try downloading midi packs from good prods and understand how they made them what chords work with each other what melody patterns are good , put those midi in a ghost channel and try to make your own melody and follow maybe the same notes used in the top melody to make your own thing , tht's how i got better without really deep understanding of music theory

Usually just follow the trends of what most rappers are looking for. A lot of the newer guys like yeat stay around 140. A few years back most were sticking around 160. It changes with the trend.
