Nice to put a historical perspective on the man I HAVE FOLLOWED IN HIS MUSIC -first with Nickel Creek , Solo and the wonderful Punch Brothers .... Chris is a great at singing of course as well. Favorite song for me - " LIGHTHOUSE'S TALE " ..... God bless you all, jj
Probably the best mandolin player ever. No doubt a prodigy. At this age he’s better than 95% of pros that have been playing twice the number of years he is at this time. His album they are talking about is insanely bind blowing. You could tell he was going to be a beast
Oh he has had the chops for a long time. Doesn’t surprise me studio guys don’t want to play with him. He’s above that pay grade and as of today the best in the world.
That was really enjoyable, and great playing! He wasn't 13, though, must've been 14 or more likely 15 (if the 1996 broadcast date is right). He was born in Feb 1981 (according to Wikipedia and an interview sourced there). The album shown, "Leading Off" did come out when he was 13, though.

Thanks for posting. Delightful!!
His head bobbin' is still under construction at this point, but he's definitely got the chops.

John Moore who is a fantastic mandolin player, used to teach Chris.
I thought that was Ron Burgondy at first.
I was waiting for him to pull out some jazz flute.
Chris Thile rocks.
Amazing interview! Phenomenal talent
This is amazing.
Trying to explain things like triplets to non-musicians does not get easier with age.

He talked about Mark O’Connor read what O’connors comment in the video on his channel called In the Cluster Blues. Chris Thile destroys the mandolin.
Even Billy strings who is a great flatpicker admitted on the Theo Vonn podcast that when they put him with Chris”I don’t belong playing with him”.
The band was nervous mainly because you don't pick a banjo with a pick!
Not in bluegrass you don't. I sure don't.
That’s not a banjo. Thats one of them there guitarjo’s. I think I just made that name up. But it’s a six string nonetheless.
@@PauliGGuit-anjo. Or banj-tar
Thank God, he wasn’t sent to public school, we would’ve never seen him ever again
what a strange awkward interview
Not even remotely awkward
