so cool that they got Casey to perform here! Not often do we see the composers actually perform, but also he's a cool human/devil being for composing this and bury the light.
Watching this after seeing Casey Edwards' recent stream talking about the situation puts it in a different light. For those who didn't see it, Casey (the composer and the guitarist at 2:00) and Ali Edwards (the female singer onstage) explained what goes behind live performances and a lot of behind-the-scenes chaos. Ali couldn't hear herself or her bandmates (which didn't happen during rehearsal), so she was in a pretty awkward position on the spot. Unlike crews like those of Foo Fighters or Taylor Swift who travel with them and know their mixes in-n-out, the audio team at TGA have to work with several acts, an onstage orchestra, presenters, and different mixes all in real-time. Essentially they're given a bunch of different shows with little prep time and told to figure it out on their own, which is why Casey didn't want to pin too much blame on the TGA audio team. Casey was spending the hour before the show putting out fires and Ali was freaking out a bit since she wasn't used to ginormous crowds focusing on her. To end on a good note though, Ali said she was very thankful for the people in the crowd who sang along and knew the lines (which she didn't expect) because they helped calm her nerves and let her have fun.
Ali sounds exactly like she does in the recording. She hit all the notes perfectly, backed up with excellent frontwoman energy and didnt miss a single cue. Shes an excellent singer and a proffesional performer. The mix, however was shitty. Like, really bad

Well, reading this comment section just make me realize how little I know about music and live performances. I thought this was absolutely awesome. Sold me in a song that I was aware existed but wasn't really engaged in it. Yeah, the recorded version sounds 'better"; this was still great in my eyes; and I love that Geoff and his crew got to make this performance happen.
First time doing a live version of this song and people complain it does not sound 100% like the videoclip. As a musician I was surprised at the performance, everyone that has put a foot on a stage knows that live recordings never sounds the same in the end result and these things need mastering, this could've gone much worse yet they did an incredible job even when mixing the live music with background effects and chorus (which I find logic for all reasons) it got the job well done if you consider the little time they probably got for rehearsals.
don't tell them that, also as a musician like you they wont understand that no matter how you explain it they are to focused on their auto-tuned songs being also played live with auto-tuner. they'll never understand it.
Nice to see someone defending this performance. I had know of the song but never listened the whole thing until that night and I thought it sounded awesome. Of course is not the same as the recorded one, but it was a good performance.

Guys, the girl was NOT lipsyncing. But I can see where the misunderstanding is coming from so I'll explain. It's called "self-backing vocals". You sometimes see your typical vocalist in the back with their own mics and repeating chorus words or singing the "ooohs" and "aahs". Vocalists are basically support singers who add more oomph to the singing. In this case, the girl here (I'm assuming is the band's main singer) used herself to do the vocals. For example, you know the parts "don't be slow" and "time to go" sound like there are two people singing at the same time? That's the main singing with the backing vocals added. So the girl was indeed singing live but she was also playing her prerecorded backing vocal track because it's impossible for the singer to sing both the main part and the vocals *simultaneously*. This is called "The Chorus of One" trope. This is a common trick singers do in live performances. As an example, listen to Halsey's "Without Me" and then listen to it live. Plus, you can hear the girl's sharp intakes of breath sometimes throughout this performance here (like in 1:38, 1:50, 2:22). Also, at 3:29, she uses a vibrato vocal technique for "Oveeeer" but, in the official studio version, that specific part doesn't have that vibrato. In the end, it seems it's just up to one's perspective.
You explained it perfectly!! If you have heard the song you will know that is NOT playback cuz it sounds different here in live specially the way she raised her voice, it was confusing in the chorus but it's not that hard to note the differences.
@@takuma8974 Like I said, it's a prerecorded track mixed into the live performance. You don't mute/stop the track for certain bits; the backing track plays for the whole performance. She stopped singing at that part to let the audience join and let the track play over her. There are several instances from her performance that you can tell is different from the original audio. The OG song had the dude’s voice compressed and autotuned to heck and back. Without all the filters, I can believe that’s how he would sound 😂
Casey Edwards (the maker of the song) mention in a podcast how the guy got sick like 2 days before the event, he like kept drinking warm teas and taking like throat medicine, but it was just like REALLY unlucky timing.
@@internetrules8522 Whoa, that sucks. I’m glad he got his voice together enough to at least get the metal scream off, pulling that off while very much under the weather is hella dope 😎
@@boomkruncher325zzshred5 everyone still making fun of him

Man we need a performance where both Ali and Victor would perform live. So long as they're comfortable with it of course
I remember watching this live like this is cool but i wish theyd get to the new game trailers already. Its only after beating DMCV last night do i realize they were actually preforming the greatest video game song ever made :’)
That chick was on SSS style mode !

Embrace the darkness that consumes me, nobody save you and there is no way out lml.
God damn Shes so cool!!!
This performance was better than I expected. They can still perform without any effects.
*Everyone*- Bashes the male lead
*Me*- I'm sure it isn't that bad!!....... Oh....
Devil may cry 5 is going to be one the greatest stylistically John Woo es bad ass sword swinging action games ever made!
Yeah, you can say that
The drummer is having the time of his life, go on mate!
I've got to say; that's quite a dedication for a video game. I mean I know it does happen here and there, but still pretty rare.
“we are about to summon some dark spirits”
I heavily enjoyed the performance, but I'm jealous of the people who saw it live, because from the videos I saw posted from the audience, the sound mix was 100000000 times better than what people heard on the livestream!
When you Metal Cover your own Darkwave Album.
at least the dude tried, you gotta respect that
Casey a real one for shredding on the guitar lol
1:33: Looking at this part, you can see the male vocalist leaving the stage waving to the audience, probably because of the microphone.
@Sheldon Julius oh, i understand now
