pavement landings are just awful with this thing.

    • @EXTRA300s
      @EXTRA300s 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TwoBrosRC You can't make a belly lander out of it. I got a good look, but the servo arm and servo cover will "grab" the ground and it will definitely end up with damage. And I don't know if throwing this thing will be a success, don't do it, I'm afraid ;) It's a heavy beast, and needs some speed at the start. Should someone throw it, I'll bet it will break out to the left, landing full on the left wing tip. Nice videos mate, keep up the good work!

    • @TwoBrosRC
      @TwoBrosRC  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You must be working some black magic for that kind of speed running - because I haven't seen a single person pull off 180+ on a 10x10 prop. Ali Mach needed a 10x12 prop and a dive to get 200 MPH.
