KOH Shootout 2020 Rock Bouncer vs Rock Crawler - Rock Rods EP95

- On Rock Rods Episode 95 we are taking you back out to the King of the Hammers Shootout 2020. We wish it was called the KOH Backdoor Shootout 2020 but this year we are on a new trail called Idle issues that is just to the right of Chocolate Thunder. This is a long technical course and I doubt any of these guys got any prerunning time on it so it's anyone's game in this Rock Bouncer vs Rock Crawler competition. Each Rock Racing driver gets one run and the fastest time wins. One thing is for certain there will be crashes and broken parts. King of the Hammers Shootout 2020 brought in a new obstacle and a new champion. We can't wait to see what the Southern Rock Racing Series guys have in store for rock bouncer racing next year. It seems pretty easy to tell the west coast guys and the southeast rock bouncers, assuming this out west at the KOH. Bouncers horsepowering the way up and the west coast guys with their finess crawling. Totally different styles

So I’m new to this glorious world of rocks and bouncing, why do you hear the drive belt squeal so often?
that is it slipping on the pulley, turning these massive tires are hard on the pumps
i would have thought they would use far less tire pressure, like 8-11 psi?
Most run 8-12 psi range depending on how fast they are running into the rocks
A little tough for the Crane Axel rig because it is so low to the rocks I think.
His motor wasn't running right I don't think.

The slow ones those were rock crawlers...the fast ones were rock bouncers.

It is you. You can't run 5 psi when you are racing at speed. That breaks wheels. Most of these guys run 10-12 PSI

Possibly a dumb question but why are all of these guys runnin their tires so inflated?? I can understand it with a couple of em an their “style” of climbing but others i dont get...
wheels can't take hits at speed with low air pressure, these guys are racing not crawling.

It would be awesome if someone got permission to fly a drone over this next year. Or maybe hook up a cable cam or something. I think overhead shots would look sweet.
they are very weird about drones there, no way you will get permission.

Seemed like 20+ minutes between every run and longer between every recovery.
it is always that way, 20 rigs took forever with all of the recoveries and it was butt cold

My favorite rig was Josh's rig with the tractor tires in back , motor sitting next to the drivers seat. We got to talk to him in the pits. Pretty cool guy.

@@BustedKnuckleVideo What I have in mind is something a little bigger with two 30 gal gas tanks for running long and hard - a limited cargo area to carry "whatever" with a cage designed with panels and canvas snaps so that you could somewhat run in foul weather. Kind of like a sand buggy on super-duper steroids. BTW - you're rig looks awesome - I'm from Grand Rapids, Mi. too.

good hill but took WAY to long for recovery's. Most spectators lost interest and were too cold to stay and watch. Also it was too far away to watch in person. I wouldn't go back to this hill if it was here again on 2021, I'd just stay in camp.
