Good afternoon. President Stubb, dear Alex, it's great to see you here. Welcome to the NATO headquarters and congratulations on your election as President of Finland. And let me also congratulate you on the first anniversary of Finland as a full NATO Ally.
Your membership makes NATO stronger and Finland safer. Finland takes security and defence seriously. You have long made defence spending a priority and we are grateful for the fact that when Finland joined NATO, yet another NATO Ally is spending and more than 2% on defence. You have highly trained personnel and your advanced military capabilities bolster our deterrence and defence.
Finland's seamless integration into the NATO family and the NATO structures reflects decades of very close cooperation between Finland as a previous partner, before you became a full member. We will continue to work together to further strengthen our Alliance. We live in a more dangerous world, but NATO has become stronger, so we continue to protect and defend all Allies.
Today in our meeting we discussed Ukraine and the urgent need for more support, and reliable and predictable support for Ukraine, because the situation on the battlefield is difficult. Delays in funding are having direct consequences on the ground every day. Delays in delivery of air defences will allow Russian missiles to hit more targets, and delays in delivery of ammunition will allow Russia to press along the frontline.
Ukraine simply cannot wait. It needs air defences, ammunition and aid. Now.
Against all odds, the Ukrainians have already achieved so much. They can prevail, but they need our support.
NATO is actively working to ensure reliable and predictable security assistance to Ukraine now and for the long haul, so that Ukraine relies less on the voluntary contributions and more on NATO commitments. Less on short term offers on more on multiyear pledges. Moscow needs to understand that they cannot wait those out and, therefore, a package for Ukraine with predictable robust support is what we are working on now in NATO.
And I thank you, President, for Finland's strong support to step up the NATO support to Ukraine.
Let me also thank Finland and you for the fact that since the full fledge invasion of Ukraine, back in 2022, Finland has been a staunch supporter of Ukraine. You have provided around 2 billion euros in military aid since 2022, including 30 million euros to the Czech-led artillery initiative. I also welcome that just last week Finland signed a new 10-year security agreement with Kyiv. So we are grateful for your contributions to NATO's collective defence, to our shared security, and, not least, that Finland is a lead nation in providing support to Ukraine.
So once again, dear Alex, welcome, it's great to see you here.

Sauli Niinistö represented kind of old school of english that they taught in the 1950-60. Stubb is much younger and he had a very active and productive career outside Finland. He learned much working outside Finland. But ofcourse there is Kimi Räikkönen and his english a bit….
He apparently spent some years in the US, first at a high school in Florida and then went to Furman University in South Caroline on a golf scholarship. Also did his doctorate in political science at the LSE in London. He also speaks French, having studied at the Sorbonne, plus Finnish, Swedish and German.
His wife is British. Alexander is originally bilingual, as his father is a Swedish speaking Finn, whereas his mother speaks Finnish. To my understanding he speaks also German and French at a decent level, but not as well as English. Of all the presidents we have had Stubb is among the most academic.
As a Finn, I am impressed also, but our president is a Furman alumni, love it ❤

If you ever wonder why the Finnish president is on top of things, also in English as in several other languages: Furman University, South Carolina, Bachelor of Arts 1989-93. Sorbonne Paris, Course se Civilisation Française 1993-94, College of Europe Bruges, Master in European Political and Administrative. Studies 1994-95, London School of Economics and Political Science, PhD International Relations 1997-98... Minister of European affairs and Foreign Trade 2011-14, Prime Minister 2014-15, Minister of Finance 2015-16, President of Finland 2024-. He is not there by accident.

We in Finland are cool but not shy . Our ex-president spoke also English , but not with speed. His mother laguage is Finnish and in Finland we have also Swedish language , which he spoke also . SO HE WAS FLUENTLY SPEAKING 2 LANGUAGES AT LEAST .
OUR NEW PRESIDENT he is a linguistic phenomenon. Maybe 6-7 languages fluently like he did with English today .
In Finland our politicians are not hiding behind "big brother" -walls .
They can say what they think of Russia or Putin , not change the war game to Palestine , like Spain .

Even in non war time it is very important to stay on that 2%. Any would be enemies will not stop building. They are of a offensive nature. NATO is of defensive nature as Defence is the best offense. This is the real world and unfortently there will always be wars. And we need to always be ready to deal with trouble makers. These cave men and communist that dominate their people that wish to dominate you or for whatever reason a cave man comes out of his cave or tent to cause trouble will always exist. As even they are becoming more advanced. The drones are a new page in history that is going to break havok on piece and the civilized world. We (NATO) need Drone Corps in there ranks, the best trained drone operators they can train. Defence or anti drone hardware with operators that know how to use it. Very important stuff, no more falling asleep.

NATO must get stronger and more aggressive with Russia to dissuade them from any further moves to reform the soviet empire. The costs to Russia have to be greatly increased.
