The phrase "Don't drink the Kool-Aid" actually pre-dates the Jonestown incident by a decade, but it became associated with it (and likely preserved for posterity) when it happened. The phrase goes back to the book The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test which was a non-fictional story about Ken Kesey and his followers acid trips in which they drank LSD-laced Kool-Aid.
That’s true, but there’s also no point. In Islam, Muhammad was a mortal man who died and went on to jannah. There’s no concept of him returning to Earth in any way like Jesus.
@@1080lightsNot Muhammad but there is a concept of a Mahdi who will come to the earth to save the world, and you’re incorrect there have been many people over the course of islamic history that have claimed to be him. Cults are not exclusive to Christianity

Cults are often inspired by multiple faiths and philosophies. This includes religions like Christianity, Buddhism and also esoteric movements and communism. It is true that in the West most cults are based on Christianity. However, to me it always seems that Islam started out as a cult as well, taking inspiration from Christianity, Judaism, Zoroastrianism and Arab paganism. The Quran is filled with references to the imminent Apocalypse, allows for polygamy especially for the prophet Muhammad who had at least 9 wives including an underage girl of 6 years old, commands followers to kill apostates and hypocrites. Besides that there are weird references to esoteric beliefs and practices, especially in Islamic oral traditions. Actually, I could almost give the exact same list for Mormonism.
Yeah, the Branch Davidians spun off from the Seventh Day Adventists. The difference between cult and religions are the orders of magnitude in number of followers
Weird thing about Heaven's Gate, their headquarters was in a big mansion in Rancho Santa Fe California, which at one time was the richest zip code in the US. The mansion was bull-dozed after the incident (I mean, who would want to live there). We live about 10 miles away.
Marshall Applewhite was my mechanic's brother (Applewhite Automotive, near San Antonio, TX)... I heard about the Heaven's Gate thing before it hit the news because of this relation.
I'm Christian, and all of these people's beliefs could have easily been refuted had they read the Bible. But notice they used it as a facade and then did away with the Bible completely. That's why protestantism emphasizes so much on being "Bible-Based". Anyways, what's interesting is I know for sure Christ says in the Bible that there would be many false people who will pretend to be him. Written over 2,000 years ago.
Look up The Jerusalem Syndrome - has affected many different people from different religious backgrounds. Most are/were otherwise mentally grounded and had no past episodes of metal disturbances. It's an interesting phenomenon.
You were right about the association with purple for the Heaven's Gate (Hale Bopp Comet) Cult- They all wore Nike sneakers and covered themselves in purple shrouds. Also, The Peoples Temple drank Grape (purple) Cool-Aid.
Don't know if someone mentioned this, but one of the people who died at the Heaven's Gate compound was supposedly a relative of Nichelle Nichols, the actress who plays Uhura on Star Trek tv shows and movies. At least, that was a big rumor back then. Not sure if it turned out to be false or true
Seems like most people join in search of community and answers. The less skeptical ones completely buy into the leader's story. There are definitely non-Christian based ones, but they aren't in the news as much because they're usually less.... "unalivey", to keep with the theme of that video.
In my experience, of you tell a person or group that approaches you trying to recruit you to fuck off loudly, word will spread and they'll all stay away after that.
I saw a video of some of the girls who followed Charles Manson being escorted to court and they were holding hands and singing whilst grinning felt very eerie and gave me goosebumps😫
Yeah. Manson continually groomed young girls and boys far before they even planned to un alive Tate and others.. he was also caught committing many terrible crimes as well as being caught with groups of underaged run away girls but he was always released from custody either with no bail or low costs. All of it just adds to the mysterious and evil aura around him and his group
Almost all cult leaders are one of two things: Creeps or thieves. The former are more likely to do stuff like this when they sense they're about to face justice. The latter are more likely to run off with bags of money.
Daz you weren't off when remembering sneakers. They all did wear the same sneakers but they weren't purple. The sheets they covered themselves in were.
There have been movements where a person claims to be either the Mahdi (Muslim) or the Jewish Messiah. And India has had several people claiming to be the Avatar of this or that God/God-Aspect. That said the, arguably, most murderous religion in history was founded by a man (Hong Xiuquan) who claimed to be Jesus's Chinese brother. Colonia Dignidad and Nation of Yahweh might also fit in the parameters of some of these. Colonia Dignidad was led by a former Nazi and was a subject in the film "Colonia" or "The Colony". It's been linked to torture and kidnapping. Nation of Yahweh was led by a "Yahweh ben Yahweh" who would be convicted for conspiracy to commit murder. Yahweh ben Yahweh was born Hulon Mitchell Jr and his sister was opera singer Leona Mitchell. And looking it up a murderous women led cults I find a Magdalena Solís who was called "The High Priestess of Blood" and a Japanese cult woman who was executed for multiple murder. And though not the most murderous "Ant Hill Kids" is extremely freaky.
Sammy Davis Jr was supposed to be at the house where the Tate/lobianca killings happened. He was very late in getting to California and thankfully missed being murdered by the Manson disciples.
No one is dumb enough to pretend to be the founder of Islam after what happened in Paris in 2015 to the journalists of Charlie Hebdo, the satirical magazine.
Steve McQueen was invited to go to the Tate residence to hang out but he got derailed by meeting a woman so he didn't go. I can imagine had he been there he probably could have done them all in knowing his skills and temperament. You see, that house was formally owned by Terri (Doris Day's) son who was a record producer. Charlie wanted to break into the music biz and hung out with some of the Beach Boys at their house. He wanted his song he recorded to be heard and finally got to meet Terri who did listen to it but turned him down as it wasn't that great in his opinion. This pissed off Charlie. Terrib and his then live-in girlfriend (Candace Bergen) eventually moved out of the house and then Roman Polanski and Sharon bought it. They hadn't been living there too long and Charlie was stewing and held a grudge towards Terri. His aim was to get Terri that night not Sharon or the 5 others but thinking he still lived there, he sent his crew over there and unfortunately it was an 8 month's pregnant Sharon, and friends killed and the following night with the LaBiancas. He listened to the song by the Beatles (Helter Skelter) and thought the Beatles were confirming to him (in his messed up brain) they were saying to go out and do it. Charlie wanted to start a race war. What he did and the brainwashing of all his followers ended the Summer of Love in 1969.
Cults are really just small religions. A cult that gets enough members becomes a religion i.e. Scientology and Mormonism. If we go back far enough, even the big religions like Christianity, Islam, Hinduism and Buddhism all started as small local cults.
Scientology is a cult, but Mormonism is a sect of Christianity. I always find it funny when hardcore Christians make fun of Mormon beliefs, as if theirs are any less crazy.

The answer to your question about what makes people do stuff like this is quite easy. The answer is religion simple as that and the video should be proof enough it’s been nothing but a thorn to mans mind since forever. More of a curse than a blessing
