Some artist do come out and say it. GOT7 did. They went a whole year with no activities, and members were like we want to do things. Also, a member Yugyeom supported trucks fans sent and, during a live and JYPE never re-uploaded the live again. Their last comeback in JYPE was disastrous. They gave them the same set for MV's and the physical was just thrown together.
SM makes their groups popular but only to a certain extent so that the artists still remain in their control and not gain too much power so when their artists leave the company they don't have the same level of success which soloists from popular groups like blackpink have which makes their artists cling to the company......it's like a toxic relationship SM also started the slave contract system in kpop (contracts that are crazy long (10+ years))they also have the power to blacklist artists like they did with some TVXQ members SM had many opportunities to capitalize on red velvet by releasing more rnb based tracks like bad boy and pyscho which were doing really good numbers and were topping charts but they made their tracks more experimental and then after aespa debuted their focus completely shifted on aespa ......... i am afraid the same will happen to aespa if the new gg becomes more successful than aespa in the coming years.......
By not being able to do activities or your company blocking opportunities. Like it makes no sense that they have barely done any tours as well. They came to the US once, and it was a small theater in Chicago.
@CandyCane23049 I'm going to clue you in on something that you obviously haven't realized yet... Red Velvet doesn't care one iota about the Western market. Never have, never will. In their 10 year career, they've never even put out an official English single. They were offered a U.S. distribution deal in 2019 by Universal Music, and they turned it down. Red Velvet is quite content being legends in Korea, where Kpop is actually relevant. According to SM's own data, the U.S. counts for only 5% of their album sales. They haven't needed the Western market for the last 10 years, so why would they suddenly need it now?
@CandyCane23049 Of course they do. Red Room, and Redmare both traveled to other Asian locations. La Rouge and Red Room would have as well if they hadn't been cut short by extenuating circumstances.

@@riffgroove It's just not the West. They have barely toured in Asia either. They don't tour at all.
