Yeah, it just goes to show how even the most successful investors can have both big wins and significant losses. The Kirkland Lake move was genius, but what do you think went wrong with Pure Gold?
It could have been due to a number of factors timing, mismanagement, or even macroeconomic conditions affecting gold prices. But it does highlight how risky single-stock bets can be, even in industries like mining, which Sprott knows very well
Someone like Eric Sprott probably takes more calculated risks because he can afford to, but for most of us, a bit of extra guidance can prevent massive losses
Yeah, it’s not just about preventing losses, it’s about managing risk effectively. In Sprott’s case, the billion-dollar gain in Kirkland Lake outweighed the Pure Gold loss, but that’s not the situation most retail investors are in. A CFA could be critical in balancing those risks

Joined Sprott by investing 80 K in 2016.I felt it was a solid bottom and now with miners we are in retirement and building a trust for dogs and cats. When we reach our goals I will name a dog " Sprott " and use this money to save live when added to our estate.
It's wonderful to hear about your investment journey with Sprott and your plans for retirement, as well as the thoughtful initiative of building a trust for dogs and cats. Your commitment to saving lives is commendable. As you work towards reaching your financial goals, it may be beneficial to consult with a financial advisor. They can help ensure that your investments align with your objectives, particularly as you prepare to establish the trust and manage your estate effectively.

Eric's term "stealing value" really means seeing huge investment return opportunity, and its so obvious that it seems like stealing. Although he's not a geologist, he connect mining data to financial returns quicker.

2000 and 2008 were of course notable interim financial crashes but we can anticipate that the next will be secular in nature (e.g. 30's and 70's) because central banks drove short rates to zero for years and they won't be able to foment an even more extreme financial mania by driving short rates to new nominal lows this time. They will of course resort to massive currency debasement but it will feed through to price inflation rather than being occupied by financial speculation. Four decades of monetary and fiscal distortion are going to be wrung from global financial markets via price inflation. Tangible assets offer refuge, particularly ultra liquid tangibles (i.e. precious metals). Ultimately Eric will be proven right yet again, in a very big way.
My primary reason for expecting metal prices (spec. Gold) to rise is because the Federal Reserve is caught between a rock and a hard place right now. They’re facing three major economic challenges at the same time. Servicing the interest on the US National Debt, avoiding a recession, or face an adverse reaction from the public because of hyperinflation. Since the Fed has traditionally been insulted and protected by Congress, I think the Fed may well be forced to choose between (for them) the lesser of of the three evils; and, service the debt, avoid a recession (and the high unemployment that would follow), lower interest rates, and put the solution on the backs of the middle class and service the national debt through hyperinflation and a devaluation of the dollar in terms of purchasing power. I remember 1972 when I was living off base in Germany. In one night, my rent (payed in German Marks) doubled from $400/months to $800/month. We were payed in dollars but our rent had to be paid in Marks. Overnight the Mark went from 4 DM/1$ to 2 DM/$1 and the cost of everything paid for in Deutche Marks doubled in dollar costs. And then gas rationing soon followed.
A year or so ago, I had thoughts of selling some gold bullion and buying gold mining shares. Looking back, I'm glad I didn't. In the last year, gold has gone up 32% but shares in DeGray Mining (an Australian miner with similar prospects to Freegold) have gone up 15%. Gold Road shares which I own has performed even worse. Mining shares never seem to go up until they are actually producing and even then, it is not certain.
Thanks for the comments! Like any investment it is very important to do your homework. Many gold stocks are up 50% or more but many are flat on the year.
Interesting that Eric lost money with Pure Gold (as did a LOT of people). I wonder if he bought into WRLG - as to me… those crooks jumped in and scooped up the assets. Now, all of a sudden it is all working out! I will probably make back my losses, but it makes me wonder about backroom deals.

Thanks for the comment/question. I can't speak for Eric but my first thought is no. Why go to Romania when you can invest in Canada which has a vibrant mining industry. Mining is fraught with risks so why complicate it by going to countries which don't respect mining and the rule of law ie. Burkina Faso or Panama
@BloorStreetCapital Yes, that makes sense. Well, I think I will invest a small portion in ESM just because it is $1 USD/Oz, and they are just waiting on the European CRMA to designate this project as strategic. Wish me luck! 😅
