    Organization and setup are absolutely the two critical contributors for producing good wedding content and taking that 20-30 minutes to set it all up is worth the time. I'm sure you'll mention it in your editing series but keeping a blank project that you can copy/rename is an easy way to do that. I've found that the 3rd key contributor is time; doing the edit as soon as possible after the shoot makes it easier to remember events in order and it's such a simple way to keep your client relationship, so they're not hounding you for their product. Thanks for the video. You're doing a great job with the channel, so keep it up.

      Oh man the time thing is so true. Hard to do in peak wedding season but I always remember stuff way better if i'm editing within the first week or two after shooting!

    Cool! Dig the multicam feature! Are you able to manually sync audio when auto-syncing fails by clicking and dragging a clip to the left or right?

    • @WeddingFilmSchool
      @WeddingFilmSchool  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yah you can manually sync audio, plus you could always just line it up in the actual project timeline which is what I do sometimes for additional tracks as it's sometimes easier for me for fading things in and out

    This was so helpful, just one thing missing for me. How do I correct correct different cameras now that they are in multi cam format?

    • @WeddingFilmSchool
      @WeddingFilmSchool  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you double click the multicam clip it'll open all your cameras onto their own track

    How do you deal with exposure changes when there's sun, clouds, sun, clouds? Expose for the sun and then brighten up cloudy moments in post? Set all cameras to auto exposure?

    • @WeddingFilmSchool
      @WeddingFilmSchool  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'll usually be running around to the various cameras and adjusting them or having a second shooter adjusting as well. I don't like auto because I find it doesn't always expose how I'd like and changes too often. It's a pain but just part of the job, Usually with 3-5 cameras rolling even if I have to be constantly changing them, one camera will be exposed correctly!

      @kthx1138 ปีที่แล้ว

      @WeddingFilmSchool Thanks. What picture profile do you shoot in, log, cinelike D, standard, etc.? I like cinelike D. While not as flat, milky gray as log, it offers SOME compression of highlights and shadows for later manipulation in post, creates a really nice image right in camera, especially at night-time in dimly lit banquet halls.

    • @WeddingFilmSchool
      @WeddingFilmSchool  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I (Bobby) am typically shooting standard, cinelike is awesome as is slog3 but I often don't find myself super limited by standard and it's just an easier workflow to me

    Thank you for your video! 👌🏼 Could you tell me how to add a video to an existing multi-cam segment please? 🙏🏻

    • @WeddingFilmSchool
      @WeddingFilmSchool  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sure thing! So double click into the multicam segment then on one of the tracks or angles or whatever they are called click the little drop down arrow that's near the upper left and click add track or add angle (sorry this is off the top of my head right now). Then drag your video into that track. Then with that video highlighted click the drop down arrow on that track and click sync to main angle or something like that

    are you able to apply smoothcam to multicam clip? or do you need to go into the parent clip and apply smoothcam to the individual angle? What about transitions? Can you apply it to the multicam clip instead of only using hard cuts?

    • @WeddingFilmSchool
      @WeddingFilmSchool  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Smoothcam I think has to be the parent clip but you wouldn't want to do that. It would be applying to a long clip and unless the movement is consistently similar how it determines smooth cam for part of it might confuse it with the other parts if that makes sense? Like I'd cut that specific part out and apply smooth cam to it. You can apply transitions to a multicam

    Stopped watching once you showed you dont’t use magnetic timeline. FCP7 is a very very old editing shoftware. Magnetic timeline is amazing and very powerful. You are basically doubling your workflow and making things harder for yourself so i cant see how this helps new editors. I can edit multi cam but decided to watch because i thought i might pick up the odd tip. The way you cut to each camera angle is also silly. All you have to do is press the number key as in camera 1 will be number 1, camera 2 will be number 2 on your keyboard. So you are showing a very very slow method of doing something that is actually very quick when done correctly. Your best method is a very slow method. Doing multi cam editing correctly you can basically let it play and live cut with number keys as it plays and if you miss a cut you can go back and adjust by simply sliding the cut mark. I’d suggest watching the ripple training courses on final cut so you can show it correctly. Also forget about Final Cut Pro 7, Final Cut Pro 10 is so quick and your crippling yourself but trying to edit like fcp7 within fcpx.

      I appreciate your perspective and comment. I do use magnetic for some things (and in theory would have actually used it for this edit since it all went through one audio source) but I have always had issues with multiple audio sources in a multicam edit. Being able to fade in and out exactly where I want and occasionally having audio tracks disappear. Look I am 100% aware that utilizing the magnetic timeline can cut down my time even more, but outside of a handful of scenarios I am comfortable using it, it has caused me more headaches than help. I am up front with people that using that would be quicker....it's literally my pinned comment at the top. I am not describing myself as the best editor in the world, or that I am certified in a program or anything like that, but this content can still be helpful to many. Anyways, I appreciate the tip about the numbers too, I can't believe I had never put that together, will definitely shave a bit of time off with that! We are ALL always learning, myself included and I have no shame in admitting that. This is a community to learn and grow together and I can benefit from that as well!

      Wedding Film School if audio would drift then multi came is flawed and unusable. I own fcpx since day one of release and have payed for all the ripple training courses. Their were updates to it over the last few years I may have missed but other than that I’m up to speed. I just feel that suggesting this is a quick workflow is not true and you also mentioned fades etc. this is easily done by selecting the clip sectioned and “the expanding audio components” where you can do more work. I edit between 4 and 6 audio channels with 3 to 4 video angles per wedding ceremony and audio has never slipped. If it slipped then I’d never use it. You can also have the inspector open while editing and select audio channels on and off while working. Playing and hitting number keys is by far the fastest way of working within multicam. Magnetic timeline is the best thing about working in fcpx and once you figure out how to use it with keyboard short cuts for angles and also keyboard short cuts for cutting+deleting start or end of a clip your workflow is extremely fast. I will add that your new TH-cam posts have been top class but I’m afraid this one is a fail. Your workflow here just means the whole concept of using fcpx is useless to you and you might as well be using premier

      @@HouseofRen Hello. I'm an Adobe Premiere pro user. But I'd like to learn FCPX. This tutorial was helpful for me. Premiere Pro doesn't have the magnetic timeline. If it's possible, I would love to see a tutorial from you on how you do a Multicam Edit (Wedding). I'm not being disrespectful here. I truly would love to see another way of doing this. Other videos I've watched does not cover what this "Wedding Film School" video has covered and I felt he did a great job putting this together. I have mad respect to all wedding film makers out there. Its not easy work, but very rewarding.

      Ro Reyes Media Hey. I am not much of a TH-camr. What I’d suggest is to look up ripple training website. They cover this topic in full. The multi cam feature in FCPX is extremely powerful

    • @WeddingFilmSchool

      I never saw this but in any case, I never experienced audio drift. I experienced difficulty moving to other tracks without hard cuts, or more work than I had to do this way to fade them out properly, and tracks disappearing. I've used the expand audio and had issues there too, don't quite remember but It was a long time ago that I tried to learn it, I'm sure it's gotten much better and consistent but I can bust out edits pretty damn fast for this kind of thing so for now I'm content. Maybe an off season (if that ever happens for me) thing to do! Also the number one reason to use fcpx instead of premier is that there aren't endless bugs and crashes haha. Though ultimately anyone should be working in what they are most comfortable in, even if they don't utilize it to it's fullest potential
