I love it when bands change their style. Only, when it is a commercial decision, it really upsets me... The style they moved towards, is definately a safer more lucrative approach. As is clearly displayed by the excessive number of successful, famous bands that fall under that same genre: metalcore. Besides, if it were merely a sonic change, I would fully respect their decision; no matter what genre they gravitated towards. BUT, along with their sound came a very sudden aesthetic change, going from an unappealing one, to a very pleasing, and "easy to look at" appeal. Much like teen pop stars, that must maintain an appearance to cater to broad audiences. So don't come with this bullshit "bands change their sound" talk to me, it wasn't JUST a sound change. It was a completely change to the PERSONALITY of the band. And typically in my experience when bands change their sound, their true self, their personality, remains consistent.
