It was a short sighted decision to pull up the tracks between Adelaide and Mount Barker. The tourism opportunities of having a steam loco leaving Adelaide Railway Station and arriving at Victor would have been incredible.

Thanks! I plan on making more informative style videos like this one in the future. When I have time I am slowly working on getting video of the Balaklava Moonta line as well, so I’ll be delving into abandoned railways for the first time (which is what I actually started out photographing before filming trains!) your videos have been a good source of inspiration.

Man, SteamRanger really knows how to put on a fantastic event. It's such a shame we don't have anything remotely close to that in WA (apart from the hotham and boyanup). Great video!

Thanks, I’m actually jealous of what Victoria has with their newport open days, it seems 10 times bigger lol. Steamranger still does well with it though, well enough that we were there for nearly the whole day. I’d like to go to WA, would be cool to see the W class locomotives, of which there are multiple in SA.

    • @redhen334

That would be interesting to see! But I don’t think steamranger would do it for safety reasons and also to avoid damage their stock. If there’s too much force put on the couplers it can actually rip the coupler away from the wagon or loco.
