I still think Kazakhstan is too expensive compared to all other central asian countries (well it's the most expensive country in all central (or all) Asia). Especially for restaurants/coffees where they want to imitate occidental style.. And expensive for local people considering the average/minimum salary. It's crazy high to go out or buy brand clothes for those people.
Only cheap things seem to be some public services and local big market. And I also remember buying very good street ice cream for soooo cheap, less than 0.7$. And taxis also cheap.
But restaurants/rent/phone/internet seem expensive. Especially in Astana and some part in Almaty.

Would love to know your thoughts on Russia and how Kazakhs perceive themselves in the world. Do they think Russia is the main country in the world or America or the UK, And do they feel like Asians or Europeans.

    • @caraganaarborescens6544

I can only answer for myself and for some of my compatriots who share my vision. I consider Russia to be the same dictatorial country as my own, here we are brothers in misfortune from the dark Soviet past. I'm not saying that everything that was in the Soviet Union was bad, but there are enough negative moments, one of them is the terrible bureaucracy and irremovability of power, as you can see: Vladimir Putin (2000-2021) and yes, from 2008 to 2012, Medvedev was president , but Putin really had power, and Nursultan Nazarbayev (1991-2019), here it is also worth considering that Nazarbayev was in power in Soviet times, as well as now, he is the leader of the ruling party and the head of the Security Council, in fact he is the most important person in the country. Personally, I have a negative attitude towards both characters, but I have a very positive attitude towards the Russian people, there are a lot of Russians in Kazakhstan, the Russian language is very widely spoken, there are many mixed marriages, we consider Russians to be our friends, but at the same time we treat their president rather coldly, in fact, like to my. Who do Kazakhs position themselves in the world? Most likely, as a still developing country with a large territory (9th largest by area in the world), a relatively small population (only 19 million people), now the biggest problem in the country is corruption and problems with human rights. As for who we consider to be an authority for ourselves, I personally single out for myself all the countries of Europe, as well as the USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan and South Korea, I want our country to be like them. What about self-identification, it is rather controversial, the Kazakhs themselves are Mongoloid Turks, and indeed there are more such Kazakhs outwardly, but there are also Kazakhs with European facial features, we belong to the South Siberian race, one might say transitional between Europeans and Asians with a slight bias in Asia, what about culture, then there is also pluralism, traditions and life are more Asian, while cinema, books, TV shows, TV shows and media space are all European (one might say American). Personally, despite the geographic location of Kazakhstan (only 10% of the territory is in Europe), I consider Kazakhstan to be more of a European country than an Asian one, for example, a very large trade turnover with the European Union, also since 2018 Kazakhstan has been participating in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest, an application for participation in an adult competition The Eurovision Song Contest is still being considered, our players participate in the European Football Championships (only they, unfortunately, cannot pass the qualifying stages to play there, but that's another story), most people are inclined towards European culture: clothes, habits, and so on, I really want to join NATO (only Russia, China and the same Iran, with which we border across the Caspian Sea will not like it), I also want to join the European Union and integrate more into the European space.
