Rest in peace, Shane...I can honestly say that your music and your poetry changed my whole life for the better.
My entire soul has been shaken. His poetry and their music changed and shaped my world as well. I cried watching this video, this youth, this music. I miss being young. Thank you for the music.
Покойся с миром, Шейн.
RIP Shane ❤
I couldn't have said it any better.
RIP
I live in a small town in Italy and Shane and the Pogues, believe me, meant a lot to me when I was in my twenties, even if I didn't perfectly understand the words. Rest in peace.
Grande. Io li ho visti a Milano , primi anni 90. E a Correggio, un paese vicino Reggio Emilia, pochi anni dopo. Grande Shane. Un vero Poeta.
Un abbraccio !!
Maybe you understand being a catholic? Anyways love to you from Ireland 🇮🇪 ☘️
Ups Too Shainr. Wherever you come from,
😂Even if you didn't understand the words is funny and sweet.
There's so many different Celtic dialects I know exactly what you mean, thanks for the laff.
This is the first time I hear of The Pogues and I think they were great.
"This land was always ours, was the proud land of our fathers. It belongs to us and them and not to any of the others." Such a proper and most righteous statement for anyone indigenous to land occupied by others.
I agree.
Best wishes IRISh people frem freindly Indopenet Republic off Croatia..
SHANE is... Uff 👍
Until they all get SAG cards and billions in reparations, then it's sort of moot :)
So, Europe?
There are many european and north american nations that need to do what holland and argentina just did. Elect a libertarian , communist hating , economist.
Rest In Power . Shane MacGowan.❤
Just want to drop in and say: The year is 2023 and Shane Macgowan is still alive. I appreciate everything he and the boys have done. Love from Florida.
Edit: RIP to ya Shane. Forever a legend. And everyone saying "didn't age well haha" is that what ya do, go around laughing at people who've died? Fuck off
And even more amazing; his teeth aren't ****ed up any more.
💚☘️
Claro amigo. Love from Portugal
Good man yourself
Merci à M. Shane Macgowan pour l’ensemble de son œuvre. Bonjour à tous de France 🇫🇷
Shane was a musical genius. The concept of mixing punk with traditional Irish music was brilliant. He more than a musician he was a poet.
Yes, Shane Mcgowan eas fantastic. Nothing else to say. 🎶🎵♩🎵🎶
RIP Shane MacGowen, you were an amazing songwriter and frontman. I am grateful for having had the privilege of seeing The Pogues live in the early '90's. There you were in all your glory, with your bottle of whisky in hand, getting harder and harder to understand as the night wore on, and i loved every second of it. Fly high, sir, away from the pain and troubles of this world, to the next.
Beautifully put ❤
Hinreißend gesagt , wir werden Dich nie vergessen, Shane !
I love
VERY song !!!!!!!
It's great when people ' get him'.
@@flossyfewclothes6872indeed!!!
My dad passed away on 9 December. This song is going to be played at his funeral. He loved The Pogues.
God Bless
Sorry to hear that.
He and Shane died nine days apart.

That 2nd verse is the most beautiful thing ever written!
This land was always ours
It was the proud land of our fathers
It belongs to us and them
Not to any of the others
RIP Shane, I love you!
Shane MacGowan. The tradition of wild Irish music might have been lost without him. Thank you for carrying that sacred flame. The bards and balladeers of old Ireland will be there to greet you and they’ll say “well done.”
Fantastic comment!
Such a moving and true comment !
Well said
Really? Will they? Did they tell you? And this is what they'll say too? 😂😂
RIP Shane. A legend who has left us with a wonderful musical legacy. May angels speed you to your rest xx
Pogues deserve the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame and this is possibly the best song ever written .
They would not give a damn.
Right?! Awesome lyrics yet again!
TRUTH
Almost every song from the pouges is the greatest song ever written!!!
Well they put rappers in there no so it dont mean shit anymore
"Let me go, boys, let me go, boys
Let me go down in the mud, where the rivers all run dry" - Good bye, Legend 🙏
He made it longer than I thought he would, but not nearly as long as I wished he did… Farewell Shane, you will be sorely missed.
R.I.P Shane . Not ashamed to say i have shed many tears today. One of greatest song writers ever and the whole band were just so damn good. Thank you for all you gave us

Shane was no shame, everlasting song for the immortals. Thank you.
went to see the Pogues years ago and though Shane initially looked like he wasnt even going to be able to make it onto the stage he came on and the performance of the band was perhaps the finest concert i have ever been to- what an amazing group of musicians
Shane, you're loved, respected and admired by so many. Your legacy will live forever.
I must confess that I cried. RIP great Shane. Love from Lombardy, Italy
Perhaps his true brilliance will only be recognised in death.
RIP Shane, you music was a beacon for so many lost souls, thank you ❤️
How about the Pogues into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame?
And/or Country Music Hall of Fame!
@@rtaviner lol I doubt a punk rock band would make it into the country hall of fame
@@joshuas637
The Pogues are Irish punk but they have a huge underlying country vibe. Celtic Country but Country nonetheless.
@@rtaviner Muricans wouldn't have it, not their type of country music*
*Country music has fallen from from its roots, Grace. I am seriously confused by it anymore, not my Da's country(be rolling in his grave, if I'd buried him😉😃).
@kent Mcquillen yes!
A song about death sung by an alcoholic is one of the most positive songs ever made xx
Tears are falling today. Bless and thank you dear Mr. Macgowan. ❤️❤️❤️
A pure poet for the working class man thanks for the music and poetry and memories and rest in peace legend 🇮🇪☘️💚
One of the greatest nights of my life(musically) seeing these guys at St Andrew’s Hall in Detroit in 1994ish….Gave whole new meaning to the term “Hooley”. Positively Dionysian….🙏🎼☘️🎭🍺
I should fall from grace with God
Where no doctor can relieve me
If I'm buried 'neath the sod
But the angels won't receive me
Let me go, boys
Let me go, boys
Let me go down in the mud
Where the rivers all run dry
This land was always ours
Was the proud land of our fathers
It belongs to us and them
Not to any of the others
Let them go, boys
Let them go, boys
Let them go down in the mud
Where the rivers all run dry
Bury me at sea
Where no murdered ghost can haunt me
If I rock upon the waves
No corpse shall lie upon me
Coming up threes, boys
Coming up threes, boys
Let them go down in the mud
Where the rivers all run dry
If I should fall from grace with God
Where no doctor can relieve me
If I'm buried 'neath the sod
So the angels won't receive me
Let me go, boys
Let me go, boys
Let me go down in the mud
Where the rivers all run dry
Thanks man. Always wondered what they were saying. I love the groove, never could understand the words.

Every time I listen to this I can hear the pain, the whisky and the voices of my ancestors singing along. #RIPShane this is what truth sounds like. Prayers from Jamaica 🇯🇲 & May you be in heaven before the devil knows you’re dead.
Still bad ass after all these years!
He earned his unique place in the pantheon of great Irish writers.

Spider and Shane, both in their prime! Music doesn't get much better than this; one of the best bands of all time!

The sheer energy emanating from this performance is surreal. I'm sad that I never saw them live, but my how thankful am I to see these videos today. Ladies and gentleman, The Pogues!
Saw them live in mid80s in a small venue. Was amazing!

Cheers from France beloved Irish people
Rest in peace Shane MacGowan; you are remembered well on this St. Patty's Day!
A hint of bluegrass in this fantastic Irish tune, Shane the Shaman on the mike, the other lads playing their hearts out, and the crowd bouncing around the floor as one......the only thing I can say is....WHY WASN'T I THERE!!!! Love from the Finger Lakes, NY State.
I think Scots Irish music is where we get bluegrass. We just refined it here in the US
@@michaelmcknight8419 I think Shane took a little of the bluegrass and brought it back across to Old Erin in this one. I love bluegrass, but the problem with American country music is....THEY FORGOT THE FLUTES AND WHISTLES! I think that Calvinist thing made them think that the flute was Satan's instrument......
I think you're right. The flutes and whistles went into drum and bugle/military march tunes, which had a big influence on Celt and prison work songs and blues music. A lot of Scandinavian / Appalachian influence was in country music, too. Shane definitely assembled his influences historically. But god, did that man sing it from the soul and the blood. ❣@@joemarshall4226
Shane fait partie de mon âme depuis la première fois que l'ai entendu en 2008 à Dublin!!
Il a un air de "Gainsbourg" Irlandais que j'adore. Un grand poète s'en est allé... une légende! RIP as you deserve Shane, so great singer you were, thank you for having been ever yourself!!!
Gainsbourg is a great comparison. A man whose force of love and being and energy was always going to be too strong for mere sanity.
Music won't be the same without Shane, Very few musicians had the skill and creativity, RIP
APART FROM ABOUT A THOUSAND OTHERS
The man was a poet. Poets are rare. A few every generation. He's gone home now. ❤
I had never heard of Shane until his funeral was posted on TH-cam. I find myself captivated by him.
This was the first Poques song I ever heard and it has always stuck with me.
I can listen to this song three times in a row. or more. And it never gets old.
A night of guinness, jameson, some of that great "irish kush", and the pogues, perfect night!

By far one of the best songs ever written. God bless you Shane.

There was so much amazing music in the early 80's. The first time a freind made me listen to this in '82, all I could say was " holy shit"!!!!
Hah I was born in 1982! But still had your exact reaction when I discovered this yesterday from a Qxir video lol
R.l.P. Shane, you were true legend and poet I was raised with your songs from childhood until now when I'm 40 😢

How many good nights out did we all have with the Pogues playing in the background, RIP Shane.
One the best songs ever written , Joe Strummer loved it , Rest in peace Shane and Joe .☘️☘️☘️
There's no band like them, plenty have tried to replicate their sound, all have failed. Possibly one of the greatest live bands of all time. Impossibly catchy music that makes people who can't dance want to get up and dance until they drop. Along with Roy Keane and Guiness they are Irelands greatest export. Ladies and Gentlemen I give you, The Pogues
Damned right!! 👍
the pogues are an English band who play Irish music, they are however, brilliant, and as good as keane is he is no George Best ;) Add Hop House Lager along with guiness
Always liked them. I have Tu.rnesd-a lot of folks on to them wife joyce went to Ireland land a few months back !chuck
London Irish ☘️..
Well said☘️🚬🥂
Saw them once. Only time I've been scared at a gig. Early 20s, and the place packed with lads of around 40 out to relive their youth with drink and madness. It was mayhem. It was magic. Oíche mhaith a chara, codladh sámh x❤
This really does take me back to them nights as a kid in the pub at all the family parties till the early hours of the morning playing with all the kids in the car park while our parents were getting shitfaced inside. It sounds bad but were some of the best nights of my life. I miss it so much. Glad to have been brought up around the Irish 💚🧡
And your kids? Out in the car park? Not a snarky question, but real.
Rest in power, Shane. Thank you. Thank you all.
What a wonderful music. Listened to this while at college for months. Shane's death brought the wish to listen to it again back and reminded me how good Pogues were.
Beautiful tribute to Ireland!
As an American with a lot of Irish in me pogues make me proud to have so much irish heritage
I saw these guys live in 1989-in Boston
magical show
So Sean didn't fall off the stage due to drunkenness 45 minutes into the show like he did in Chicago? And the show wasn't then cancelled?
This song sums up St Patrick's days of my misspent youth! Happy St Patrick's day to all.
Happy st paddy's
The first three Pogues albums are phenomenal. We're talking all-time great.
And the Drop kick Murphy's took.over
@@padraigsisk4057 Flogging Molly actually!!
That'd be "Rum, Sodomy," "Red Roses" and "If I Should Fall," am I right? I agree with you wholeheartedly on those: "Peace and Love" is very good, but not in their class.
RIP Shane mc gown now playing music for angels and god
I my hard driving party days I had to eventually lock this album away. If I put this on when I came in from the bar half toasted it always meant playing it on repeat until the sun came up. My liver eventually told me to cut it out! RIP Shane. A piece of divine light made human 🙏🌹
One of the best songs ever recorded.
I saw The Pogues live more than another band by quite some margin. Mostly in London, but also in Germany, Dublin, New York and several UK venues. St Paddy's Day 1985 was mental at the T&C.
A unique band with great characters.
I du love the pouges
,kun gode minner❤️Memory for e-verk,and ever
Saw them in tipp actually drank with Shane in a thurles bar
Lived my whole life in Alabama, saw The Pogues on this tour in Birmingham. Shane was one of the two drunkest performers I ever saw, I guess tied with the first time I saw Paul Westerberg with The Replacements, and yet they both completely delivered great performances. I'm surprised he made it this long. Anyway, an amazing songwriter. Hit every emotional note. This remains one of my all-time favorite albums. I think The Broad Majestic Shannon is my absolute favorite. I would be fine if they played that when I was dying myself, but I doubt anyone will think to do it.
RIP, Shane MacGowan. 🙏🙏🙏💕 Thank you for the awesome music. We’re listening to your music & remembering you today in Vienna, Austria. 🇦🇹
Wonderful Pogues! Best band ever. RIP Phil.
RIP Darryl.
What a marvellous song with such energy. Absolurely Irish soul song !!!
Heaven is Shane going "Yeeeooowwwww" to ya as you walk in to the grace of himself up above
We were in the pubs on a Friday Saturday night playing this on the video music machine. It was absolute gold and still is 30 years later.
Happy St. Patrick's Day 2022! ☘ 🇮🇪 🍀
Beautiful music and vocals shane and the pouges rest in peace shane ❤
Shane knows how to write a song!! 🎶💚
When I was between 18 and 21 I use to go to the pub few times a week, I use to leave house between 6 and 7 pm walking downtown for 30min to meet my friends and drink a few beers ( a lot actually )
On the road I always listen to this album, the first tracks make me full of energy and enthusiasm. I indeed stop my music as I was sharing a good moment with my friends, and play the second part of the album as I was goin back home.
For those who know, the second part is not as energic as the begining, there's some balads and sad songs and I was staggering on these sweet last songs on my way back
And every damn time, as I was staggering, I remembered that line from "A Pair of Brown Eyes" when he said "Sometimes crawling, sometimes walking".
Feelin' really concerned back then lmao
Anyway, love this album, maybe a few people will recognize themselfe in my comment, I'll be glad not to be the only one
Now that was a great short...thanks for sharing
It's one of "those" albums. The ones that hit real hard personally...
☘️🚬🥂
RIP Shane MacGowan...I'm afraid God and the angels will find you wherever your soul may be. May the unquenchable thirst be found.
A unique voice and a great song writer. RIP Shane.

Loved it ever since I heard it in a commercial & then tracked it down.
it‘s my fear killer.
My favourite Pogues song. Rest in peace Shane.
Rest In Paradise Shane. Job well done lad! 💔👍
I saw the Pogues in The Concert Hall, a former Masonic hall, in Toronto when they were touring for this album. Great concert, the band were fantastic, and the venue was licensed! Beer at a Pogues concert? Need I say more? 🇨🇦🖖🏻🇨🇦
The Pogues are the best and Shane McGowan’s teeth are part of the legend. Shane’s growly voice has shades of Leonard Cohen and his sound is at times reminiscent of Mongolian chest singing.
Shane got his teeth fixed. They made a documentary of it on bbc4. The lad being a National Treasure and all.
Pogues Mahone!
A classic of my college years. May you and God sort it out amicably lol. RIP THE GREAT SHANE!!
I saw this great London Irish band just the once - in 1989 at the Town and Country in Kentish Town.
RIP SHANER. Not many people can abuse their body as much as you did and live to 65. :D
