- arcade one up riser build for $20 - build 2 risers per MDF sheet- Measurements are posted in the video - also
Riser measurements-
4) 13 1/4 x 19 7/8 - putter panels
2) 18 13/16 x 11 1/2 inner panels
2) 19 7/8 x 2” top supports.
Thank you so much. I just had a gentleman at Home Depot cut me two. Winds up 50-60$! They also mixed up some paint and primer with Bayer black paint that came up $16 additional dollars.... after putting it together at the house it was a little bit off in the front and it makes the game slant up..... not your fault just the way I put it together. At the end of the day it actually works because the game slsnts up towards you as you are standing as if you are shooting off a deer stand so winds up being a better experience for me😂.
Great video, thank you for the measurements!! For those wondering, 1/2" MDF 4x8 is now about 50 bucks thanks to the pandemic and inflation. However, given the risers are at least that alone, and you can build more than 1 out of a 4x8 sheet, it's still the better option.
How much was 1/2" 4x8 mdf prior to pandemic?
@@BenDunlop A little over 20 bucks.
@@mattthearcadeguy I hadn't had to buy MDF until recently and definitely thought it had increased in price but I didn't know by how much.
Do you see it dropping, or this another 'new normal'?
@@BenDunlop It's the new normal, prices are not going to drop on anything but gasoline.
I modified this design a little.
At the 4 corners, I used a 2x4 upright on the inside, same height at the two "inner" boards (11.5 inches) with the long side against the front. I put 3 screws into each side of each corner (still pre-drilled and countersunk). This not only makes the connection stronger than a couple screws lengthwise into a 1/2 inch width board but instead into a more substantial 2x4, but also gives 4 corner anchor points for the top supports.
I also only used 1 inner panel since i already had both corners. The top supports had 2 corners and the middle inner panel.
On my first one, i screwed the inner panel the same way in the video but even with predrilling it felt weak, so on the other 2 I got out of the sheet of MDF I used a 2x2 the same way I used the 2x4 in the corners. Made for a more robust connection and additional support for the top supports.
Thank you. I watched this video yesterday and went to home depot today. Really appreciate this video.
Thank you
Great video! and timely since there is an acute shortage of risers at the moment.
Louis Nicholson - thank you -
Thank you so very much for posting this video with the measurements. Just finished my riser and it's a perfect fit!
Thank you
Make these for sale bro and taller risers for taller people I’d definitely be interested
Just built a riser using these measurements except I extended the height 1 inch. It works perfectly and I'll paint the MDF semi-gloss black tomorrow. Thanks again for the measurements, that really made the job a.lot easier! Game on!
That’s awesome 😎
I'm 6"2", so I was thinking about adding at least 4", maybe 6" more; is that possible?
You sir are a G.D. hero ! THANK YOU FOR THIS.
Did it, turned out awesome. Keep in mind folks, you can build 2 or 3 risers out of 1 4x8 sheet of MDF. 😁
I put mine on milk crates and they fit on there like a glove. It leaves 8 inches sticking out that makes a great foot stool playing sitting or a step for kids. If you are really tall like me you could even stack two more on top for a 22 inch lift. You could also duct tape them together and then dress them up to match your cab. I like the way it looks. I have blue crates matching my Tempest cab
Can you post a picture of the milk crates your using
@@joannatigercub TH-cam doesn’t allow pictures. So I have two milk crates side by side long ways in regards to the crates then the machine on top going short ways in regards to the crates. I hope this makes sense. The machine fits perfectly and is totally stable on there.
@Draxxon Lives the crates I’m using are stable.
I used Scott's measurements and ended up with an awesome product. If you don't get the riser with your unit, simply follow this.
Thanks for the video. Built one this weekend and started a second one.
Awesome- 😊
This is AWESOME! Going to build this ASAP - going to make a 18" one though so its a little more comfortable when standing.
Thumbs up for the framed Megamania!!
Thank you 😊
Thank for posting and providing the measurements for this project I will be making one soon.
Great video I have made 4 save me big time. Riser at the store they are $50 I got MDF for $31 so made 4 for under $70. Had glue and screws already
Thank you, That is great news 😊
Thanks for this video. I went out and made myself 2 of them for $50. They look just like the real thing
That’s great 😃
Hey thanks man, I'm going to attempt this with my Dad later this week!
Awesome- sounds like a fun project together. Let us know how it goes.
Mint video, thanks so much
Thank you 😊
Great video 👍 I plan on making custom risers for a couple of my cabinets since official risers are impossible to find.
Thanks! Great video, Nicely explained
Awesome video, I have a table saw with a Dewalt blade, would this be a good method?
😊😊🤷♂🤷♂ what are the two types of drill bits i need ???
what size is the 1st one the Drill bit large
and what size is the small tin one ?
I would love it it you have a video posted of you carving the front part of the riser.. is there a special jig you use for it. Never seems to come out right... hand held
Jig saw always wants to drift while
Cutting
I just use a marker and draw out the line using the measurements, then you can use a circular saw for the straight cut and just jigsaw the little curves.
Great tutorial thank you
You should specify the width of the mdf youre using where you put the measurements. I accidentally cut mine with 3/4” mdf not realizing id end up too large
Good point, I did overlook that, I will try and add it
Super helpful! Thanks for sharing this info.
Thank you
Thank you very much for the this video!
Any recommendations on the type of blade or tool to make a clean/smooth cut on the mdf?? Thank you!!
I had a new standard type blade on the circular saw and it did fine, the jig saw had a standard wood blade. Just don’t try to cut fast and it should work well and use sandpaper to smooth out any roughness.
I made a video on making a riser. I did not make mine look like the actual arcade 1up risers. Do you mind if I add a link to your video in my description for those that would prefer this style of riser?
I don’t mind at all -👍🏻
great video thank you , a question , in your Tron review video i love your carpet , is very arcade/casino style . can i ask you where you get it
Thank you, The carpet is called joy carpets on Google. www.wayfair.com/Joy-Carpets--Abstract-Tufted-Fluorescent-Area-Rug-36-L167-K~W000218253.html?refid=GX528939815425-W000218253_544952516&device=m&ptid=852937507186&network=g&targetid=aud-871898920267:pla-852937507186&channel=GooglePLA&ireid=27192836&fdid=1817&PiID%5B%5D=544952516&gclid=Cj0KCQiAkZKNBhDiARIsAPsk0Wi0p7bIHVjWQENpVsPKqE53QRUG3BmyeSIsLPtk9pF-bjP2JPzniJ8aAjtUEALw_wcB
Do you cut the board yourself? If I give the measurement to HomeDepot, will they cut the boards for me?
yep
Home Depot can at least cut the sheet up in rough demensions so you can get the peices home.....or fit em in your car
Thank you man
Your welcome 😊
How much would u charge to make one and sale it to me no paint
Sour Twix - I have to much going on right now to make any more - sorry
I make custom risers, I make them in Toronto if anyone is looking to get one.
@@motionmuseumstudioswhats the price? Just curious. Thanks
Hi! Could you give me the EU messure? Centimeters pls?
thank you, good video.
Thanks I built one today
Awesome 😊
Awesome. I subscribed!
Putter panels? you mean outer? (measurements in description)
Are you making these for sale yet?
If i wanted to make this taller by say 3inches just change 13 1/4 to 16 1/4 and 18 13/16 to 21 13/16??? Thank you
Superbeaver3000 - The Only change she would need to do is change the 13 1/4 to 16 1/4 nothing else will change. That would be a good height for play.👍🏻
Scott Harper you made my day
@@fkfdfireman shouldn't the inner panel be changed also? From 11 1/2 to 14 1/2 to match the outer panel's new height.
@@bocswu absolutely, great point. The inner supports will need to increase to match the riser😊
can you just post the dimensions in your description please.....
Sorry it took so long, I never received notification of a question - I posted the measurements in the description.
@@fkfdfireman i ended up pausing the video and just writing them down. thanks for the vid - ive made 4 so far.
Thanks!
the cost of sheet and time to take. Was more expensive than just buying the riser. But it is 2022. Price of wood shot through the roof
A 1/2 sheet of MDF is $23 and you can build 2 risers out of one sheet. When I made the video, risers were in short supply and almost impossible to get. It’s 2022 👍🏻
Great Job on the riser! What do you recommend for paint? And how do you get the arcade1up logo on this for it to match other cabinets??
I used a gloss black enamel and a 3 dollar roller kit and rolled it. The roller gave it that corrugated texture which matched the originals very well. I did not add the arcade logo because I made 2 risers that matched, i simply set them on each side of the other games and they blended in welk. I have a local auto trim store that will make the Logo stickers for a cheap price- I have just not added them at this point. Also there are several on line companies that make riser sticker kits. But solid black works well and literally no one has noticed the difference yet. I also thought about making a stencil and just spray painting the logo on on gray. I may do that in the near future.
My biggest complaint about the riser... it's still not tall enough. Have you thought about doubling the height of the rise? That would put the arcade1Up machine closer to the original height of these retro arcade games from the '80s.
Absolutely- I copied the factory OEM specs so that it would match the rest of my machines, but yes if someone wanted to they could simply add to the factory specs and make them taller- that’s a preference thing but very easily done👍🏻😊
Your the man 🙏🙏🙏
Thank you 😊
Any chance you would be willing to sell me one? I just purchased a mortal combat 2 without the riser box.
Sorry I don’t sell them 😥
Scott,
I realize you made this video over 2 years ago but do you still build and sell these risers? Or at least cut all the necessary pieces to put together?
Please let me know………. I can’t cut a straight line…….hands not steady.
Thanks,
Dan Hulshult
Thank you Dan, it would probably cost to much to ship them so I have not tried to make and sell them. 😊
MDF or plywood? Thickness?
www.lowes.com/pd/MDF-Actual-0-495-in-x-48-92-in-x-8-07-ft/1000344501
1/2 inch 👍🏻 MDF
Thanks. The only reason I asked was you referred to it as MDF plywood so I was unclear. It looked like MDF but I wanted to be sure. Great video. I’ll be building one soon.
Where to get the sweatshirt?
Eastern University web site has the sweat shirts. www.prepsportswear.com/college/us/pennsylvania/st-davids/eastern-university-eagles/productlist?category=305&schoolid=2062310
What size drywall screws did you use?
I think he said two inch.
2 inch - Sorry for the delay - It never said I got a message
What thickness is the MDF Board
1/4 inch
@@fkfdfireman ty
@@fkfdfireman I think you meant 1/2 inch
@@3OBTPA lol he needs to clarify on this. Lots of confusion
@@TEAMP1ZZA It is 1/2 inch. In fact, I didn't even see a 1/4 inch in the store.
Home Depot would not cut it for me. They said only real wood. So moving that into my truck and into the garage was a real chore.
Do you sale them?
Sorry, I don’t sell them.
Is this 1/2" or 3/4" MDF?
1/2 - Lowe’s has it for $22 and you can make 2 risers out of one sheet.
@@fkfdfireman can you provide a link?
I can make custom risers in the Toronto Canada area if anyone is interested.
