- Poise is something i have wanted to work with for a long time. Having 61 poise while using a greatsword allows for trading with any classs of weapon, atleast for one light attack. this is super useful seeing as the greatsword is probably my favourite weapon class that actual has hyper armour.

Completely spaced on the fact that the lothric knight spear grants poise....
you can use that instead of yhorms shield, requires less vitality as well
It gives way less poise, though. Also, the shield looks hella tight with full havels. Gotta have that fashion too bro ;)
mine gives 10 poise and my yhorms does 7

The poise boosting items seem to give less poise if you have more, when naked a wolf ring+3 gives me 9 poise but with full havels only like 4. I think the shield and spear work the same way

Tell that to chase and the video. Poise in DS3 does not exist like it use to. How it works now is it decides whether or not you can tank through an attack while attacking. I would assume hyper armour is basically the same thing but increased even more based off of what your poise is and is only applied during weapon arts.

Poise only activates during specific frames on specific weapons, the whole thingy being called hyper-armor to cut the crap and save time.
That's not fucking poise that's hyper armor and it turns out, hyper armor makes no difference no matter how much poise you have so that ain't it bro.

Shit good thinking, I was baffled as why that happened, but it makes sense with him walking almost straight backwards that he was trying to menu while locked on
Its probably the FAP ring actually, life ring gives a good bonus and it was such a small amount of damage that the FAP makes a bit more sense. If he took off the life ring i'd expect it to have been at least 150 or more.
Actually an ordinary life ring only gives around 70 health don’t know exactly but it isn’t much.
And ordinary ROF not FAP ring this is DS3 only gives me like 20 health without it I have roughly 685 with I have exactly 701. It really wouldn’t do that much damage.

Leo Goutenoir I doubt they bring back the old poise system. It makes no sense to do that. They have now developed the correct system for poise they aren't going to go backwards. DS1 remaster will be DS1 content with DS3 mechanics. Watch
Violent Decay dark souls 1 remastered is having no gameplay changes aside from the password system and thats confirmed that everything will be the exact same as ds1 is now
DS1 "remaster" will be DS1 with DS1 mechanics and the DSfix mod.
Unless they're doing a remake. If it's a remake, then it'll be DS1 content in the DS3 engine.

By my calculations you actually have enough poise to poise through UGS, GA, CGS and one handed GH light attacks all the time as well. Greatswords have 16.88 poise health at 80% (When you attack no matter how much Poise Health you had before it goes back up to 80% so your constant trade poise is at 16.88.) UGS, GA, CGS and one handed GH all have 40.3 poise break. So at 50% poise (Havel's armor alone.) you would have been doing what you said at the beginning since Greatswords have 21.1 poise health. While at 50% UGS, GA, CGS and one handed GH would only have 20.15 poise break. But at 60 poise their poise breaking ability goes down to a low low 16.12 poise break. Which is lower than the constant poise health of a greatsword at 16.88.
I don't use a automated poise calculator. I do all the calculations myself and i trust my mind and an actual calculator more than i would any poise calculator since i've found them to be wrong before.
If you want to learn how to do it yourself it's simple math with a normal calculator on hand. You simply put in the calculator the poise break of any weapon that you want the poise through. I suggest doing 2h since 2h have way more poise breaking ability. Greatswords for example have 26 one handed but 33.8 two handed. It's easy enough to find all these numbers online. Then you need to simply put these numbers into your calculator, put in your characters poise % that you think you'll need via 1.(Insert poise %.) Then you take away the poise breaking ability of the weapon. After that open up a new calculator or simply reset the one you're using if you can remember the number you got (But to make sure i don't make any mistakes i just open a new one.) Then once again you just put in the poise breaking ability of the weapon, take away the number on the other calculator and there you'll see what the weapons new poise breaking ability is with the poise % you have. If it's lower than the 100% poise health of your weapon you can take one hit every time your poise breaks or resets and if it's lower than 80% of your poise health as long as that weapon can't ever hit you twice you'll always poise through their hits as long as your poise frames are active.
With a UGS or GA you need 52 poise to always break through a 2H GH. To get this poise i'd recommend using the Millwood Knight set with Yhorms great shield and the Wolf Ring +3 which gives a total of 52.13 poise %.
This is unless you are using the Ringed Knight Paired Greatswords or the Fume Ultra Greatsword as they actually have Great Hammer poise health. You only need 45.85 poise for a GH to hit through anything. There is also what i like the call the UGH. These 3 weapons the Ledo's Greathammer, Smough's Greathammer or Morne's Greathammer actually have even more Poise Health than the normal GH and you only need 42.16 to poise through any R1 hit in the game. Even from these hammers themselves.
As it's possible for a 2H Greatsword to poise through anything but 2 handed GHs. I may as well tell you that the Crucifix of the Mad King while 2H actually has 2H Greatsword poise health. Meaning that weapon as well can poise through UGS while also having the ability to out damage them. As people are use to breaking the Mad King with UGS feel free to poise up and show them that they're wrong. The L2 spam also has even more poise health than the three UGH i mentioned above so with enough poise to always hit through UGS the Crucifix of the Mad King can even poise through a GH's charged R2 attack while using the L2.
TL:DR Please tell me the abridged version. I play DS3 a lot so I might make a Poise build.
I'll give you just the numbers.
To use a GH and poise through any other GHs R1 spam you need 45.85 poise, for one hit you need 32.31. To poise through the UGS/GA/CGS R1 spam you need 38.86 and for one hit you need 23.58.
To use a UGS/GA and poise through any GHs R1 spam you need 52.00 poise, for one hit you need 40.00. To poise through other UGS/GA/CGS you need 45.81 and for one hit you need 32.26.
Below this you need way too much poise to take an unlimited number of hits from GH. So if you truly want to be a Poise monster i'd stick with a GH or UGS/GA.
My set up for Yhorms Great Machete is full Millwood with the Wolf Ring +3 and Yhorms Greatshield for a total of 52.14 poise.
The Fume UGS has the same poise as normal GHs. So they are easier to poise through attacks with than any other UGS.
For Ledo's, Smough's or Morne's Greathammers you need 42.16 to poise through any GH R1 spam or 27.70 for one hit. You need 34.69 to poise through any UGS/GA/CGS R1 spam or 18.37 for one hit. They have more than other GH for some reason. So i like to call them UGH.

I made a similar build using Yhorm's Greatshield, the Hollowslayer (for the low stamina consumption), Exile Mask, Havels Armor, Gundyrs Gauntlets and Havel's Leggings. Wolf Ring + 3, Havel's + 3, Wolf Ring +3 and the Leo Ring rather than the Prisoner's Chain, although the Chain probably would've been better in hindsight. Stats were something like 40 Vig, 20 End, 27 Str, 40 Dex and 53 Vit. Might remake it at some point, it was fun trading with EVERYTHING.
Also, going full Havel's gives you only 1 extra point of poise, I believe my armor set-up gives you 60 poise whilst still giving you 9 points out if vitality to invest into other things like Dex or Str.
EDIT: Yeah I checked, the same build with Chain can get up to 35 End instead of 20. 35 being 162 stamina, which is 2 points more than 40 End without the Ring of Favor. The same build can also take 2 points out of Endurance (33) and then put two points into Vit to use the Black Knight Sword without fatrolling.

Whenever I was using a stupid build just for fun, they would often use their generic straight sword build or whatever to try to cheese me. And Chase wasn't much better here. I'd imagine that guy stopped doing that not long after.

He should have ideally used the Hollowslayer since it has the fastest poise startup out of all the weapons - he doesn't really need the perseverance WA from the BKS.
Khushwinder Jasrotia I used the Hollowslayer in my version of this build, and you're right. Not to mention Hollowslayer is fantasic at roll catching AND has abnormally low stamina consumption, with 20 Endurance I was able to swing 5 or 6 times and still be able to roll away.

if you took Lothric Knight Long Spear in the left hand instead of Yhorms Greatshield you would get around 15 poise rather than 7

If you‘re going for a high poise greatsword build:
There are two phenomenal options over the bks, the hollowslayer with its insane innate hyperarmor to fully capitalize on the poise as you tank through everything with perseverance anyway, and the bastard sword (wut u say). The bastard sword can reset your poise health with its stomp wa and fully capitalize on the trading side of things

I used Havels set with the BK sword on my first 1v1 invadion in a long time and it held very well! It was very fun :)
That black knight sword is what brought me into the realm of heavy weapons.

At only 20 vit (thanks to the prisoners chain) and wearing the armor for the most poise you can, I’ve found that the Mad King Crucifix can trade with pretty much everything. My poise is in the lower thirties. The first stage weapon art on the MKC is what you’ll need to attack with for max trading. It’s a hell of a weapon.
This is basically my build minus the shield. It's a lot of fun for sure.
Poise does exist in DS3, its just saved for greatswords, if we had instant backstabs it would just be an actual DS1 remaster-

hey chase when you have a greatsword against a dagger i have found the best thing to do is to use the 1 handed wide moveset as it usually catches people at the end of their quickstep

my first ever invader on my first ever playthrough was a havel monster
This was my build that I out poised the Abyss watchers with in NG+2. Except I used Gael's greatsword.

I saw the greatshield and full Havel's set and immediately thought "How in the fuck are they not impossibly fatrolling let alone able to roll?"
@ChaseTheBro Use the LK Long Spear not Yhorm's Greatshield. You'll get 61.44 poise and you don't need 62 Vit. With the same rings at SL 125 your stats should be Vig 40, Attu 10, End 35, Vit 49, Str 38, Dex 32, Int/Faith 9 and luck 7. The damage from the BKS would be 535 two-handed, you'll have a little more health and 175 Def not 174. (like it's a big deal) This build gives me DS1 flashbacks lol.
You don't need Yhorm's great shield. Take the Lothric Knight Spear and it equates out about the same with everything else

I love this build, I use lothric spear for the poise instead, hollowslayer mainhand and corvian greatknife offhand. Gundyr helm and gaunts, and heavy crossbow. Pretty much prepared for anything.

2:31 That's obscene! Granted, that's the same way I beat the Farron Baitsword with my Pickaxe Tank. (With a Greathammer, you don't NEED Perseverance!) Only with the Leo Ring. That it one hell of a long Attack Animation, I'll trade with that, All Day. (It's also a lot Lighter than the BKS, you don't need YGS for the extra Poise, and it's all Strength, so you don't have to split your Scaling for Damage. Also, Galvanize rules if you have enough Poise you don't need Perseverance.) An offhand Butcher knife really helps for Rollcatching.

Hey Chase, doubt you will see this, but have you every considered making a PvP Guide? Focusing on the nuances of weapon match-ups, timing, what is parry-able, etc... Just an idea. I have been playing a long time and this would still be interesting to me. If I knew how to make videos, I might actually try to do it.

Whenever I feel useless, misleading, miserable and an actual objective mistake i remember that at least I'm not the poise stat in ds3
Great hammer perseverance is best because it scales with your poise I think.
Some say DS1 poise is better and DS3 is nonexistent.

Poise in DS3 is not a thing! it's called hyper armor
Poise is just going to increase your chance of winning a hyper armor battle against those who use the same type of your weapon... E.g, Claymore vs Gael or BKGS vs Moonlight GS, etc...

poise just actually applies real world physics in a sense now. you need momentum to have poise you cant just stand there and start a swing while getting hit like in the first dark souls.
