I don't often respond to reviews as the purpose is to be informative so it borders on redundant, yet many fall short of this goal. However, I am compelled to compliment the speaker on an excellent presentation. This was by far one of the best reviews I've seen on this camera, since I am considering a purchase, I have watched several up to this point. Mr. Becker displayed superb knowledge of the T5i and is equally fluent in his vocabulary on the subject. I liked the review style and consider it very informative, so for this 7:31 minute investment on my part, I have decided to commit to purchase. Thank you Mr. Becker and B&H for your effort, kudos!
This is the most explanatory video I’ve watched! I have a t5i coming in the mail, and I’m going to watch this again when I get it. You made this so easy to understand! Great job!
I was given this as my very first DSLR and I absolutely love it!!! My mom gave it to me because she upgraded and I was blown away. I can't put into words how lovely this thing is and how easy it is to learn on. I love Canon and don't see myself ever needing to upgrade this body for many many years yet. If anyone is wondering if this is worth the money. I can guarantee that it most certainly is and will be worth every penny. You will learn fast on it if you're making the jump from point and shoot's to DSLR's if you put a few hours in to getting to know your new gadget and asking questions from any family or friends who are photographers, or just by simply surfing the net and joining up on some forums and watching YT videos. Anyways, happy shooting!!! CHEERS!!! =D PEACE!!!
Wow! I've been making movies and doing photography for almost a year now and the focus sound has always been something that's bugged me a lot. Thanks for informing me about what an STM lens is :)
In the P, TV, AV, and M exposure modes you have the ability to select the AF point and use it to focus on the subject. In the other exposure modes the camera is designed to focus on the closest subject to the camera. Page 100 of the camera?s instruction manual details how to set the camera so you may select the focus point. - Yossi
Hi Charles, we're aware that the T4i and the T5i are very similar, including the touchscreen. In fact, when Larry enumerates the few differences between the two, you'll notice that the touchscreen is not mentioned in any way. Our goal is to be clear and complete with information always, and never misleading. Thanks for watching.
Just like the T4i and the SL1, under the 3rd Setup menu you have the option to Disable Touch Control. The great news is that traditional menu navigation with the Quick Control button and Cross Keys, works perfectly and touch control isn't necessary to operate the camera or access menu items.
Hi, that was a feature that Canon had planned but never actually implemented on the T5i. Our apologies for the inaccuracy, and we're working on a fix for the video. Thanks for watching.
+Natalia Valente Yes it will if you have the AF set on the lens. When depressing the shutter button to take the self-timed photo, a half-depression of the shutter button will deploy the AF, and once your satisfied with the focus you can then fully depress the shutter button to activate the self timer. - Yossi
as much as i love Canon, they've been essentially pushing out the same Rebel camera since the T2i. yeah, the flip out touch screen and STM kit lens is definitely a plus, but when you look at the specs that really matter, and if you can do without all the fancy features that dont improve your photos, i'd suggest just going with the T2i, if you can find one.
I'd put my money towards the Canon. Not only does it have better image quality, but you also have a much larger selection base of lenses and accessories for the Canon then you would for the Samsung. Canon has almost 10 times the lens options available for it. Thats worth considering when investing into a camera system. - Yossi
I'm a film maker and I'm upgrading from an old Cannon VIXIA HF R10 to this camera very soon. Touch screens are great.I frequently use and enjoy it.Especially shooting in macro,it is so useful. If you want to get all benefits of touch screen, it needs some practice of course.! My 7D does not work well with 500mm f4 , but T4i does so well.(My 7D great with 600mm f4L II)
Ya I'm not sure if I should get this or the sony a6000 I like how small it is but I like how the canon has a touch screen it's easier to focus and I like changing the Manuel settings on the screen
Very clear explained! Helpful. But what do you mean at 1:19 that it can zoom digitally while recording? You mean with buttons on the camera instead of turning the zoom ring? (I'm probably going to buy this one but I only saved up for 1/3 of the budget so far :) )
I bought my camera 1 month ago, today i took a picture and as soon as its about to flash the whole camera turns off, and wont turn on again unless i take the battery out and then insert it again :( any suggestions? Battery is new and fully charged
I am sorry you are having this issue. From what you've reported it sounds as if you possibly have a defective battery or some other issues with the camera's electronics system. I am heavily debating between the t4/5i and the Nikon 5200/5300,,Reason for the Nikon,,More mp,,reason for the Canon,,camera setting when changed can be seen in real time in live view,,I am thinking this may be helpful as a first dslr...Probably will not get the kit and get 2 lenses,,40mm 2.8? For Jewelry photos, and a lens for mostly out door landscape photos mostly "stills"...I'd like to call tomorrow afternoon,,,who should i ask for? Thanks
Both Canon and Nikon make excellent cameras, and it would be hard to go wrong with either the T5i or D5100. If you are leaning towards the T5i, I would suggest looking at a macro lens for Jewelry over the 40mm pancake lens. As for whom to ask for over the phone, any of our agents in the Pro Photo Department would be able to assist you. Christina- askbh@bandh.com
Your video was great and very informative. Quick question, I am looking to purchase this camera to shoot video. Is their a limitation to the length of the video that can be shot?
nicole gradeless Yes, continuous shooting while in movie (video) mode is limited to about 29 minutes 59 seconds. Please contact us via e-mail if you have additional questions: askbh@bandh.com >Mark
Would you recommend the T5i and its 18-135mm lens kit for student filmmaking? To me that range sounds like it would cover quite a variety of shots am I right?
The T5i has a much improved video auto focus system. Unfortunately, it is not as quick as a regular consumer camcorder. If you are unable to get the AF to perform to your satisfaction, I suggest getting an optical or electronic viewfinder in order to facilitate you being able to do continual manual focus. One example. Hello may i know whether we can select the single point focus in view finder? I mean like choosing the point we want to focus when looking the viewfinder like how nikon can
Hello I have one question: I have a Canon Rebel T5i that I bought 3 months ago and I shoot wedding shot short videos with it in HD but the problem is that everytime I move my camera to another point it makes blury!! I always videoshoot on auto and servo on and autofocus on because things happes so fast in the wedding and I have no time to set all this things manualy! What do you suggest me to do how should i set my camera settings to get FULL HD and not blury at all ?!! Thank you. Albion.
I just bought the RODE videomic pro and was told I have to lower the internal volume on the camera, I'm having an issue finding where to do that. Can you explain where I find the volume settings to lower the internal mic? Thank you!
The audio settings for video recording is under the Movie Menu in the Canon T5i?s camera menu. The camera must be in Movie Mode before you press the MENU button to access the Camera Movie Menu settings. You would have to change the Sound Recording from Auto to Manual. Follow the instructions listed in your camera?s instruction manual on page 198 (though you may read pages 196-199.) If you do not have your instruction manual, you may download one from Canon USA?s website.
***** My best advice is to shoot a lot, when you think you've shoot enough, you've not yet begun, shoot more. The more you shoot (both stills and video) the more experience you will gain both in the field and in processing/editing. Make mistakes, its digital so its very forgiving if you do make mistakes, just make sure to learn from them. The more you shoot, the more you will start to develop a personal style, of which you can then start to hone in to a marketable product to offer your future prospective clients. If you would like more focused advice, feel free to email us at askbh@bhphoto.com with any type of question, and our agents there can reply with all types of advice. - Yossi
I've been into photography since 1972, and these two cameras are great. Shoot a lot, learn from your mistakes. Develop your "eye". It's just like learning to play a musical instrument, practice, practice , practice. Put your time to good use. And by the way, the guys at B and H are very reputable, I've been a customer for years. Good luck to you.
this is my first dslr, I haven't got a tripod yet but will be needing one for stationary vlogging soon. do you have any tripod recommendations for this particular camera?
The Magnus VT-4000 Tripod System with Fluid Head (B&H # MAVT4000) is a stable, sturdy video tripod made from anodized aluminum that can support loads up to 8.8 lb. Overall, this tripod offers many features usually only found on more expensive models. The two-way fluid head provides smooth operation, and features a half-ball mount with a diameter of 65mm, with left and right pan bar mounts. It comes supplied with one pan bar. In addition, unlike most other heads in its class, all the head controls are positioned on the left side of the head, which leaves your right hand free for the panning handle. The VT-4000 tripod system weighs 7.9 lb. bhpho.to/1f6vRbT Please contact us via e-mail if you have additional questions: askbh@bandh.com>Mark
Overall, most features of the cameras are very similar to one another. Between the two, the T5i would be my choice. It is the newer model of the two, and has a better sensor used in it for image capture. It also has a faster burst rate of 5 frames per second vs 4fps in the Nikon. - Yossi
+tash babii If stills are your main concern I would still be leaning towards the T5i. The T5i would have a more expanded ISO range for better low light performance. Additionally the tilt and swivel screen of the T5i would also allow for more varied compositions, and the slight faster frame per second rate would give it the advantage for any kind of fast paced/action shooting. *Andrea
Hello. I'm a beginner in photography and an enthusiast of night sky pictures and city lights. ¿Is this camera a good choice for that kind of pictures? Thank you.
Yes, the Canon EOS Rebel T5i is definitely a great camera overall, and can be used to take night sky pictures and city lights etc. For those types of shots use of a tripod and remote shutter are recommended. - Yossi
+Dewain Audiss - Unfortunately, you cannot use the T5i’s viewfinder when shooting video as the mirror is up during video/live view. You could look at getting a loupe for the LCD such as the Hoodman HoodLoupe 3" Glare Free LCD Loupe. *Christina* AskPhoto@bhphoto.com bhpho.to/1CXNUd5
Wondering if it's possible to remove the Rebel t5i badge on the left side and replace it with the 700D badge used in Europe? If so, where can I get the badge and how would I do this?
+SmpTecHD That isn’t designed to be removed/interchanged. While you might be able to get the T5i decal off with a bit of force, I don’t know where one would find a 700D decal. I’m also not sure what method might use to keep the new decal securely attached. *Christina* AskPhoto@bhphoto.com

I want to go far in youtube and get a very very very GOOD camera to film with! Do u recommend cannon EOS rebel t3i or t5i? And if I get one of those should I get the kit with the extra lens?
The T5i is a very small upgrade over the T4i. It adds real time preview of the creative filters in live view. The T5i new mode dial moves 360 degrees and it has a new up-market finish. The EOS Rebel T5i also features new lens correction tools that compensate for lens characteristics that can affect overall image quality. Dana G. askbh{at}bandh{dot}com
Debating between the Powershot SX60 and the Rebel T5i. I know they are very different cameras. I am a beginner but I would like to advance in taking different photos. I work from home as a fitness coach / marketer and I do a lot of video trainings on TH-cam and self photos. I also will use the camera for personal use. I like the SX60 because of the zoom and easy transfer of pictures to smartphone via wifi for social media posts but I like the creativity the T5i give you also. A friend said the SX60 may not function well in low light compared to the T5i. Just wondering if you can highly recommend one over the other? I really like the wifi feature of the Powershot. It is hard to pass up. My max budget would be about $700. What are your thoughts? Thanks.
Both are excellent cameras, and it would be hard to go wrong with either. The T5i will have the better low light performance. That being said, if you feel like you really want to go with the SX60, you could get away with it for your needs. And with what you save in the difference in pricing, you could look into picking up a decent external mic for your videos, a solid tripod, or a small video light (things that could really help in the quality of your videos). *Christina* askbh@bandh.com
I just bought the Canon t5i for Christmas. Just before Christmas actually. When I take pictures it will allow me to take 3 pictures then it won't take any more pictures. When I press the button it does nothing. I press it halfway, it focuses and then... nothing. it's been this way since I bought the camera. When it first started happening it used to have a busy word flash real quick every time I tried to take a picture. any ideas what this might be or is my camera broke?
+404now Could be the speed of the memory card you are using. Slower cards will stop the camera from shooting if they are still writing information to the card. I would make sure you are using at least a Class 10 speed card. *Andrea
If I'm going to be using an slr for primarily video recording, is this camera worth the extra money over the 100D or Sl1? Its over $170 au more expensive than the SL1 and I don't get paid much, and I've heard that the sl1 is as good if not better than the t5i when it comes to video
In comparison to the SL1, the T5i has the better autofocus system and has a flip-out LCD. Both of these would give the T5i an edge over the SL1 in terms of video. I would likely lean towards the T5i. *Christina* AskTH-cam@bhphoto.com
400x speed card does not help when taking images... class 10 would be the fastest speed, etc. The 400x speed would be transfer to your computer... just adding. And, I love your videos. ty for always sharing and feel free to delete this comment.
Hi Could you please upload a video how to find Canon rebel t5i factory setting? I look at to to reset my camera there is not such video I cannot find the factory setting on T5I
Unfortunately, we don’t have a video for reverting the camera to the default settings. Though, you can find the step by step instructions for doing this on pg 214 of the camera’s manual. *Christina* AskTH-cam@bhphoto.com bit.ly/1yrSgsU
+Christian Santizo Still image quality between these two cameras would be remarkably similar and give great results either way you go. Video performance, specifically autofocus during video is what makes the T5i stand out. The Hybrid CMOS AF in combination with Canon’s STM lenses provides smooth and silent autofocus while recording video or shooting stills with the live view screen, outperforming the D3300 in the area. For the best of both worlds, I would suggest the T5i. *Andrea
The Canon EOS Rebel T5i and the 700D are the same cameras actually. The Canon 10-22mm lens is fully compatible with both. In addition to the 10-22mm lens Canon now offers a more affordable 10-18mm lens which has proven to be a great option with very nice image quality. As a separate recommendation, Sigma brand also offers a very nice 10-20mm lens which is sharp with nice contrast as well. See the links below for details on each lens. ? Yossi bhpho.to/1fgGZne bhpho.to/1j25VkA bhpho.to/W483gX
+Rishabh Pandey - The D5200 would have the better overall color depth, dynamic range, and low light performance. Though, keep in mind that what lens you are using will have as much impact on overall image quality as the camera itself: light has to pass through the lens before it reaches the sensor. *Christina* AskTH-cam@bhphoto.com
Khang Vang If you are referring to the "STM" designation (I am not familiar with TSM), STM indicates a Canon lens with a Stepping Motor built into the lens, designed for smooth and silent autofocusing during video capture with cameras equipped with their Movie Servo AF capability. For newer Canon cameras that provide Movie Servo AF, these lenses will focus much smoother and more quietly compared to non-STM lenses, though non-STM lenses will still autofocus with these cameras.
They both share the range between the 18mm through 55mm focals, the 18-135mm lens simply has a longer focal range to work with, in this instance giving a nice telephoto aspect for subjects further away. 18mm is considered wide angle in this format, and 55mm is the beginning of the telephoto focals roughly. Below is a link to a popular lens manufacturer?s website (Tamron) specifically linked to their Focal Length Comparison Tool. This tool will allow you to view the same image taken at any focal with a slider so you may compare them and understand each?s setting and purpose through a visual means. Hope this helps. ? Loti Shaqiri HD At any given point Canon offers typically 3-4 different Rebel Models in their lineup to appeal to users of various skill levels and budgets. The reason they discontinued it and replaced it is similar to the same reason car manufacturers release new versions of their cars each year. They strive to keep their lineup fresh with the latest features and improvements etc. There was nothing wrong with the camera per se, they just decided to release the newer model. - Yossi
You can shoot in this type of low-light situation with this camera. You will need to use a high ISO setting, mount the camera on a tripod. and use a "fast", large aperture lens for the best results. Something like the Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 USM Lens, a standard length lens featuring superb quality and portability. Its f/1.4 maximum aperture makes it very effective in low light situations and able to provide shallow depth of field focus. Nikon D5200 is Excellent in low light performance (both video and still) compare to T5i and Panasonic GH3 (See eoshd{dot}com website). Xlent image quality for D5200 compare to T5i, DXO mark Sensor rating for D5200 is 83 and for t5i is 61. You have full manual control in video for T5i where as D5200 has manual control in LiveView but cannot change aperture in liveview mode. To change Aperture u have to exit from liveview and change aperture and go back to liveview.

Did you use the kit lens for taking the pictures of the bird?
They don’t specifically mention which lens is being used to take the photos of the birds. That being said, it looks like they are using one of the kit lenses. *Christina* AskTH-cam@bhphoto.com

Here's some nature test footage shot with the Canon T5i Streams of Spangler: Fall Edition | Canon T5i Nature Film

I still shoot film with my old Minolta / Rokkor gear, but want a dslr and video combination back-up, 5200 or the 5Ti ? Thanks.
Overall, most features of the cameras are very similar to one another. Between the two, the T5i would be my choice. It is the newer model of the two, and has a better sensor used in it for image capture. It also has a faster burst rate of 5 frames per second vs 4fps in the Nikon. - Yossi
I recently bought a t3i but now I want this one. Is there any way I can sell my camera and buy the Canon T5i?
would this camera still be good for TH-cam videos and some photography
Saul Valles I'd say so!
I am deciding between this camera and the Nikon D3200. I mostly want to take great still images. Which would you recommend?
- Yossi
I dont have enough money for the 18-135mm lens, so should I just buy the 18-55mm lens? or should I just buy the base and get a different lens. Help?
can someone please tell me what i should set my camera on for taking summer pics..non moving picks..RAW ? Thanks
how do you use the view finder during vidio? this would make it MUCH easier to find the object being shot,
+Dewain Audiss - Unfortunately, you cannot use the T5i’s viewfinder when shooting video as the mirror is up during video/live view. You could look at getting a loupe for the LCD such as the Hoodman HoodLoupe 3" Glare Free LCD Loupe. *Christina* AskPhoto@bhphoto.com

Do the screen flip so you can take selfies?

If I set this camera up on a tripod and put on the timer, will it autofocus?
how long of a video can the t5i record in one sitting?
Maximum continuous recording is just under 30 minutes. >Mark
Great, I'm planning to get the 6d soon.
Does the T5i have a headphone/microphone port?
The Rebel T5i has a standard microphone port but none for headphones. - Yossi
Hello sir, this is a really nice review but I was just wondering if one could switch from 30fps to 24fps? For a more cinematic look.
The Canon T5i can shoot 24fps in full 1080P HD video. ?Christina- askbh@bandh.com
I want to go far in youtube and get a very very very GOOD camera to film with! Do u recommend cannon EOS rebel t3i or t5i? And if I get one of those should I get the kit with the extra lens?
+LaurenVeronica use the t5i, more features and touch screen
+Lauren Veronica i know you probably got a camera, but for others the Canon 70D would be best
Lauren Veronica but body and a different lens. vlogging, 10-12, for other get a longer telephoto lens for photos or cinematics
Good video, Thanks B&H
The T5i is a very small upgrade over the T4i. It adds real time preview of the creative filters in live view. The T5i new mode dial moves 360 degrees and it has a new up-market finish. The EOS Rebel T5i also features new lens correction tools that compensate for lens characteristics that can affect overall image quality.

what recommended cheap lenses for photo and video for canon t5i?

Que editor de video puedo usar ademas de pr premiere cc?...
yeah it's a pretty good video editor
Awesome review for new beginners like me!. Thanks for sharing.
Which External Microphone do you recommended for this camera? I need one.
Can you guys tell me whether there is any difference between T4i with the T5i? I cannot find one maybe you guys know some.
*Andrea
This will be my first dslr
I'm going to a speacialized highschool audition for film and this is my first dslr any tips?
Film in 24p and use the shutterspeed 1/50. Also, remember to apply the rule of thirds.
I just got an eos rebel t5i and was wondering how do I take a picture of the northern lights ?? Any advice would be helpful :)
Put on scenery and get the perfect angle
If I'm going to be using an slr for primarily video recording, is this camera worth the extra money over the 100D or Sl1? Its over $170 au more expensive than the SL1 and I don't get paid much, and I've heard that the sl1 is as good if not better than the t5i when it comes to video
In comparison to the SL1, the T5i has the better autofocus system and has a flip-out LCD. Both of these would give the T5i an edge over the SL1 in terms of video. I would likely lean towards the T5i. *Christina* AskTH-cam@bhphoto.com
Thanks!
How is the nx300 compared to this..??
400x speed card does not help when taking images... class 10 would be the fastest speed, etc. The 400x speed would be transfer to your computer... just adding. And, I love your videos. ty for always sharing and feel free to delete this comment.
Hi
Could you please upload a video how to find Canon rebel t5i factory setting? I look at to to reset my camera there is not such video I cannot find the factory setting on T5I
Unfortunately, we don’t have a video for reverting the camera to the default settings. Though, you can find the step by step instructions for doing this on pg 214 of the camera’s manual. *Christina* AskTH-cam@bhphoto.com

what camera do you use to take the video of the camera xD
I'm looking into the Nikon D3300 and Canon T5i and want to take stills and video. Which would be best of both worlds?
Thank you!
*Andrea
Is it possible to use a t3i remote with it?
Hi sir.. What is the nice/best wide angle lens..??? Canon efs -10-22mm was compatible for canon700d.. Thanks sir
? Yossi

this one or d5200 ?
which has better image output quality?
+Rishabh Pandey - The D5200 would have the better overall color depth, dynamic range, and low light performance. Though, keep in mind that what lens you are using will have as much impact on overall image quality as the camera itself: light has to pass through the lens before it reaches the sensor. *Christina* AskTH-cam@bhphoto.com
What is the difference between the tsm lens and the one that is not tsm?
Khang Vang If you are referring to the "STM" designation (I am not familiar with TSM), STM indicates a Canon lens with a Stepping Motor built into the lens, designed for smooth and silent autofocusing during video capture with cameras equipped with their Movie Servo AF capability. For newer Canon cameras that provide Movie Servo AF, these lenses will focus much smoother and more quietly compared to non-STM lenses, though non-STM lenses will still autofocus with these cameras.
I'm a beginner photographer and I want to know what's the difference between 18-55 mm and 18-135 mm? I just want to know the general difference(:
? Yossi

Can anyone answer me where can I go to movie mode on my t5i? Every time I want to vlog about something my camera still makes sounds from the lenses.
Why I cant find Canon t4i on stores?
Canon has discontinued the Canon EOS Rebel T4i camera and it is no longer available new. It has been replaced with the T5i model. - Yossi
Why did Canon do that? B and H
- Yossi
Is this camera good for shooting video in very low light spaces like a dark room with a candle ??
You can shoot in this type of low-light situation with this camera. You will need to use a high ISO setting, mount the camera on a tripod. and use a "fast", large aperture lens for the best results. Something like the Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 USM Lens, a standard length lens featuring superb quality and portability. Its f/1.4 maximum aperture makes it very effective in low light situations and able to provide shallow depth of field focus. B&H # CA5014EF. bhpho.to/1opNC6p

Fantastic video!
