Honda Brio 1.2 i-VTEC MT: Why this should be your next PROJECT CAR! | AutoCulture

  • The Honda Brio was a cute little hatchback introduced back in 2011 to take on cars like Hyundai i10, Suzuki Swift etc. The Honda Brio unfortunately never caught on due to its lack of features, high pricing and non-existent bootspace. But now, in 2022, it is slowly catching on in the eyes of enthusiasts to being one of the best project cars ever. The small and compact dimension give it great handling along with a responsive steering and amazing 5-Speed Manual. The tuning capabilities for the Honda Brio are endless! Want to know what they are? Watch the video to find out!

I'm driving it every day to my work. I go for long rides with my friends in it. I make those wheels rotate like hell, and the beautiful sound it makes whenever I hit the RPM..! Man, Trust me I am having lots of fun with my 2012 BRIO i-Vtec MT. It's been 10 years since we had it with us. Even today, It has the same performance, same braking ability, and literally ZERO problems. This thing is something else. I am not selling this car.

We have the Brio automatic (the new shape one 2017 onwards) and the Jazz CVT (the paddleshifter one). Both are very hassle free vehicles. The Brio is sharp, clean, and crisp and a lovely city hatchback. Only problem is the 8 kmpl fuel efficiency in city running. Nothing over 11 on the highway. Tiny fuel tank too. 27 litres I think. The Jazz is very very underpowered and highway drives can be very slow and taxing. Comfortable car though. I also had the 2003 1.5 Honda City with a raceconcepts intake and exhaust swap etc. Lots of fun. Sold it for a BMW 320i. I love all these cars :)

I have been driving a manual one since 7 years and not once has the FE dropped below 11 in Pune City and daily commute in stop-go traffic and on highways, depending on roads and speeds, I have always got been between 17 and 22kmpl.

Let me tell you one thing from a "Bonestock" 5 year experience of the BRIO. Very Very poor Kmpl return. I used to get 7kmpl in the city. Hoon it and you'll get a 5er! But that said, it Revs like a true Honda! And as well took whatever i threw at it. few PROs and CONs:
    PROs:
    1. Kerbweight & Wheelbase
    2. Very good A/C Blower. Will knock you away even at single speed!
    2. Good storage areas
    3. Very good maneuverability
    4. Short gear throws
    5. Extremely light streering wheel (For city) and picks up good weight over high speeds
    6. Very good L12B NA Engine, lasts longer as well.
    CONs:
    1. The car tends to float at speeds over 110kmph
    2. Poor Build quality (Both Interior and Exterior)
    2. Bad Resale value
    3. Poor Fuel efficiency (Didn't go over 10kmpl on highways despite light foot)
    4. Lacks Features
    5. Expensive maintenance
    6. Lacks boot space
    7. Decent comfort but poor under thigh support

I own and drive a Honda Brio (heavy-footed, always) for the last 7 years now and have never received FE less than 10, worst being 9...
Highway economies I have seen as high as 19.8 (with AC on, ECON light active, speeds ranging between 80 to 110, occasional 120s)
On Highways with AC off in winters, I have witnessed 21kmpl too (same speeds as mentioned above)...

200 HP!! You are then destroying the Reliability, Balance and safety of that Engine, and then that HP might be not practical for a "Project Car".What do you think a JDM or what this is in India
Honda L12 is all about the economy and frugality.L12 has got outdated now.
I don't trust that turbo, you need something like the GT100R Turbo" package" for a car like Brio...

It's a drag and pure fun built i think the goal was to test the car to the max, they did later do another Brio with a k20type r engine
