Lincoln (and Dan) -- I work for the company that makes those bases: Schutt Sports (say it like 'shut up and play'). It's cool to get to see what people will do with the bases once they've come off the field--stools, side tables, wall fields (someone bought three bases and a home plate for his man cave). I like the idea of mounting them to the wall on the long cut side--looks like someone threw it and it got stuck there. :) The base is a few parts: the metal plate and stem on the bottom, screws, metal strips, inner foam, outer rubber skin, and of course--the jewels on the sides. Each MLB team gets to choose what their jewels look like--the Tigers wanted to show that they were 4-Time AL Central Champion, and each team does something a little bit different. Well done!
To answer your question, most teams change bases for two reasons. 1. It's helpful for the bases to be as white as possible. It makes it easier for the umpires to make some close calls. Easier to see and stuff. So they replace them towards the end of the game. 2. Using multiple bases per game gives them more things to sell. Lol
+Brayden Curtis No kidding. They could have bought any random base, instead they cut open one used in a game that a fan would have liked to have intact. What a waste.
Brayden Curtis Personally, neither would I. However, I would have never been at a tiger/yankee game. (I think those were the teams that played its been a few days since I watched this) now a STL Cards game on the other hand! I'd love to have a base from busch stadium.
Highly informative. The construct of a modern baseball base is always overlooked, but it provides valuable information on why too many players get injured when sliding into bases. Got a feeling that pole which juts out from the bottom and is inserted into a shaft in the infield is the primary culprit because there's no give.
I don't like how ur cutting open a piece of baseball history. that an old game used one. I get it if u cut open a new one that u buy at like walmart or target but something like that u just don't do
+The banana squad It is not even that valuable. It was from a regular season game in April that had no significance once so ever. Plus there is 6 bases (1st, 2nd, 3rd get replaced) used every game. AND all the good Yankees players did not play. Here is a link if you want to not be a idiot. scores.espn.go.com/mlb/boxscore?gameId=350422106 Reply ·
I agree with banana squad, so what if it's not a special game it's incredible souvenir. there's a lot stuff I can't believe that they cut, like stuff they bring back from another country. like you can't find similar from a local Walmart
+Thomas Huber Most things people bring home from other countries as souvenirs are less valuable than everything in Walmart. And the base probably is worth less than anything in Walmart, too. In that store they even sold dirt, lmao, because 'Murica, I guess? I don't know, but that shit's hilarious. Hell, the only reason they switch them out so quickly is probably to have more to sell.
I agree with banana squad why whould you cut a peice of history from a Detriot Tigers vs New York Yankees game? I mean serisiously that was just a waste of cutting something open like that
i believe your refering to a street hockey stick, or a plastic stick. the inside, like someone mentioned, is hollow. the blade is just a thick piece of plastic that is attached my screws. although i sounds cool there really wouldnt be much to see. Have a good day!-Taylor
The reason they have the squishy stuff is first for support and second so that when a runner steps on the bag it makes a different sound then when the ball hits the glove so the umpire can tell weather the batter is safe or out!
I wonder how much money they make selling every single items used in those games. They will probably start selling the urinals in the players change room lol
You should have a vlog channel so we could see where you guys are to get the things for the what's inside vids and see that u are having fun all around the world.
Just found your channel from the TH-cam play button video, like a lot of people :P But I'm glad your channel is growing so much, it will be cool when your son gets older and he can look back on all of these videos with you & him.
+TheREDHeadPower I don't think it's "the most racist thing ever" I just don't like the idea of saying someone fulfills every stereotype about group X. Nor do I like the double standard where people can say whatever they want about white people, but the same can't be said about other colors. I make "I'm so white jokes" all the time so it doesn't really offend me and I do get it. I would argue it's fine to tease people about fulfilling some stereotype to get a laugh regardless of skin color.
the reason the base is only used till the second inning is because during the 7th inning stretch they re-drag the field and put new base and re-line the chalk they like the field to always look professional.
They replace bags after the six inning so the umps can see them, also so cameras can pick them up, and people far up can see them... When they get dirty they are pretty hard to see...

I am from DETROIT.(I live in the suburbs)Comerica Park is we’re the tigers play and the redwings just got a new arena called little ceasers arena it all lights up.i have a game used tigers base in my room it’s NOT cut in half. Whats inside should go to Little Ceasers Arena and cut open a hockey stick
Whats inside, a pair of Mickey boots military issue?, my white pair have lasted me many winters and never given me an issue, wonder what technologies are inside to keep my feet toasty in -30 weather.
The reason it was in the game for innings 1-6 was to get it dirty and make it "Game Used" valid. I always see workers take out bases after the 6th inning to sell the base that exact game.
Game used bases prices generally range from $199 to $4000. This is a 3rd base, no autograph, no significant event, no special play and the innings are 1-6. It's a safe bet that it cost between $299 - $499, the reason would be that it was used in a Yankee's game. NY Yankee's memorabilia fetch a bit of a higher price. Unfortunately he cut the base in half, the base is pretty much worthless in terms of price and collection.
Lincoln (and Dan) -- I work for the company that makes those bases: Schutt Sports (say it like 'shut up and play'). +Anon54387 I know its the only one in the world
+The Proxy Moxie Technically no. There is the one used from the 7-9th inning of the very same game.
it was still used I wouldn't cut it open
Brayden Curtis Personally, neither would I. However, I would have never been at a tiger/yankee game. (I think those were the teams that played its been a few days since I watched this)
now a STL Cards game on the other hand! I'd love to have a base from busch stadium.
finally saw some who had same idea's like me, I love seeing what's inside any thing.
I love the way the dad and the son were talking THEY WILL BE THE BEST FAMILY
I am English so I don't know how to play baseball but why was Dan calling it a bag
+sanik the bear That is what we always called it growing up, I played baseball for 12 years. Base certainly is the proper word.
+sanik the bear Because orignally it was more of a canvas sack than the rubber that its made of today.
bmx back flip fails to meet you destination
because even before baseball was an official sport people would use bags
+sanik the bear They used to be bags filled with powder tied to the ground.

That's what she said
What's inside a hockey stick!
that would be cool. but make sure it is a composite stick and not a wooden stick. a wooden stick would just be all wood inside
Most sticks they make now are just hollow
+Collin Looman yeah the shaft is but not the blade
+OvertakeSV it would be cool you can get a composite stick for about 30 dollars
Nothing... I've played hockey for 10 years. I would know
I love the New York Yankees!!!!

I don't I like the Detroit tigers
THEY LOST DX
No go blue jays

you should do wants inside a AFL Ball it's weird but cool I think
Agree who do u go for?
It's a bloon inside a afl footy
Geelong Cats
But it's a pretty much just a balloon inside it and air.
Go the mighty fighting Hawks!
It would just be a normal football just with less air even ask Tom Brady
you've probably heard this before, but you should invest in a ban saw and a jigsaw. would make many of your cuts easier and cleaner.
The reason they have the squishy stuff is first for support and second so that when a runner steps on the bag it makes a different sound then when the ball hits the glove so the umpire can tell weather the batter is safe or out!
