Happy New Year!!! I think everything about the NYD celebration at Taipei 101 was well organized, well planned and executed. I give props to the people to for being organized and calm. I thought everything was well done throughout, and safety measures outstanding in comparison to New York.

I also saw Taipei 101 Fireworks nearby. After that, I walked to Nanjing Sanmin on the Green Line and returned to Taipei Station. When I got on, there were few people on the train, so I could sit down.

Thanks for posting. I live a 20-min walk from 101 on Elephant Mt. with a great view of the fireworks from my balcony. I was just curious what I (didn't) miss. lol As always, the Taipei City government did a great job organizing everything and people here are patient (or resigned) when they know it will be crowded. Love Taipei. And awesome fireworks!

As a Taiwanese, I don't get why people say the crowd is calm, do people start beating each other in NY?
It can get disorderly in New York during large crowds. Often times the transit system does not direct staff to stop people from going onto the platform.
lol as a taiwanese new yorker i can assure you this crowd is CALM.... nyc crowded subways are disgusting and people will literally step over each other

It's correct they stop the escalator from moving, otherwise, it may cause some injury when people are really packed.

The Taipei MRT has improved greatly! I went to the Taipei new year count down in 2012. It was disaster.took us 3 hours to hop on the bus.

Take a look at the railway of the metro. It has a wall (barrier) and when the train stops, it opens. They should do that in NYC and everywhere. You know how many people have fallen to the railway, all because did not payed attention, or a crazy man pushed him? Well, the solution is to put a barrier like that one
They do it in most asian cities like Hong Kong, Kaohsiung and Singapore. It really is a thing that most cities should do
NYC doesn't have the money for that. And the government doesn't care.
It isn’t always feasible to install platform doors especially when you have different rolling stock with different door locations. Also the NYC metro is old. The reason Asian metros are good is because they are new and avoid the pitfalls of older systems
