This is Elvis doing just what he feels like and is very similar to his jam sessions where he was always the last to leave. He loved to jam and he loved singing gospel for hours with whoever would stay with him. What a joy that must have been. When my daughter left for college in 1997, she took this recording and her roommates loved it, too; even the Nick Cave and Morrissey fans. Love your reaction and all of the replays!❤❤❤

Elvis put on more voices during recordings, as you will see later. He was a real comedian, and more people should have his humor today instead of being so serious all the time. Thanks for the great reaction Seph and have a good day!

That's Elvis being Elvis...funny. He was very funny and had a keen sense of humor as well as a great voice! In the early years and before he got sad he would fool around alot during rehesals and while recording. Don't know that it sounds like a Beatle song. Just remember Elvis did it first. ❤

Elvis recorded Tomorrow Is A Long Time in 5 minutes and 23 seconds a year before this song.
Black women are known for their wigs, or as the lyrics go "wig hats." It's an R&B song from that era.

The trend took a while to gain traction since human hair was expensive and needed to be cleaned and styled at a hair salon, but by 1962 half-a-million women owned wigs. Synthetic options were also introduced during the 1960s, as a cheaper and low-maintenance alternative to human hair.

Elvis's recording career was predicated on change-ups vocally. When asked about his amazing performance on That's Alright Mama, Elvis said he never sang like that before in his life. In no way does this remind me of the Beatles. This is down and dirty blues which they never did as potently as this.

That line about "I was out chopping cotton" was from Bobbie Gentry's "Ode to Billie Joe" She mentions Tupelo in the song and Elvis was bound to catch a mention of his birthplace in a big hit. The high pitched voice must have been because she was a female singer. Google tells me "I feel fine" was released in November '64 and Tommy Tucker penned this song earlier the same year so I doubt there was anything more than coincidence, there. You may want to listen to "Ode to Billie Joe". It's a haunting bluesy song.

According to Jorgensen ““The tension over publishing was coming out into the open. Loud enough for Freddy to hear, Bob Moore playfully remarked that he’d heard Lamar Fike had missed a chance to pick up the rights on Bobbie Gentry’s enormous hit, “Ode To Billy Joe.” Pressing the point, Harold Bradley hit the opening lick of Gentry’s song, and Elvis chimed in with his best Bobbie Gentry voice: “Well I was out choppin’ cotton, and my brother was baling hay,” before cheerfully launching into what became the master of “Hi-Heel Sneakers.”

Elvis really was a gifted musician. After a number of false starts, Take 5 is the first complete take, Take 6 is another false start, and this take, Take 7 becomes the master. How many other singers could blow a song out of the water in just TWO full takes??

This is the unedited master Seph first issued on the 1960's essential studio compilation as seen on the screen album in the video. The original release is 2.48 and is excellent.. Just think the last 4 songs you have reacted to today which seemingly have been enjoyed by yourself to various degrees would have been missed if you had listened to many here, plus the How Great Thou Art tracks and I'll Remember You etc. with more to come.

So my internet's been wonky lately so I gotta make this quick.
    The following is from Wiki:
"Hi-Heel Sneakers" (often also spelled "High Heel Sneakers") is a blues song written and recorded by Tommy Tucker in 1963. Blues writer Mary Katherine Aldin describes it as an uptempo twelve-bar blues, with "a spare, lilting musical framework", and a strong vocal. The song's rhythmic approach has also been compared to that of Jimmy Reed. Tucker's lyrics recall the time he spent as a Golden Gloves boxer in the 1950s.
The song came out of Tucker's association with producer Herb Abramson, who was a co-founder of Atlantic Records. Abramson operated A-1 Sound Studios in New York, where many popular R&B artists recorded; he leased Tucker's recording to Checker Records, which released it as a single in 1964.
Although writers cite a 1963 recording date, there is conflicting information about the studio location. Aldrin puts it in Chicago, while the Blues Foundation locates it in New York City. The song's distinctive guitar parts are provided by Dean Young. Writing in Encyclopedia of the Blues, Gene Tomko notes the similarity to the introduction and shuffle beat of the popular Jimmy Reed song "Big Boss Man".
Abramson leased Tucker's song to Checker Records and in 1964 it was released as a single, backed with "Don't Want 'Cha (Watcha Gonna Do)". It entered Billboard Hot 100 on February 8, 1964, where the single reached number eleven during an 11-week stay (its R&B chart was suspended at the time). In the UK, it reached number 23.
In 2017, the song was inducted into the Blues Foundation Blues Hall of Fame as a "classic of blues recording". In its induction statement, the Blues Foundation noted that "Hi-Heel Sneakers" was the "last blues record from the mighty Chess Records [Checker subsidiary] catalogue to hit No. 1 on the charts" and its popularity as a performance number.
Numerous musicians have recorded "Hi-Heel Sneakers" - Aldin notes the song "has the distinction of having been recorded by such unlikely musical bedfellows as Johnny Rivers, Elvis Presley, Ramsey Lewis, Jose Feliciano, Chuck Berry, the Chambers Brothers, Jerry Lee Lewis, David Cassidy and Boots Randolph, to name but a few." Tomko explains its influence:
This now-familiar rhythmic chord progression of accenting the beat a la "Hi-Heel Sneakers" was in turn incorporated into many cover versions of "Big Boss Man," and ironically influenced how the Jimmy Reed standard is typically played today.
Finally, "Big Boss Man" was written by Jimmy Reed, another bluesman, and considered by many, the most influential of all time.
Unfortunately, he did not have a happy ending to his life.
I remember reading that he had some kind of form of early on- set dementia (but it might as well have been due to a Traumatic Brain Injury he had suffered from his boxing days; back then boxing was different, it was more brutal. And too they had no real medical awareness back then of head/ brain trauma.
Do we know this for sure? No. Though I will say I'm convinced that Muhummad Ali developed Parkinson's because he took a lot of hits to his face and head. Doctors now know that ONE of the contributing factors of Parkinson's is TBI. They still cannot say with 100% certainty what causes a person to develop PD but they do think PD isn't a 100% generic disease. They now recognize that environmental factors and severe physical trauma to he head most likely factor into the cause.)
Too I recall reading that Jimmy Reed became an alcoholic. I am not judging. Not at all. He had it tough towards the end.
But one bright spot was his wife. She too was a musician and sometimes sang with him on recordings.
I found a rare recording online of Jimmy Reed recording in- studio hid song "Baby What You Want Me To Do" and you can hear his wife helping him remember the lyrics.
Also, on a lighter note: Tommy Tucker meant the "big wig hat" to be a joke.; he meant it to be funny. If you were an African- American guy or lady you got the joke.
African- American ladies back then wore wigs. Not all did, keep in mind. But some of them did.
Anyway Tommy Tucker along with Bill Davis went to write an answer song to this titled "Slip- In Mules (No Hi- Heel Sneakers) and it was recorded by Sugar Pie Desanto (a lady singer).
The answer song is written in the same style as "Hi- Heel Sneakers" and is also written in the "talking back" narrative of the lady.
And that's it! That's all I've got Seph & every one!
No, wait. It's not. I lied. There is a "small" recording that Elvis did of "Hi- Heel Sneakers". It's the shorter version and it's also different from this extended version. And it's actually the "small" version that appeared on the B- side of "Guitar Man". Just FYI.
And I saw you Seph put up your dukes 😂
    FUN & FANTASTIC REACTION 🙌💃🙌💃🙌💃🙌💃
THANK YOU SO MUCH SEPH 💖💐
    Peace ✌, light 🌞, love 💖, & blessings 🙏 to you & yours & to one & all here as well 💕
