The first development in this piece isn't a neighborhood. Its on James Road. And one turn off the road onto one street. It was never blighted. The Blight is down the street. Mayor Strickland is trashing James Road. Its pathetic.
Hang on, so they tore down trees to build new houses? That's not getting rid of blight. Those rundown shitboxes need to be taken by eminent domain and repurposed. I'm one of those 'ill meanin' outside investors who bought some of these shitboxes, spent $$$$ renovating them, bringing jobs and tax dollars to the city. I rent them at a fair rent to recoup my investment and maintain them in top shape. How about those in line for housing roll up their sleeves and help build their own houses with assistance from the city? Knock and clear the land these houses are on, if those waiting on housing help maintain the plots, move them to the front of the line. Artocle says they dont have budget to knock the house? Well that's BS, plumber to cut off water n gas, electrician to cut power and a backhoe, stop with the excuses Do better Memphis and stop blaming outside money, they only reason we come because we do what you won't.
You are A BLESSING 🙏🏽STOP THE OUT OF TOWN INVESTIGATORS 100% BECAUSE THEY DON’T CARE ABOUT THE NEIGHBORHOOD I SAID WE NEED AN ACCOUNT TO HELP PPL PAY PROPERTY TAXES TO KEEP THERE HOMES ✝️ GOVERNMENT PAY RENT LIGHTS 👁️👁️BUT NO TAX????
this doesn't really seem like renovating blighted areas, he just described the fact they tore down some trees to build a neighborhood. blight clean up would be to tear down some vacants and simply build nicer ones over it. which doesnt really work because that's not profitable. what he described in this video is no different than the new olive branch houses they been building...
I get it now, we are using tax payer funds to redevelop property for people who haven’t done anything to improve their own environment. Now what is the plan to change the mindset of the people who haven’t done anything to change their own environment, so these communities don’t resemble the current communities in 20 years?
Blight need to make some rules when the family is approved to move in. no while party's no criminal activity and to respect each other in the neighborhood. what I'm really trying to say it will be like HOA community because it's some families is looking for hand out not only that they have to keep a Job
I live in northern Cali and currently working in Low Income Affordable Housing. Not only are you stabilizing communities your securing families with small children who need a roof over their head. When you create neighborhoods is when community watch forms and ppl look out for one another. The city need to think about providing better training for police officers and paying them more money to do a better job
Yeah well they say they're affordable but how affordable are they really look at them look at how much we're already paying out the ass for everything else who the f*** can afford that not any normal person could...
Yeah right these people don’t wanna pay for anything and will have these houses looking like crap in no time. 🤦🏽♂️
This needs to be on national news.
Yes right alone with the other fake news
Good for them. Love this idea and especially not using out of town investors.

trust that the developers look like you lol, we're fighting now to keep them from putting these houses in our neighborhood
Stop being negative people. They’re doing something to help the people. Education is needed to teach the people how to take care of their homes.
Two thumbs up blight make a beautiful change
This sounds like an small print catch 22 to me. 🧐
That is what we need
