The thing is, you can't say "we Even warmed up to refugees". Like you mentioned, because of race, you became warm towards Ukrainians. The premise of being warm to refugees stops being valid BECAUSE it's not refugees if it's only warmth for specific people. Just like you can't say, we became warm to hugs if it's only hugs from one specific person.

Arguably, NATO and the west should have been in Ukraine with troops on the ground when Russia pushed beyond Crimea - we promised to protect them when they gave up Nuclear Weapons. Possibly the only reason a black market nuke never disappeared and detonated in London or New York or Jeruselem is because a Ukraine which couldn't manage those weapons agreed to give them up in exchange for our protection, and we failed when that call to protect came due.

Think about how Putin justified invading Ukraine, I have been on about this since he invaded.
Putin said if Ukraine joins NATO he cannot abide Ukraine on his border, so his hand was forced. There was foil hat hypernormalisation stuff that came later but the NATO thing was the initial public reason. Go look out a map of mainland Europe. You found Ukraine? See how many countries border it? This is iffy memory so please check this number, there is like 8 countries that share a border with a maybe soon totally occupied Ukraine (thanks conservative movement for pivoting and moaning about giving military aid to Zelenskyy, 'can you do us a favor though?').
Write down the names of the countries.
Now look up the members of NATO... roh row.
If he takes Ukraine he need only dust off his flimsy excuse for invading Ukraine, scribble out the word Ukraine and write in the name of one of the several NATO countries bordering Putin occupied Ukraine.
It's hardly palace intrigue, it's just a bit of stating a couple of obvious things. What would stop him? His conscience? He kills people in other countries without meaningful consequences! Tommy ten names need told aid to Ukraine is UK defense spending 'cause if he takes Ukraine then a or several NATO countries, he borders more NATO countries and so on and so forth til you are in your sleep village wearing a bear skin hat and misjudged tweet leads to your disappearance.

How do you support that opinion? All they wanted was a neutral Ukraine….even after the moved to prevent that, they would have withdrawn if Ukraine agreed to be neutral and they had international guarantees. Boris Johnson put an end to that with his pathetic revival of a Churchill speech probably. Puten doesn’t even want to manage a west Ukraine…
