    I was in a fight in Ireland many years ago. Three skinheads came up and my buddy, my buddy pulled out nun chucks and knocked out two guys and other guy finished with a side kick. It was like a movie. I just witnessed some awesome action. You can defend your self easily. Practice practice.

    Most “ experts “ try to spin them and don’t understand them, nor are they skilled in fighting with them. I have over 45 years of martial arts trading , including impact, edged weapons and yes nunchucks. I was taught a technique of dropping 1/2 of the chucks down a Jean jacket. Sleeve,would either snap it out while opening the jacket or spin it to back someone up then strike. A trained fighter can split a head, break limbs. I could snap one of the sticks out while holding both in one hand and hit someone in the eye. They are not just demo /kata toys . They are now legal again in my state . They can be carried and concealed until needed. My favorite impact weapon is the Hanbo, next arnis/edcrima sticks but the nunchucks can be carried unobtrusively. Violent times call for skilled individuals. When. YOU are under attack, nobody gets there quicker than you

      Im curious have you tried tonfa? Hanbo is my favorite too because it is a common type object and if you can learn to control and move with a hanbo efficiently it can help with other weapons. My second favorite are escrima sticks (or blades) because like Mushashi said we have two hands haha. But I really like the tonfa! I use the PR-24 and it feels so natural to me! The way I move with a tonfa feels similar to nunchucks without the blowback. Tonfas can also be used like a escrima stick too. What makes tonfa difficult is the precise finger/wrist control it requires in actual self defense situations to block but I find it more forgiving than nunchucks. Also tonfa is great for defense where nunchucks are more offensive but that's why I practice both hehe. Hanbo, escrima, tonfa, nunchucks...

    When I was 16 yrs old my uncle and I got into a huge argument, my brother had a pair of homemade chuxs hanging on the doorknob going into my bedroom
    my uncle made a huge mistake taking a swing at me, I blocked the punch and grabbed the chuxs and cracked him on top of his head.
    His eyes rolled to the back of his head and he fell to the floor, and he was out cold he didn't know what hit him.
    He eventually woke up and apologized for trying to punch me, needles to say he never did it again...lol

    Good video. I trained with Nunchakus in my TKD classes over 30 years ago. I went out and bought a 14-inch cocobolo nunchaku with chain to practice with. In all the years I had them I used them twice in real life situations. Both times it was to stop a dog attack. The first time One strike made the vicious dog stop, the second time many years later a pit-bull was attacking a girl's (teenager) small dog. After hitting the pit twice with no results, I wrapped the nunchakus around its neck and squeezed has hard as I could (I certainly didn't want that formidable dog turning on me) and the pit-bull released the smaller dog because it started to pass out. That gave the girl time to get her dog and get out of there. I removed the nunchakus and ran back to my car while the pit-bull seemed still unsteady and confused as to what just happened. Never found out what happened to either dog because I was just driving to work when all this happened and didn't know the girl.

  • @VTPSTTU

    Thanks for the video!
    As I believe you said in another video, the primary advantage to chucks as a weapon is the ability to get the same reach in a weapon that can be stored in half the length. For concealment purposes or even just putting in a suitcase for travel, I can see the advantage there. Calling them a "trash" weapon is like calling a snub-nosed revolver a "trash" firearm because these handguns are harder to aim and don't have enough barrel length to get as much bullet acceleration.
    I can also see an advantage in changing the way a weapon works if one is limited in the strength or size of a weapon. A swinging strike with a stick of similar length to the extended chucks requires the stick to have a certain tensile strength or be a certain diameter to produce an inertia to resist the bending moment placed on the strength. (I may have used "inertia" wrong. I haven't done the actual calculations in about thirty years.) If one doesn't have a stick that can handle that stress, then changing the design to produce a different effect with more speed and more of a cutting motion is a necessity.
    I'm never going to try to learn chucks for any reason, but calling them "trash" is just putting a clickbait title on a video. Shad knows that if he'd titled his video with something that was more informative and less incendiary, he'd have gotten half as many views.

    I have never been in a fight with nunchaks either but I would feel very confident that I can crack a forearm or crack someone's skull when used properly as you have indicated. I once crushed a fly on my desk in college with a swing of the nunchaks. Obviously you can generate a lot of speed and force with a proper swing. I would rather have a pair of nunchaks for self defense than a knike or bat for sure! Thanks for your tutorial on nunchaks.

    I doubt the average person could get enough real fighting experience to be able to use them effectively. That said, if you use them, don’t swing them, just hold them together and hit like a club with them. I always think you are better off tossing them to your opponent and taking advantage of his confusion to end the fight. You have to hold your hand down far enough or the other end will bounce back and hit your hand when you strike something.

    And also when people say they are worthless, that they aren’t good for self defense and literally anything is better than nunchucks I am thinking if they are talking about a fist fight. I think metal nunchucks would hurt more than a fist and would create distance. Especially using one and your other hand free as well as your two legs I think you’re pretty powerful. I bought some and mostly see videos just teaching tricks or people saying they are trash for self defense which was kinda discouraging but I just can’t believe how nunchucks wouldn’t have benefits. But let me point out and say using the end and the nunchuck to hit is how you are SUPPOSE to strike. Also, how would someone be able to successfully grab the end as well as not get their hand hit with something moving so fast with force? It doesn’t make sense how it’s worthless in a fist fight. With any other weapon like a knife or gun would be something I wouldn’t attempt to fight against. If I had no choice with the knife and can’t run I still think nunchucks would be great if you are quick, confident and skillful with it but either way wouldn’t expect to not have slashes at the very least. Most of the situations I’ve been In were regular people who wanted to fight for any childish or nonexistent reasons.I think these are perfect, if I don’t want anyone touching me.

    Saying nunchuks are a trash weapon is like saying the old fashioned hatpin is non lethal. If you spend time working with them and get the right size and weight and material for them they can become lethal. As for the old hatpin as a weapon at one time most ladies wore their hair in buns and so they needed the hatpin to keep their bonnets or hats on their head. If a lady felt she was in danger she could run that hatpin into a man's ribs and because they were flexible they bent like the tip if a rapier if they hit bone and would go into a lung . I learned over the years even a rock in a sock could be used effectively as weapon if a person trained with it.

    Nunchakus are a good exercise tool, which will help users to develop their flexibility, aerobic fitness, and cognitive functions. However, nunchakus are not a good self defense weapon. Nunchakus are better than nothing, but there are far better self defense weapons, like a pool stick, baseball bat, or even a tool handle. This is for several reasons. For instance, when you strike with a nunchaku, it causes the nunchaku to bounce, which requires the user to immediately loop the nunchaku to bring it back under control. If you can't control the nunchaku at all times, you shouldn't want it as a weapon.
    Second, nunchakus doesn't give the long range distance advantage of longer weapons, like a pool stick or staff.
    Third, nunchakus are inconvenient to carry. You are far better off with a walking staff or cane, which might raise some eyebrows, but isn't illegal.
    I like using nunchakus for exercise, which includes twirling them vertically, horizontally, diagonally, and in figure-8 drills.
    However, they aren't good self-defense weapons because of the problem of control, lack of range as compared to other self defense weapons, and their inconvenience of carrying and illegality.

That speed check is pretty tempting as a self-defense weapon. Nunchucks or two effective for most people to use for self-defense. Almost any headshot with the nunchucks is going to be fatal. Those speed checks will break the bone under your bicep like a lightning bolt. Yes but a human being is not made out of a century bag material, a solid chuck will crush through and not bounce off a human likely, and certainly not the dummy made out of rubber that Shad was using.

    It doesn't matter where you hold it. Holding placement just give you more control smaller range less power or less control, more power longer range . It's about which part you hitting with. I should hit target with the end of sticks not middle. If you hit with the middle then they bouncing off. If hit correctly it's going through target , back under your control. Other thing none of you ''Experts'' talking about use of them in close combat . Close range. You not swinging them in close range , it should be used the same as short stick combat and unarmed combat using nun-chucks ends to stab or controlling neck limbs etc. None of those youtubers show that part as none of you know it. Let say it's similar to kali escrima techniques . Plus you can utilise chain to grab and control arms in unarmed attacks , doable against knives too, just need lot of practice . Second thing - Did any of you know that if you are true master of this weapon you can use principals of it's art to unarmed combat . All the movements and attacks from nun-chucks you can use empty handed. This kind of fighting is very efficient. I would put some videos how to do it properly but bit to old to be asked and don't want to share that part of martial art with the world really. Kids would pick this up and get in trouble. Knowledge , that I only teach to my students. Got 25 years weapons and martial arts training experience. Trained with some of the best true martial art masters in the world. I train almost every day 2h for 25 years. If you know you know. Ow yea looks like most of you confusing usage of nun-chucks in sport show for fun spiny way and actual martial art real usage for real fight and techniques that are design to kill or badly damage your aggressor ,teched by actual developers of weapon the Japanese . Would like to find some videos here to show you what I'm talking about but looks like nobody on youtube share those. Maybe on some Japanese channels. 😑

    How right you are with all these charlatans holding classes and doing videos misguiding people and calling themselves "masters" when in reality their background is 2 months training here and 3 weeks there. What I really feel sorry for, though, is their unfortunate ignorant students.

    • @pasquinilli
      @pasquinilli  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I think it’s easy to fall in love with your own story. It’s harder to stay a student and consistently find ways to learn something new and be bad at new things that challenge us and force growth or understanding. The “beginner’s mind” is often touted by martial artists as being the ideal approach to a martial life, but just like educators celebrate “lifelong learning”, it’s a lot of talk and little to no action. I fall short a lot myself too.

      @pasquinilli ... combat chaku's will be 14/16 inches long... made of heavy oak ... hexagon shape directs the force to the raised edge significantly more damage.. tapered the last 5/6 inches of the base will carry most of the weight this is the striking area of the weapon....this should not be glancing hits but full contact...training on heavybag/cloth wrapped trees ect.... all of various weight and sizes... reflection is integral part of training ... hand position will be centered...closer to the base less control ... closer to the head of the chaku less reach and increase risk of self infected strike... this guy with the stick ... the stick with break ... the chaku will relieve the force at the fulcrum point and be prepared for additional strikes ... you get my point sir ... I'm 62 yrs old and decades of training with this weapon... and 1 real world fight against a guy with a knife ... the threat was neutralize with minimal damage ....that was around 1980 or so ... train with and how you will in combat ... all I see now is a show ... fancy ... shiny ... but not very effective ... they have no understanding of the damaging this weapon can be ...

    • @Gilbertbrotherscycles
      @Gilbertbrotherscycles 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @pasquinilli for people wanting to learn the still of nunchaku...start with 12 inch... hard oak... hexagon...tapered... oil them once a week with olive oil apply a heavy coat let them sit for a hour then wipe off the excess this will slowly increase the weight ... you will be ready to move up to the 14 inch chaku's around the year mark ... follow the same process until the 3 year mark ... at this point move up to the 16 inch chaku's if you have the arm reach if not stay with the 14 inch chaku... continue to oil the chaku's once a month for the life of the chaku's... until your skill level is at a advanced novice level you can use a skate board helmet and a medical type elbow pads ... work on reflection and don't telegraph your next move with your free hand/arm keep it in a defensive position till the last moment ...work on the speed of these movements and the transition speed ... speed chaku's are fun ... but it is best to stay away from them because you with reach for them to often because they are fun and the learning curve is much less ... you will get the results that you train for .....way of no way...BL...
