The roar intro was great. Park rangers or docents are a great resource. Kind of like a cattle ranch with the pens. Amazing childhood to bachelor story. Life would have been a bit harder before those gloves were available. Enjoyed the tour and learning about the reintroduction of bison. Awesome roar of an ending👍
Hi Donna really enjoyed the tour it a bit sad at beginning so glad to hear they trying to save and help bison to care for them looking forward to see them return in the future 🦬🦬🦬🦬 full view 13:45 👏♥️👍🏼 hope you have a great day much love❣️😄
Interesting to learn about. Fun and informative tour with a very knowledgeable ranger too. That is cool that you could record the tour. Funny about the glove! Take care and have a great day.
That bison backstage tour looked great Donna and so good that it was included with the park fee 🙂So unique, I would really like to do that and great the work that is being done with them :) 5 years is a long time to round up the bison ! ~ Anna
It is unforgivable that an animal that sustained a nation was all but wiped out by greed and ignorance . Thanks for filming. What a magnificent animal 🙏👍
Well said, their loss would have been a tragedy for the whole world. I'm very glad the bison have been saved as a species and can roam in National Parks.
The roar was pretty good, Donna! 🤣🤣Not quite the same, but it would scare me! 3 months, 5 years? Love a guy that meets a deadline! Fun and informative tour and it's great to hear their population is increasing. Thanks for bringing us along.
Well, good thing dealing with the government back then is about the same now. Good thing for the bison, too! It's so awesome hearing about places all across North America that have bison again. It's too bad they can't roam completely free but the thought of them blocking highways or invading cities would make a great apocalyptic plot for a movie.
I enjoyed your video and the tour so much Donna. An excellent way to learn the history of bison in the area and see what is needed to help and keep their population strong. I was also happy to hear the guides explanation about returning bison back to the stewardship of Indigenous peoples and to also learn that bison are a keystone species. Thanks very much for sharing the tour. Best regards, Cathy
It really is a great tour and great intro to the park's work as well. The bison wallows seem like just bits of erosion caused by them but seeing the water collecting and plants growing in them makes you realize they are mini-ecosystems. They really are an amazing animal.
A new awakening happening and that can only be applauded. Putting wrongs to rights doesn't change the past but does change our future. A very informative and interesting video Donna. Thank you. 👌🇳🇱🙋♀🥝
This was so educational I learned so much about the bison and how they are being reintroduced back to the indigenous people...such a sad thing how torcherous people can be to any animal and blame it on ignorance ...I can remember driving to a certain area in Utah where there were bison and you could watch them in the fields...every so often they would be close to the fence they had such sad eyes...
Hi Donna! Thank you so much for the lovely comment. It is truly saddening what happened to the bison but good to hear they are being returned to the lands they once roamed. And good point about their eyes, they really can look sad. I like to imagine animals have their own legends about times in the past, just like humans.
I really appreciated how she explained that section very well. I should visit Metis Crossing again and hopefully see the white bison. Thanks so much, Stephen!
Excellent tour Donna! I'm thrilled to learn that the Bison are doing so well and increasing their numbers each year. I'm also happy to learn that they are being re-patriated to First Nations People and lands. I've seen that they are able to do that a bit here in the US too. The history of the killing of the plains bison is so terrible and sad... it's going to take a long time, but they'll come back as they are meant to be. 👌❤❤
A welcoming roaaaarrrrr!!! 😀 Great start to the tour! I'm glad there are plans in place to protect and save the Bison. Good to hear they are being reintroduced to the lands and people of the First-Nations. Very interesting, Donna. Thank you ❤
The roar was a lot of fun, although I think I just giggled my way through it. The kids really got into it though. It was great to hear how they are helping with Indigenous reconciliation in their a great way.
Thanks for taking us along on the bison backstage tour. Very nice educational tour. Interesting to see all of the bones and that very large machine. Also, great bison roars. I have never seen a bison in person before.
Pretty good bison roar! This was very interesting. I dont think I would have guessed that the glove was for pregnancy checks. I'm glad to hear the bison are doing well and being reintroduced more places.
Excellent bison roars 😅 I can imagine the bison furs were highly prized in the cold winters in Europe. That's cool they stick with their buddies - humans could learn from bison! Great to hear the population is increasing despite the increase of bears! Wow, that's a large glove, and I can kinda understand why 🤣 enjoyed the roar at the end too, great video!
I love the tour learning about the bisons. It was neat to see all the antlers on display. My hubby found a deer antler as we were hiking. It’s good to know the bison can enjoy the land out there and not worry about many predators. Great video Donna. 👍😊🇨🇦
Well I couldn’t tell the difference in the roars Donna 😃👍 Fascinating tour, must have been amazing to see the history Humans were crazy and are still crazy! 😨 An absolutely fascinating talk - learned so much from this. Bachelor herds and Matriarchal herds are a bit like the wild deer herds over here. Amazing how quickly the numbers grow Interesting that Black Bears are also growing in numbers. A Bison weighing room!! Who knew? Incredible. Isn’t it great that Elk Island are helping increase the species across North America. What a fantastic facility that is, and how cool that you can visit and get these tours. Mesmerised watching this one Donna. Hope you guys have a great weekend 👍😃
Hi Dave & Sue! The weighing room was a new one, too. I figured it would have been like the ones they use for cattle and just clamp around the neck. The number of switches on that machine was pretty amazing and I was a little nervous even being around it. I keep hearing the numbers of black bears are increasing, but we've never seen one...yet! It really was a fascinating tour to be on. Thanks so much for watching!
Very beautiful and this is a great tour very informative. Wow, really sad to see a bunch of skull's picture from the first. Look like everyone enjoyed the tour. Nice.
The image of the skulls shows how devastating the bison slaughter was. This really was a great tour and it's good how the bison populations are recovering and can be seen in many places across North America now. Unfortunately they cannot roam free like they once did, but at least they are around.
What a fascinating and very educational video. Although I wasn't keen on the image hanging above those three skulls near the beginning, quite disturbing.
And that's why it is there, to show how many bison were killed all at once. I'm very glad that human values have changed since then. Thank you so much for watching, Jay!
In a finally spur of the moment trip we camped both Grasslands blocks, visited Head-smashed in and then up to Elk Island. We were at Elk Island this past week, Saturday definitely got busy around noon ( holiday weekend) and we had to get back on the road. We stopped by Mundare on the way back down to Medicine Hat. I forgot to reach out to you to "in person" buy you a tea as I'm not sure how far you are away from Elk Island. Hopefully be back up earlier next year.
It sounds like you had a wonderful trip! Thank you so much for the update and no worries, I'll take a raincheck on the tea - I live in Edmonton so not far away from Elk Island. Cheers!
Island National park...oh yes nice walking tour

It is VERY fitting and good that the First Nations are being given back these majestic animals
They know the animals values

This was a great educational tour about bison, and it's amazing to know that they are disease free since 1971!
Thank you! It really is a worthwhile tour and very informative. Have a great day!

The machine was very neat to see. I kind of wish she had explained some of the switches a bit more or demo'd how it works. Thanks so much, Gasper!
