Wow fantastic to see one in such good condition still, My first computer was a Sharp MZ-80K had to load Basic first SP-5025 then had a few games Asteriods and Tombs of Karnak. Thank you for keeping the dream alive.
I had no idea this model existed. I had the MZ80A, and this C looks to be midway between the K and A models. The 'A' was my first computer, inspired by a friend's father having a Commodore 'PET', although they weren't officially called PET in Britain.
There also exists a mini console version of the MZ-80C computer. It is called the PasocomMini MZ-80C and it was released by Kirby developer HAL Laboratory in late 2017.
You sir are a genius. I literally just got it to work by playing with panning on the .wave file. Even though it’s a mono track I needed to pan it hard right and it was able to load software in that configuration. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.
Great video on this retro computer! I don’t have any experience with computers that have tape drives either. The first computer that I ever used was the Apple IIe in elementary school.
That's a sexy looking machine! Until your video, I had never heard of it. Also, I agree with you, the Sharp MZ-80C reminds me of a Commodore PET 2001 with how it opens, built-in tape drive, etc.
The manual is in Japanese, but I guess I could try using the fancy translation software that exists now. I wouldn’t know what I was doing with the schematic. Both great ideas though.
Would definitely be awesome to see you rebuild your old Mac wall and room like you had featured in the one Lo-Fi Saint Louis video. I'm really looking forward to it if you have any intentions of that at all.
I actually have the iMac wall setup in another part of the house. I haven't had a reason to feature it in a video yet, but I'm sure I will eventually. You can sort of see it in the background of this shot twitter.com/jeremysretrobar/status/1360676479764475907?s=21
A beautiful computer indeed! At first I thought that the tape heads might need checking/cleaning/replacing (if there's any similarity to the mechanism in cassette tape players), but I really don't know anything about tape-based computers.
That’s a good thought. I did clean them to the best of my ability. I’d love to know where the audio wires are so that maybe I could splice a 1/8” jack into the machine and just plug the iPhone in directly. Without schematics I can’t do that mod, if it’s even possible.
Probably needs to be mono? Try recording the tracks on to a cassette then using the actual tape deck. Maybe, you can pull the cable out one click from your phone so it'll, in theory, play in mono? I feel like your phone is playing in way the machine doesn't like. Needs to be 2400 baud exactly and your phone isn't playing it like that?

mz-80c/k/k2/k2e/1200 are each compatible completery.
I seen on another TH-camr's channel where he had a problem using stereo playback on a tape drive, but had no problem with single channel playback.
Ohhh interesting. I didn’t even think of that, but it makes a lot of sense.

I hope you saw the follow up where I got the tape drive working.
@@JeremysRetroBar No, but I will! Thanks!

Yeah it’s very PET like. I can’t wait to get it actually working.
Have you tried looking online for a manual or schematic to troubleshoot?

I see now you solved it. Nice.
I appreciate the solution anyway. It is correct.
