Yes, I would definitely consider this a Folk Song, as they are by nature, Story Telling Songs 🎵. I like this the song, but wouldn't go looking for it. ❤
You like some songs better than I do and I like some songs better than you do (like this one). It's always fun to hear your perspective. The "whipped pup" thing gets filtered in my mind by the times where it sounds less dire for the big guy. I'd call it a folk song and kind of '60's in tone. I think Elvis would like it because of it's message that love it the most powerful force.
I understand you completely Seph and respect you for it. Just as a comment in 'D' I notice amongst others, you have by common EP fan consent over the years songs that they would put in at their absolute lowest 'B' like King Creole, Mystery Train, His Latest Flame, Little Sister, Reconsider Baby, Baby I Don't Care, Mean Woman Blues etc. Just saying 🙂
After reading all the comments, I think people calling this gospel are mistaken. It is a LOVE song. There is nothing religious in it at all. The song is very eclectic, I hear some Christmas in it, but tinges of gospel style. It is hard to pin down the style. It certainly is different. I find it very catchy, almost a brain worm. I think it comes closest to folk.
I agree, this one is very odd sounding. That walking bass line has a very jaunty feel. To my ears I hear somewhat of a novelty country song. I loved The Muppet Show as a very young child. My mom would bring a small portable TV into my bedroom to watch it, much like the ones you noted in the Depeche Mode "See You" official video. I distinctly remember one occasion when I fell asleep just prior to The Muppet Show airing and woke up as the closing credits were running. I was so upset and complained to my poor mother that she had not woken me up! (0:30) I loved your description of the power of love, its disruptive effects, and life enhancing benefits. Big guys, small guys, we're all completely captured by its seduction. There's a Pet Shop Boys song lyric that always hits home with respect to this. "Just when you least expect it. Just what you least expect." That hidden message in your Elvis list, "I love all you guys by the way," was super sweet and clever. (6:20) We all love you as well, Seph! ❤ Nice to see your right arm getting a bit more mobile at the very end with the full banger gesture.
That half banger bit at the end made me LOL! And yes I commented the same about Seph's "hidden message". He could turn that into something. Type out a hidden message every now and then (not every time but at random) and see who gets and who doesn't. Just as something fun to do I think. No offerings of prizes or shout outs (I don't like it when other YT'ers do that, offer up a shout out or whatever for doing something or being first. It comes off as inauthentic to me and more than a little pandering to the masses in an effort to drive up your channel's analytics.) And how did you like Seph's impression of Elvis's looowww baritone voice? I thought it was a really good vocal impression myself. It also brought on 🎶Memories🎶 of when my sister and I used to play 'Barbie' and I was always Ken because according to my sister I could do a 'Ken' voice better than her. Well duh. I'm half a decade older than her. And also: I was pretty good at mimicry. I can do a SPOT on impression of Ratigan from "The Great Mouse Detective" and I can do a SPOT ON impression of a male peacock's mating cry. It kind of sounds like: Harr- rarr- arr- rarr- arr..." If that makes sense. I heard it once on tv and I mimicked the cry and my Mom was like: "Really good Sammy!" So for weeks afterwards my Mom would be like, "Hey, do the peacock cry." Then to her friend or whomever: "She does a great peacock impression. Go on, do it." Me: "Mawwwaaammm..." * in a semi- whiny voice * I can also mimic cats and horses and cows really well. My dog's howl is just alright though 😅 And this is something that is definitely *not* anything to brag about.
@@sammy_the_uncool2702 It's interesting you mention the low voice mimicry, because when I heard him do that I immediately thought, "Did he just slow the playback for that bit?" I'm still unsure after a couple viewings. Although this song only got a "half banger" score, Seph did fortunately manage a "full banger" arm gesture. Clearly his arm is improving and that has got to be very welcome.
@@balovett I think Seph was just demonstrating how a guy can get his speaking voice to go lower in pitch using his own voice as a sound effect example. Because Seph says it one point, "... that really looowww in his diaphragm..." While creating that lower in pitch sound effect with his own voice. If any of that makes sense. And yes I noticed that Seph lifted his right arm in the "half- banger" gesture at the end as well. Hopefully that means Seph is on the mend 🙏
Brad is completely right Sammy, that is edited to make my voice an octave lower then what i could possibly do. I can go higher then i can go lower haha 😂
Seph, this is a type of gospel song. Not a folk song. It was wrote by Jerry Reed the man who wrote, Guitar Man, US Male and others. It does not mention God or Christ-but the spirit of God/Christ is love. IF you are not a super religious this will mean very little to you. But to us who do love gospel music it is a great great song to listen to on a car ride just enjoying a nice day. Its a great song to listen to when you are down or have been taken advantage of by someone and you need to be reminded "Not everyone takes advantage of you"
I agree with your rant. Do you think you may change some of your rankings over time? For instance, let's take your D rankings. You listed a lot of songs that in my estimation belong in a much higher slot. Got A Lot Of Living To Do, hardheaded Woman, I Will Be Home Again, Grass Won't Pay No Mind, Wearing That Loved On Look --That's a high B, Blue Hawaii and Hawaiian Wedding Song are certainly High B. You'll Think Of Me, A Little Bit Of Green, I'm Moving On and I Beg Of You, I Feel That I've Known You Forever are B quality songs. Only The Strong Survive, True Love Travels On A Gravel Road, Power Of My Love Are certainly at least high B. Sylvia and Heart Of Rome are A quality.
It's definitely a country song. It's similar to the song "16 Tons" by Tennessee Ernie Ford: th-cam.com/video/RRh0QiXyZSk/w-d-xo.html Elvis singing bass; love it.
Maybe once i've heard all their songs. The only reason i stopped was because of the threats i was getting and negative comments on a daily basis from people who disagreed with my rankings :(((
Seph: Gospel by Jerry Reed. The ONLY Elvis song, where I prefer the original. I heard Jerry Reed’s version first. Please give his a listen. th-cam.com/video/Rumn5cXdl7g/w-d-xo.htmlsi=GrMwtkARZnrSpdgN I totally understand the ranking.
He has said multiple times that Elvis voice is never in question. I don't see a way to rate his voice other than what it is - the very best - on 99.999% of all his performances. I think Seph totally agrees.
If we were just ranking Elvis songs based purely of his voice alone. Every single song he ever sang would be in my S rank. So i decided very early on that ranking these songs off his voice is just silly. That's why i say that i'm ranking the *songs* not *The Elvis* . The lyrics, tune and soul is what i get critical about.

Its a great song to listen to when you are down or have been taken advantage of by someone and you need to be reminded "Not everyone takes advantage of you"
This is a brilliant version of a great song by ELVIS has to be in your A+ ranking for a song?
Prefer to hear the version released in Elvis' lifetime with the overdubs, strings and all! Johnny Cash had a big hit with this
That's why it sounded a bit different. Thanks.
Johnny Cash song - Elvis doing Johnny Cash
It's June....🤔did I miss the vote?
It's definitely a country song. It's similar to the song "16 Tons" by Tennessee Ernie Ford: th-cam.com/video/RRh0QiXyZSk/w-d-xo.html Elvis singing bass; love it.
Well I believe it's written by Jerry Reed, so..... Kinda country/folksy
Agree with you steph ,but i think you ranked it to high.
Too bad with your DM ranking list 😢
Will you revive it someday, maybe?
Maybe once i've heard all their songs. The only reason i stopped was because of the threats i was getting and negative comments on a daily basis from people who disagreed with my rankings :(((
@@SephPlays man, that's so horrible 😪
Keep up with your excellent work. It's what keeping me on youtube 😊
I think this is the lowest voice he sings with in a whole song. I get a Christmas vibe. D+.
Seph: Gospel by Jerry Reed. The ONLY Elvis song, where I prefer the original. I heard Jerry Reed’s version first. Please give his a listen. th-cam.com/video/Rumn5cXdl7g/w-d-xo.htmlsi=GrMwtkARZnrSpdgN
I totally understand the ranking.
You are not ranking Elvis or his voice, you are ranking the songs.
