I remember I was in Iraq during the Gulf War and I was so sick of being there. I was suicidal, homesick, broke. I saw this video on Video Music Box, yes they had that in Iraq, Lol, and it changed my life. 27 years, a beautiful wife and 3 fantastic children later and all I can say is thank you Loose Ends for this song. It saved my life.
We need to give Loose Ends their flowers! Carl was and is a wildly talented producer and Jane Eugene from the original line up had the sweetest voice. The quiet keyboard player was hot. Dial 999 is my all time fav. Love them from their first album and forever.
Dial 999 is the number 1 song from Loose Ends and that's saying something because they have soooooooo many dope cuts. Let's rock New horizon Choose me Stay a while child Slow down Hanging on a string Mr bachelor
"Don't waste your life away" Even when blasting this in 1990 did I not understand and heed these words. So much time has gone by with seemingly missed opportunities. I realize they're lessons learned and the good news is I still have time!
Things that I've been through a life I think that our opportune and things to be opportunistic is being in that same place when you supposed to be at that place always leave your big head forward let your feet catch up before she will fall God has your program just like these phones let it Ride every day
Honey I had a dream about this last night and you're right , now that I'm 42 I recall the 90s when life was young and innocent, I took so much for granted , I would love to know where they are now? Love this song
This song push me through the streets of Nyc in the 90'$ . Crack and homicides was everywhere. When I heard this song it changed my life and my out look on my new life . Don't be a fool !! 👍😂👍
Today makes it 16 years since I lost my dad, my pillar of support. This classic comes up on the radio on my way to my moms house and it makes a whole lot of sense.
Never stop dreaming. Never think that your current circumstances are forever. I'm a witness that positive change can happen. This song will always speak power. Always!!!
How can this be 33 years old!! For 3:45 minutes I've been transported back to 18 years old, Fond memories of Travelling to London to dance the weekend away in the Hammersmith Palais 😊
I remember seeing Loose Ends do this song on Soul Train. Loose Ends were the 1st British Soul band to have huge chart success in America. "Hanging on a String" went to #1 on the US R&B charts.
The album that this song came from is a classic overall! This song in particular not only can you move too, it actually has a message! Back when R & B/Hip-Hop had both! It held up back then and it hold up today!
2/Alpha Theta/86. In my opinion the entire world Slept on this band!!! Carl, Steve and Jane were a force!, they should be Paid to reunite!, excellent production on this joint!!!👌🏿
Fabulous, Yes, the message is realizing the truth, the greatness in oneself, imagination & being creative within one's life. Wake up & change your circumstance now. Superb vocals. Congrats. Freedom & Peace, always !
Nick Scott that's so inspirational in so many your right you get that message when she says "dreams are dreams and they do come true i believe in dreams don't you" never quit
Music used to mean something. Even though a lot was synthesized the music was very enjoyable. I love to reminese when listening to music from the 70s, 80s, and 90s
i have to admit when Steve Nichols and Jane Eugene left Loose Ends I thought they were done. But give Carl MacIntosh credit he reinvented to group and sound. Although this version of Loose Ends only released one album it was just as strong as previous albums. I wished this version would have released another album because they seemed to be hitting their stride. And they didn't even showcase Sunay Suleyman who had a decent voice. she sang lead on only one song which was Love Controversy. Seeing they were moving into New Jack the next album would have probably been just as good.
*Look How Long* was the absolute BEST that *Loose Ends* has ever put out. I mean, they had memorable ones on previous albums but *Look How Long* is one of the only albums I can listen to every song over and over and over again without ever getting tired of them! Absolutely a timeless, classic work of art!!!
Willie D. Washington Look how long was good, but I would give that praise to The Real Chuckaboo .... i loved every one of those songs. Maybe it just felt different to me because of where i was in life ... either way ANY LOOSE ENDS IS A GOOD LOOSE ENDS ... peace and blessings
Clint Shaw - That's exactly what it is, Clint. I believe where we were in life at that particular time sets up a very powerful aura of nostalgia that is difficult to shake. But "Look How Long" was the favorite of a close friend that year who later died very brutally to gun violence after my favorite cousin was murdered a month prior. So yes, these do factor in, however, the subject matter of the songs of that album truly resonate with my vibration and thoughts about relationships and life in general as well. The perfect infusion of hard hip hop beats, hooks and samples with funk and R&B provided for a smooth as well as energetic mix of the timeless kind for me. Definitely, peace and blessings!
I just amazes me how many awesome R&B groups that have come out of the UK. Loose Ends, Truce, Damage, Troi and others to name a few. It is a shame that they didn't get the exposure in the USA. Thank heavens for youtube so they can start too!
So true! I was very lucky to live in Germany where I heard a lot of great British R&B being played in the clubs there back in the late 80's early 90's.
not all R&B or bands but Cool Notes, Princess, Steve Dante, Imagination, Shakatak, 52nd St, Jaki Graham, Freeez, Total Contrast, Lynx, Junior, Omar, Incognito, Paul Hardcastle
Late 80's Wow! You got me Hangin on Strings Now I'm not your Play Thing! Lol man Loose Ends! Man what can you say. Definitely before it's time. The Original group was off the chain. I use to be in Virginia Beach in my Corvette with the T-tops off cruising to some Loose Ends. I still listen to both the first albums when I drink my Gin and Juice. Thanks Loose Ends for the Great Music!
I was on my way to Desert Shield/Storm, In Fort Meade. I have VHS video with my dad when he was alive and my brother filming, I was dancing to this song was in the background. My sister says this song reminds her of me. lol, Great song!!! Great Group!!!
When I was a teenager my parents would go to my grandparents house on the holidays for dinner and I would stay home playing the radio and this song played every time like it was talking to me and I would cry This song and Family Stand - Ghetto Heaven

I was a kid when this song was out but its popped in my head at the most interesting times, throughout my life. Kind of as a small voice of reason. That's the impact of great music
Here in 2021! I remember waiting for them to drop their next album… and after two years, this is the one they dropped. Takes me back to fall of 1990, the start of my military journey.
I played this and Optimistic by The Sounds of Blackness and Slave to the Vibe on repeat to get over a bad break-up. Which was totally my fault. Still makes me smile. Brilliant.
On top of the positive message in this song, the song itself is dope! Brings back so many memories the 90's was a great era in life, wish I could do it all again 😎
