This is one of the most informative "no nonsense" videos on the topic I've seen --without a doubt.

Thank you for that comment. It took me quite sometime to put that transcript together which is likely why compared to if I had presented without it.

Thank you for creating this content. I am working on building a prototype system currently and your content is helpful.

Glad it was helpful! I should do a follow up video and discuss how the system has functioned since we put it together and some of the small tweak and management actions we’ve made. It’s still going well.

the explanation is very good and undestandable, despite presence of some technical words. my only request is to remove or lessen the background music next time. thanks.

What an awesome video! Just had to drop a like and subscribe - your content is seriously helpful.
I've been tinkering with Aquaponics on a small scale for quite some time. Always felt that the initial UVI models were a tad limited, particularly with their coupled nature and the use of Tilapia. Don't get me wrong, I'm a big fan of Tilapia, but from a commercial viewpoint, they aren't the top choice here in the U.S.
In your slides, I think I spotted Sturgeon and a species of trout. You mentioned the fish were essentially playing second fiddle to the main show, just there to produce fertilizer. But say we flipped that script and put the spotlight on the fish - what are your thoughts on using Sturgeon and trout for that purpose? Really curious to hear your perspective.

You can always use any farmed fish. The reality is you need so little fish to grow vegetables so any fish farming operation could likely support many greenhouses. We used sturgeon for awhile but they just got too big for us and the temp in my facility gets so hot in the summer that I am always panicking so we moved to carp. Trout are fine too but the water quality in aquaponics, unless decoupled, isnt approrpiate and then you are likely needing to heat your water. Obviously that depends on your crops. An update to this video is coming out soon. Thank you for the kind words.

Great introductory video! I really appreciated the cost and time savings ideas your system showed, like whether to use pressure or gravity for water flow, uniseals or bulkhead fittings to seal pipes, and many other small but hugely helpful details. My only caution is that the picture of a paddlewheel aerator at timepoint 3:52, illustrating aeration, might have illustrated the opposite. As Claude Boyd warned, in ponds with heavy algae growth, DO can become supersaturated in the afternoon of long summer days, then paddlewheel agitation causes the supersaturated water to equilibrate with the air by off-gassing oxygen. Not all supersaturated gasses are bad!

Valid point about the aerator. This was filmed in the desert of California. What we find is that on cloudy days we really need those aerators moving. The water has a lot of silt in it as Colorado river water. I was just using that film as another example of aeration. This video was originally almost 20 minutes. There was a lot more about the flexibility of plumbing between tanks with uniseals, pumps, filters…it is already dense!

This background music is a disturbance. This is an instructional video that needs to be delivered in very clear audio. The music disturbance distorts the speech of the instructor.
