Very cool technique, makes perfect sense. I wonder if EQing out a little of the ring before applying reverb to the original snare could also work, though I love how your snare ended up sounding.
Awww Love It!!! You always surprise me! Thank you Doc!!! Happy and safe holidays to you and your loved ones Doc! Thank you for another year of sharing and caring!!! Bless 😎🙏🕊️✨🎸🌋😉👼
When to use this technique vs feeding reverb from bottom snare mic only? Perhaps it would work well to combine techniques and feed verb from a tightly-gated bottom snare mic. I like it, thanks Doc. Good to add another tool to the mixing toolbox.
Bob…is EZDrummer 3 your “go-to” drum vst? I have NI Modern Drummer but don’t find it that intuitive. Have you ever compared the 2? Would you say EZD3 has better sounding drum samples? Cheers.
You could but it has a different sound than totally eliminating the ring altogether. That ring covered a wide swath of frequencies. Also if that reverb was assigned to their instruments as well it would be a problem.
I do not hear it. It just sounds like the first snare is tuned a little lower. I don’t hear the honk. I’m listening on Bose earbuds. Maybe they have some kind of honk suck out.
I get that you are trying to make a nickel and a name with this bizarre Dr persona, then pretend/try to offer something to the audio workman community, but your audio says “I’m stuck in the garage/bathroom and my wife won’t let me leave and I know so little about audio that I don’t know there is software that could correct my horrible room reverb and address my really poor mic choice and placement”.
Unfortunately you don’t understand matching sound to picture. The sound must match the video environment. Notice when the dr is in the operating room the vocal is ambient. When I’m giving the studio tutorial the vocal dries up. This is all on purpose and should be an excellent lesson for anyone that deals with audio and video. Thanks for watching.
That snare combo sounds great.
Paradoxically, this is advice that rings true. Pre- v. Post- delay makes a huge difference-literally and figuratively.
Hahaha!!! Thanks Scott!
Nice tip. Could also just put a reverb insert 100% wet on that 2nd snare to save a little processing power from using a send?
Yes that is a good concept.
@@BobbyHuff Could you make an aux track from the original snare, heavily gate that, and put the reverb on that?
wow! a very big positive difference with very little effort.. thanks Dr. Bobby
Great stuff as always
Thank u!

I’m sure eqing out the ring would help.
Such a vast improvement! Thank you for the advice.
Glad it was helpful!
Great fix. Love it.
Thanks! Glad it helped.
Great tip, Bobby! Basically a reverb trigger. Really nice, I'll use this right away.
Awesome! Let me know how it turns out.
@@BobbyHuff Will do!
That is a really tasty trick there Dr Bob. Awesome!
Glad you liked it!
Nobody loves clarity more than me. Great tip Bob. Merry Holidays to you and yours!
Thanks Tim! Happy Holidays back to you!!
Great tip as usual Dr Bob.
Thank you kindly
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOB!!!! Happy holidays my friend!! Great tip as always!
JAAAAAAAAVVV!! Thanks my friend. Happy Holidays!
You can also use a sample on parallel track to trigger the reverb. Andy Wallace has been known to do this.
Correct! That’s basically what I’ve done.
dang, way cool as always, doc. well done.
Appreciate the kind words!
Will try this for sure.
Glad to help!
Love it. Thanks
Thank u!
Happy holidays, Doc! Best wishes for an amazing 2025 and love from England👍
Thanks Paul! Love back from Tennessee!
Nice! I use your ideas a lot.
I’m glad my ideas are helping!
Maybe I should have said techniques lol. Thanks again!

Hey Owl. Thanks as always and Happy Holidays to you!!
Cool tip. Thank you.
You are most welcome!
Nicely!
Thanks!

Thanks! Give it a shot!
Yeah, try carving that ring out later!
Brutal right….!!
The Dr us in the ' House.....nice
Thank u!
Great engineering. However, is there not reverbs out there for this? The Waves has the direct/indirect function , and i guess also attack/release
Yes you can use a reverb like that but it won’t get the snare honk out of the reverb..
G E N I U S !! Great tip
Thanks!

Hey Rossco. Thanks for watching. I find that the Toontrack stuff is just incredible!
nice!
Thanks!
ok a bit like Andy Wallace’s ambient samples!
Yes!
Why can't you just eq the reverb and take the ring ressonance out?
You could but it has a different sound than totally eliminating the ring altogether. That ring covered a wide swath of frequencies. Also if that reverb was assigned to their instruments as well it would be a problem.
I do not hear it. It just sounds like the first snare is tuned a little lower. I don’t hear the honk. I’m listening on Bose earbuds. Maybe they have some kind of honk suck out.
Hahahah! Yes possibly!
Why not eq the reverb instead? 🤔
Good question 🙋♂️
ya man thats a goodn :)
Good idea. However in this example, i think the snare fit better dry. Or a shorter room verb would mix nicer. That sounded overdone.
I like the original better…use fabfilter R2, u can eq out the gong in the reverb itself.

Which software?
We’ll all wait for your masterclass
Stop interrupting the class with 🐂 💩 and pay attention.
