Kyper is right. Woll needed a real challenge to build his confidence and reassure the fan base that he's still... the Great Woll of Toronto. No matter how many games Stolarz wins or plays. Woll needs to get into the net and face real challenges. Plus some coaches prefer to play backup goalies against stronger opponents to not burn out the starter or threaten their confidence.

Backlund is the guy on the Flames that eats the hard minutes against the top lines, not Kadri. Backlund goes so under the radar for what he did. Same thing when Lindholm was on the team - Backlund went up against the top lines, but Lindholm got all the Selke love that one year. Backlund is one of the NHL's top defensive players.

There is no way you actually thought Samsonov would play against the Leafs? Did you forget last season? He would specifically not play against Washingto, his former team cause he is soft. What makes you think he will change and play a former team now? Give it a few years and he will have 6 or 7 teams that he won't be able to play against haha
Cry Baby McKee. Woll is not the back up. Looking at the schedule thru the entire season the plan was always that the goalies be in rotation as Berube mentioned a few weeks back. They just finished two 4 games in 6 night sets and expect more of that same pace after this 2 week lull. They both need to be playing.
