In my experience of listening to Christian preachers and teachers, there is no one else like Dallas Willard. He stands alone at the pinnacle of knowledge and wisdom in the Christian faith, at least to me.
I was thinking the same thing. But if I heard him 20 years ago I would have not understood. But now at 48 it's just what I need. But more in line to what you say I used to say in heaven I wanted to see Jesus first then Paul now I have to add one more 3rd will be Dallas. He is helping me get utterly saved. I don't know what to say about his books it's so beyond. Ppl get excited over Jordan Peterson I know Dallas is the one they should be getting excited abt.
Lynne, Dallas makes the point that Jesus' main preaching theme was the Kingdom of God. He not only preached it, He manifested it and demonstrated it. In Matthew, we read him speaking of "the kingdom of heaven" (Mt. 4:17, 5:3, etc.) In the original language, heaven is plural (ouranos). The correct translation is "the kingdom of the heavens." So what? There are three heavens: our earthly atmosphere, outer space, and what we think of as heaven, the place we go to when we die, the place filled with angels where God rules, speaks, moves and accomplishes His will. When Jesus was preaching, "Repent, for the kingdom of the heavens is at hand," (Mt. 4:17), He was announcing that the kingdom of God was not a far off place we go to when we die, but that it was breaking into our heavens and available to everyone everywhere. God is ready to move, speak, rule and accomplish His will through us in our little space. DWM
I love the DWM reply. Dallas also explains it further in the Divine Conspiracy, where he says that we could interpret the Lord's prayer's 'our father in heaven' as 'our father who's as close as the air around us.' I bask in that thought.
Powerful ...wonderful! I found Willards book on my bookshelf today. Sharing with my family! ❤

Why does Dallas talk about, 'The Kingdom of THE Heavens?' I've never heard the word heaven pluralized that way.
