As an interior designer of many years, may I suggest a mix of sofas & chairs. Since you are in France in the land of brocantes, I would expect to see French chairs. A downside of sofas is that no one really wants to sit in the center sears especially next to people they don’t know. Also older people need arms to easily get out of upholstered seating. I would never choose a center seat on a sofa. I also think all the same sofas are a little repetitive and uncreative. You can use some of those elsewhere and add chairs. You are doing a great job on the chateau. Keep up the good work and make a few tweaks to the salon furniture. I know you are thinking all the guests will be in the salon at once, but I don’t think that will be the case. Some guests will choose to relax in their rooms to nap or read a book instead of in the salon that requires chatting.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts Susan. It might just be my family, but when we’re all in one place, we like to congregate in one room and we don’t mind sitting next to one another on sofas. I appreciate strangers may feel a little more uncomfortable doing so, but the main point of that section of the video was to provide seating for large families or events of people who book out the entire chateau. When we have strangers just using the chateau as a b&b, it’s likely the chairs will be rearranged into different spaces. Brocantes are good and all, but the chances of finding good quality things that are going to last with lots of use is extremely rare, and we just don’t have time to wait to collect these things. Plus, if you buy from brocantes and trocs, it’s most likely that they will need to be reupholstered. Thus creating more work, taking more time and costing a lot more money. Edit* not to mention finding chairs / sofas that match each other and the rooms ambiance. Appreciate you taking the time to comment, but wanted to reiterate the point we tried to make within the video.
Love your input. The furniture in the brocantes are very good quality. Normally solid wood which most people can't afford these days. All other chateau owners on You Tube buy all their furniture from Brocantes or auctions.
MmmmHmmm. CdB, I agree about your request for thoughtful feedback. The tone in the comment above was reductive and uncreative. The same points could have been made in a gentler way. For instance, it was completely unnecessary to add "...I would never choose a center seat on a sofa..." and "... no one really wants to sit in the center sears (sic) especially next to people they don’t know...". That is just plain rude. Why not just suggest that in their experience, the centre seats are often not used??? That would've made the point sufficiently. Throwing in one unimaginative, unsupported, weak complement in a paragraph of criticism does not balance the overall tone, @susanbradford4543. Tsk. ChateaudeBruges, in addition to the limitations you mentioned in your response about brocantes, it should be note that they are often rife with bedbugs and wood worm. Bringing that home could be a disastrous and inadvertent outcome for a guesthouse under renovation. It pays to be wary. I hope the harsher comments you get won't deter you from documenting and sharing your journey on TH-cam. Some of us have been following you from the beginning and really enjoy your cheerful, hardworking ethic. Bravo on how much you have accomplished!!!
@@jlebo001Thnakyou so much! What a lovely supportive message to have received this morning. We get that everyone has different tastes and different ways of sharing their opinions. You both work so well together! If you can manage your way through a renovation of an entire chateau, your marriage should be a breeze! The new paint colors are great.....the creamy trim color is perfect and will go with all the other splashes of color that will come to live in this room! Carry on!

Nice that you were conscientious enough to think of your viewers, even tho I have to RME at times at the things they say/worry about. lol? The seating plan ideas were a nice touch! I truly love your energy, creativity and sense of humor. Watching you turn this lovely place into an even lovelier BNB has been a joy. Can I please offer you one piece of advice: Stick to your guns. You aren't required to reply to every comment so try not to take them personally. You're all so kind-hearted that this might be difficult but try. Sending you a dose of patience and hugs!
what you are doing isn't what it's all about. It is having fun watching your regular days and what you are doing. I have never done a reno before so it's all fun.
It’s your house, so you get to decide the colour. Ignore others. They can paint their house the colour they want. And you don’t need to apologize over the furniture. Again, your house, your choice. Best of luck from Canada.

I can’t agree on curtains for my bedroom with the hubby and have been making do with cheap ones for years, yes years, so you’re doing a brilliant job.
Wow I love the white it makes a huge difference in the height of the room and really shows off just how beautiful the room is. I can't wait to see the whole finished room! Bravo!!!
Danielle, I just have to say ... your hair is so healthy and shiny and your complexion in the last scene looked flawless. You are a beautiful young lady. Jake, it is funny how we all get tongue tied and make up our own words.
I figured that was what you had in mind. I have been paying close attention to all the proposals, ideas, possibilities..., you have talked about from the beginning. :)
As an Interior Designer one of the biggest problems I see with your seating in the salon is the lack of variety in seating types. Meaning you should be using chairs, ottomans, benches, chaises, etc. along with sofa seating. No amount of throws and pillows will fix the problem of too many sofas of the exact same fabric and exact same style. To create an interesting and inviting room you need variety..."the spice of life!" I would suggest a U configuration in front of the fireplace using (2) of your 4-seater sofas facing each other and 2 chairs at the top of the U facing the fireplace. Then I would use (2) sofas in an L configuration in the corner of the room as you enter the room looking left (or bottom right corner of your drawing). Then floating in the remaining open floor space I would center a game table with 4 chairs around it. (Having chairs available make it possible for your guests to move them and bring them into personal conversations they may be having.) Along the wall opposite the fireplace wall (bottom left side of your drawing) would be a perfect spot for a beautiful tall wooden hutch type piece of furniture to serve drinks or hors d'oeuvres from. It could also store napkins, plates, games or whatever you need. Just my 2 cents. Love following you and am wishing you all the best. You are a very sincere group of friends and I hope you will be very successful in your venture:). So exciting! Last thing I promise:). Don't use identical coffee tables, having the sofas identical is enough matchy, matchy for the room. And I say that with the most kindness.
Really appreciate you taking the time to send this message Po! We’re trying to take as much advice on board as possible. We hope you love the finished product in the room when it’s all done and dusted 🥰🥰❤️

Just started following you two and I LOVE what you are doing to the Chateau and the how's and why's. The Chandalear in the dining room is going to shine even more with the fresh white ceiling. only one suggestion: on the conversation pod 3 design, if you can fit in a narrow console table between the two 3-seater sofas (or two narrow end tables if they fit on either side. A small narrow console would be just a little space between back to back parties (and allow for someone to maybe set a glass down if talking to someone behind them). Looking forward to all your progress next week. Cheers!!
Don't know if it's my screen or my mind but I see butter yellow and I think that's rather appropriate for a dining room, just my opinion, another is that I don't own this chateau, any decisions regarding this chateaux in any way belong to the owner(s) 😊 In the words of Bambi's friend Thumper, if ya can't say nuffin nice, don't say nuffin at all 😁🥰
