It's actually a pretty simple story.
Both clubs agreed to carry out work on their stadiums in order to make it safe for 2,500 (roughly) away fans to get in and out of both grounds safely.
One club (Celtic) has completed those works
The other club (rangers) hasn't even applied for planning permission yet.
I'm getting sick of "I wish both clubs would just get together and sort it out...." They DID get together in February and the agreement reached was made public in March. Celtic have since carried out the work required and rangers have not.
That's it. It's as simple as that

The game at Ibrox is five months away so it’s a bit daft to throw the toys out the pram because they haven’t got it sorted yet.
Celtic should’ve allowed 3k fans in as was the agreement (which they’ve gone against) and then if Rangers didn’t for the Ibrox game then they don’t give tickets for the final game in March. Simple as that. Doubt it would’ve come to that though.

Why then have rangers board been unable to give assurances to the celtic board that safety works will be completed in time? Probably means no commitment either that ibrox itself will be ready to open by then for any fans. Instead of grumbling about celtic why don't they question their own club as to why assurances can't and clearly haven't be given ?

Celtic have met the criteria but the other half of the Glasgow derby could not give assurances that they can or will meet the safety standards. I know Rangers are a young club, less than 15 years old, and are acting like petulant children.

Simons point works theoretically, but that’s not how the SPFL operates. Ross County couldn’t fulfil a fixture twice last season because the pitch wasn’t playable, they were fined, Rangers pitch isn’t playable now and won’t be for the next few months and what did they get? They got the red carpet rolled out for them at Hampden and zero sanctions. Why would Celtic allow fans in when they now it won’t happen the other way around and there’ll be no punishment for it?

I'm a Celtic fan but I can see the difference in a club not being able to fulfill a fixture, and the situation rangers are in, they were able to give notice and it isn't sudden or abrupt. There is a big difference In this situation and the Ross county/Dundee games

The SPFL will do nothing just like they did nothing when The Rangers were fed up getting beat at Crumble Dome and spat the dummy out banning all Celtic fans. But I agree if the SPFL decide to grow a pair and act on the negligence of The Rangers for not meeting the safety measures that had been agreed then a massive fine or possible point reduction should be fully implemented. Then and only then should Celtic agree to allowing The Rangers back in. I for one want this Glasgow Derby back to being the best there is and you only get that with the fans of both clubs at the game.

So Celtic followed, now no fans at all. Both Celtic and rangers need to get a grip of themselves. To be fair it was rangers who started to ban Celtic away fans. They couldn’t take Celtic celebrating in the broomloan stand every time they come to ibrox. Rangers lapped it up when they were winning 9 in a row in the 90s, Celtic continued to let their fans get their allocation. Celtic have a period of success and the teddy bears couldn’t handle it. There's only one team in this operating at the highest level. It's a matter of safety as, in it's current state, Ibrox is not safe for 800 Celtic fans. Would be easier to have 7500 at each, however, Rangers were sick of Celtic fans having a party there twice a season

Rangers started all this, they refused to give Celtic fans tickets stating they could fill the stadium with their own fans, they they came to agreement and Celtic spent 10s thousands getting the area ready for away fans, and Rangers did nothing they agreed on. Not having away fans at the Old Firm has totally devalued the fixture. So has having very small away crowds. That visceral atmosphere - that only having a large away crowd provides - is what made that match so special. There should be at least 5,000 away fans.

Born in 85 & being a Celtic season book holder since 1995/96 season when the stadium reopened & my opinion is that this fixture just isn’t as good without the away supporters , the spectacle & colour of this once great fixture has gone but hopefully it’s sorted for the last 2 Derbys in the spring as 2.000 fans is a great amount as I can’t see it going back to pre 2018 ☘️☘️
Since rangers entered the top flight in summer of 2016:
There were 4 games at ibrox where Celtic had the full allocation of away fans. rangers record was Played 4 - W0 D0 L4
Rangers then introduced the "no away fans" (or just a few hundred) policy. Their record in the league under those circumstances is Played 9 - W4 D2 L3
There was also one season (2020/21) where no fans of either club were in the stadium and rangers' record was Played 3 - W3
So maybe they should ban their own fans also!
Think the security thing is because of the bottles thrown by the rangers fans (physio got bottled , Joe Hart found glass in the area), also the fact that they don't know if it will be Hampden (which is more than likely and is less of a security risk) or Ibrox.
think as a rangers fan its fair to criticise the board, they're not behaving like buiness men who are capable of running a football club in the best interest of the fans who lets not forget, make the club what it is. Celtic obtained planning permission and carried out the required work in relation to the away fan allocation that had been agreed with Rangers. I’m not getting this. If ibrox is not ready in time then the game goes on at Hamden . So why is health and safety an issue.
Firstly there is no longer any such thing as "The Old Firm" that died in 2012 as did Rangers FC.
The club now in existance that are The Rangers are categorically untrustworthy. Celtic have met the safety requirements. The Rangers have not and will use it for any sporting or in their case unsporting advantage they can get. The Rangers caused this and it's up to them to correct it.

Celtic are not stupid, the official bodies in Scotland are not going to sanction The rangers for their inability to meet standards. The same bodies allowed The old rangers to have an anti-catholic agenda for over 100 years. If Celtic were to give The rangers their allocation in September , then The rangers recent history suggests they would try and use that to their advantage or renege on the agreement as they have done repeatedly since their inception in 2012. Celtic are protecting their fans and their name...sometimes the adult in the room has to discipline the spoiled child to lead them to take the correct actions.
It’s tit for that pathetic mess that been going on for years football wise (my dad was a catholic season ticket holder at ibrox who had his season ticket revoked in 1983 after being reported for being a catholic) and decades prior to that filtering through Scottish culture going back hundreds of years.
