Actually I found out the ski tradition in Altai is more like 8000 years old!!! Thank you my awesome friend for sharing these moments of discovery with me, and for making such a great film. (As usual). Many more adventures to come.
Haha! Susanna's old bones. Thanks for posting this. I'm going to pick up a pair of these soon, and this video answered all of my questions about them, especially the bindings.
Many thanks for watching ...and listening ;) Here if you like, where the skies first in use for a alpine bivouac: th-cam.com/video/ON05_C-JmdA/w-d-xo.html Best to you and yours, Sepp also for Susanne
Great video! I've had the Kar 147 UC made by OAC and now I'm thinking about buying the XCD GT 160 model. What made me choose them over Altais, is that they have more gliding surface in them (shorter mohair skins), so they are faster on even ground and downhills. Haven't tried Altais, Im sure they are awesome as well! I wish you guys get lots of snow this winter!
It looks awful cold out there Sepp, but, it also looks like a lot of fun. Thanks for letting us go along with you and Susanne. Take care and enjoy those outdoors.
Hallo Sepp Ein ganz tolles Video und eine schöne Gegend Ich wünsche dir und deiner Familie noch ein ganz tolles neues Jahr und natürlich auch Susanne:-) VG Guido
I have Altai Hok skis and I love them. And you don't need to live in the mountains to use them. l live in the prairies and they are the perfect ski for tramping around the farm or acreage. I actually ski most often in larger city parks and golf courses. No groomed trails needed! Make your own trails.
Great to see you both out there and you have a little more snow the we have here:-) I like this kind of Skis but i also like my snow shoes, maybe one day i'll try them, hope to see you both soon!!! Taro
Taromovies Swiss Bushcraft & Survival Danke lieber Taro! Susanne hat extra 2 Paar gekauft um mit Kollegen rausgehen zu können. Da kommst Du sicher bald mal zum Zug ;) LG und ja hoffentlich auf bald, Sepp
Reminds me of the snow we had in the uk I had tons of time of because of it and spent the days skiing around Because I was skiing (in the uk) along the pavement I got a lot of funny looks 😂. Great videos
Thank you very much! Haha yes, my exwife always fell a shame with me and used to say to people "he don´t mean it this way" what gave me the chance to say: Yes "the joke" is exact what i mean. Gladly Sandra my wife now, understand my humor ;)) Best to you Fred!
Bushcraft North of 60 Ah very cool, we had another winterbiwak with them th-cam.com/video/ON05_C-JmdA/w-d-xo.html and yes we like them. Need to practice the downhill stuff and maybe mod the binding. But their function is great! Enjoy!
You echo my thoughts exactly. Between Lar's skis, the documentary Happy People: A Year in the Taiga and a National Geographic article a few years back ngm.nationalgeographic.com/2013/12/first-skiers/jenkins-text I was excited to see these skis. It helps for me the company is Canadian.
Servus Sepp, tolles Video!
~95 kg with the outfit. 145 cm, yes. But they have some problems, the binding open often, downhil is dangerous!? So at your own risk ;) On flat ground they are very good. ATB Sepp
Nice vid sepp. I've just got back from skiing in Hemsedal Norway. The Altai skis are not actually for skiing though are they? Could you damage an ankle in these skis. I noticed that the bindings lock your feet in, and there is no release mechanism in case of a fall.
Sepp & Susanne; Very nice video, You two seem to have a lot of fun together; Good friends are nice to have, but great friends are rare to find 8:) ; I like the coffee machine can they be purchased from store? Rob from Oregon
Thank you so much Rob! ...it´s similar to this picclick.de/ungarische-Espressomaschine-252612415645.html ? maybe you find something, hungarian army espit coffee and so on.
Hi Clint, for a novice i would not recommend this skies. On flat ground nice, the longer one for you. But hard to control on hard steep ground. Take care, Sepp
I will get them as soon as they become available in the US. "There is nothing so powerful as an idea whose time has come"--- out of one of the most remote areas on Earth.
i'd probably fall and break my arse on skis, so i'll stick to snowshoes...beautiful day and lots of fun..."noisy old bones'....funny...but remember Sepp, way out in the back country, no one hears you scream!...lol...taker easy amigo...woods
Dudes, First of all you guys don't know basic high school geography -- Altai is a part of Russian Siberia. Haven't you read it on company web-site? Chinese have nothing to do with this design as it is a part of whole Siberian nations culture! And original skies covered with moose or horse skin material and are still produced in Russia for example -- Company "Poskryakov". Before making review do some research -- it is very easy to do nowdays on Internet!
DuStKalle - Actually the Altai mountains also include areas of china. Have a look at the map. More importantly have a read of the book called Two Planks and a Passion by Roland Huntsford. It describes in detail the archeological and literary history of skiing and skis. You will find that in the time when skis were invented they were widespread across snow-carrying tundra regions including much of what is now the Altai mountains. Altai people do not much care what you call them. Have a look at some of the footage in the various documentary films. Skiing is not something I think should be polluted by politics.
Well I kind of agree that siberian nations do not belong per se to China or Russia. But Siberia was a part of Russian Empire for centuries and never part of China Empire. Therefore as a matter of fact if you talk to russian people especially in Siberia they would instantly recognize those skies but if you would talk to REAL Chinese (not those nations which happen to live in northern outskirts of China) they wold have no clue what you are talking about. Russians did not invent those skies but it is part of their culture. Chinese did not invent those skies and it is not part of their culture. If you talk about fairly resent history (not archaeological) those people were part of russian empire and a great deal Siberian russian culture. I do not know Chinese language but just challenge you to find those skies sold on internet on Chinese web site while on russian sites it is a matter of common knowledge. It is not politics. If you want to refer people to ski culture in modern history you must give them right reference. Otherwise they would try to find those skies used by Chinese in vain.
Actually I found out the ski tradition in Altai is more like 8000 years old!!! Thank you my awesome friend for sharing these moments of discovery with me, and for making such a great film. (As usual). Many more adventures to come.
Thank You Susunne! I'm glad you have two times the ski ;) Happy Week, Sepp

Great video, I have been thinking about buying these myself. Sepp, what size are you using?? There website shows 125cm and a newer length of 145cm??
Ok, I just saw in the video that you are on the 145 cm, how much do you weigh? Wieviel wiegen Sie??
~95 kg with the outfit. 145 cm, yes. But they have some problems, the binding open often, downhil is dangerous!? So at your own risk ;) On flat ground they are very good. ATB Sepp

Thank you Brian!
So I'm NOT a skier (yet), weigh 180 lbs, and am 6'1. Would you recommend 125cm vs. 145cm for a novice?
Hi Clint, for a novice i would not recommend this skies. On flat ground nice, the longer one for you. But hard to control on hard steep ground. Take care, Sepp

Altai people are mostly in Russia.
