      I feel like they probably could’ve moved the homes to another plot of land. Why demolish it at all?

    • @MonkeyJedi99
      @MonkeyJedi99 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@SL-lz9jr Depending on the structural integrity of the building, the distance it needs to be moved, the value of the structure, the type and number of utility lines and other structures that would have to be moved, the width and stability of the roads to be traveled, and various codes and ordinances...
      It may cost much more to move a house than to tear it down, throw away everything involved, and build another structure in the new location.
      -
      Most houses that get moved are older, historical, and/or owned by people who have enough attachment to the house to put forth the expenditures.

    Reminds me of something that happened in my home town. They demolished an entire block of OLD stores and stuff downtown, to build some new building... it stayed as a fenced off grass covered lot for at least 3-5 years (no one could get in, since it was fenced off, so it didn't even get to be used as a small park), spent several more years as a giant hole in the ground, and has been under actual construction for over 5 years. This has been going on for WELL over a decade. It's just been an eye sore for more than half of that time, and will be when it's done too. It's ruined the view from the 5-6 story library across the street (not that the view is important or very valuable, but it does add insult to injury).
    They ran out of money part way through, and it's not the first time it happened with the exact same people in charge.

    This is also why despite there being fantastic deals on properties and homes in the Detroit area.... No one is moving there!
    Between the corrupt politicians and the greedy city and parish governments and crooked contractors, developers and mortgage and loan companies it's just not worth it.
    I looked at moving there because I found many huge older homes... Victorian mansions! They were damaged but worth restoring.
    I could buy them for as little as $2000!
    But when I inquired about financing and permits....
    I was told that I had to hire a "permit agent" in order to get the needed permits and clearances.
    It was going to cost me $14,000 just to get the permit applications completed! Then another $4000 for the permits... wether I got them or not!
    They basically made it so expensive and complicated to even get started that no way was I going to go any further....
