Welcome to the world of symphonic metal! And thank you for checking this legendary band, performing at Wacken Open Air in 2013, together with Floor Jansen, the 3rd and present female singer of the band, in front of an 82K+ audience.
About the instrumental and vocal added parts - it's good to know they recorded their orchestral and vocal back tracks with prestigious institutions as London Philharmonic Orchestra. London's The Metro Voices choir group and London's Young Musicians Children's Choir as their regular partners.
As I saw, you enjoyed the powerful performance of the band. Hope you'll continue on this path.
Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the [updated] short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory):
" Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer. They are from Finland.
Tuomas Holopainen, the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. [The 1st Bassist of the band was Sami Vanska, he was with them until 2001. The 2nd one was Marco Hietala, as Bassist and vocals, since 2001 to 2020. He recently announced his retirement both from the band and the public life for the next year at least - we'll see what the future brings to us. Then very recently (May 2021) Jukka Koskinen became the 3nd Bassist of the band, for at least the Human :II: Nature tour] And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen . Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrumentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition.
Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile) - you just heard her.
There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era. From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era (Tarja), Montreux Festival live 2012 and Exit Festival (Anette), Live at Wacken 2013, Live at Wembley, Live at Tampere, Vehicle of Spirit, Decades live (Floor). I hope this helps.

That’s because Europeans have music and art in their schools and are trained in classical, jazz, folk and rock. According to my Dutch friend, they are exposed to this at an early age. European progressive and symphonic metal are due to this training. Most can also speak more than language.
A lot of people overlook the insane drumming because Floor is so amazing.

It's called symphonic metal (subgenre).
If you are blown away, you should also listen to EPICA, the best symphonic metal band alongside Nightwish. Epica is heavier though, I've heard someone saying Epica is like Nightwish on steroids :D

Yeh. There are usually a few viewers who've never run across NW before in every reaction but this is exceptional. RobSquad's regular audience must normally listen to different genre's than Symphonic Metal.

Floor Jansen is a goddess. The Valkyrie sent to earth for the modern era. She is the best female vocalist of the decade, arguably the best of the century, and possibly the best female vocalist of all time
Don´t forget DORO.
This was the 13th song in a 16 song set, if I recall correctly and she had been singing for over an hour before tackling this song. That is how powerful her voice is and how talented she is with her vocal choices. You need real pipes to pull that off. She also wasn't officially part of the band yet...she was covering for Annette who was hospitalized. She learned the set in just 48 hours.
The woman is an Amazon warrior, this what she was born to be. Queen.
I saw someone describe this band as: A pirate on Drums, a viking on Bass, an Elf on Guitar, a Dark Wizard on keyboard and a Valkery on Vocals

I was so impressed & moved by this, after I saw it I went immediately to Ticketmaster in hopes I could see them live. Yes, based on one video clip. (Not knowing it'd be slim chance as they're from Finland) But wouldn't ya know it, the show was last night in Washington DC. I was right in the front. The whole show was epic and magical. They are on tour right now, if you get the opportunity to see them, please do it. It's an experience you'll never forget.

She’s a goddess among men. Amy Lee from Evanescence is a Demi-God, but Floor is a flat out Goddess.
Nightwish is an amazing blend of metal and a sort of operatic singing style, but as you heard, Floor can belt like no one else. It’s like a kind of medieval metal heh. Either way, they sound amazing live, and I’ve never been disappointed by a live performance by them.
If you are interested in hearing Floor outside of Nightwish, where it’s just her voice you can focus on, look up the duet of Phantom of the Opera she did with a man named Henk. He is one of her idols, and he did Phantom of the opera for a long time on stage. Growing up, Floor always wanted to be up there singing the duet with him. She finally got her chance on a show from overseas. If you just look up “Floor Henk Phantom”, it should be the first result. You won’t be disappointed as Henk has an incredibly deep, resounding voice and is very much an incredible vocalist in his own right. They play off each other so perfectly though and you can tell they’re having a blast. It’s well worth your time to check out.

The duet of "Phantom of the Opera" is from a Dutch TV show called "Beste Zangers" (= best singers), where singers of different genres assemble at Ibiza island to perform a special song for one colleague in the centre spotlight of that evening. It either can be a special cover of a personal song, or a song with a special meaning for that person. It's no competion. Both Floor Jansen (pronounce: Yahnsen) and Henk Poort were participating in 2019. You 'll be thrilled to check this out and also discover Floor's versatility. She is the best vocalist of this era.
Sorry, but there's a whole range of female front singers between Floor and Amy. Amy can sing very well, but to me she's far from a (demi-)goddess. She might be the very best mortal singer though.

Of all the people I have seen react to this song YOU TWO REALLY GET IT! And you got it right away. It took me about 4 times through before I even knew what I was watching. Yes, Floor is a goddess, the goddess, the metal queen. BUT, as you noticed the entire band is PHENOMENAL! I recommend you familiarize yourself with their music and watch the Wacken 2013 performance. It is historic in my opinion. Thank you for showing such appreciation for the quality that Nightwish brings to the stage!

@@nicod1361 I 100% support Floor’s solo project stuff. And I agree, it’s amazing as well. But it’s a bit odd to promote her solo stuff so heavy handedly to someone who commented about the over all experience of Nightwish’s music and not specifically Floors vocals.
By no means am I suggesting you stop promoting her solo stuff (I do it too), but tailor the suggestion for the individual. Don’t neglect to promote additional NW songs to someone that commented about the band’s music (and Tuomas’s composition style specifically).

I've been watching way too many Nightwish reactions, but the music is so compelling....I can't stop. Amber seems to have grasped the reality of the gifts these people possess. Especially Floor. Check out the Tampere concert (2015). It's a must-see. Here's a sleeper for you from that concert....Endless Forms Most Beautiful. Great, Great Song! And Amber, please note that sooner or later you will be watching the Wembly (2015) performance of Poet and the Pendulum. Absolutely stunning live performance.
I love you guys. I'm an old man who becomes ageless with music. Nightwish has been in my life for some time now and I get palpitations listening to this song, among many. I've never had the good fortune of seeing them live, and totally envy those who were at this concert in 2013. I have watched this multiple times and even on several reaction channels and I'm just mesmerized every time and when she goes high at the end of that doesn't give you goosebumps I don't know what will. Shout out to the drummer and rest of the band as well.
It was the first ever performance by Floor Jansen with the group Nightwish. In my opinion, she is the best female vocalist ever...Behind her is former Nightwish singer Tarja Turunen. You should also listen to her songs. Especially live from the concert "End of an Era"

I'm 55, and i feel the same. Gladly, we BOTH caught this with Floor, and not the previous singer. Not that she was a bad singer, but pure opera. That is fine, but Floor brings SOOO many other elements to the table, and seriously, her voice will consume your soul. and leave you begging for more. Siren.

Yeah. I felt the same way..... been listening to metal since black sabbath.... don't know how this isn't arena worthy here in the states.... but the ua music industry has pigeon holed metal into a very narrow space..... such a shame since they've been around since the mid 90's

This is my wife's favorite group, we have seen them live in Portland Oregon twice and met them all at the tour bus in the parking lot each time after, the friendliest people I ever met. Their concerts were incredible, we were 10 feet away at the barrier and they have so much great music. This is a group you can go see now, not something you needed to be alive in 1990, 9 concerts set in the USA in 2022, no need to time travel or fly to Europe to see them. I've not heard a song of theirs that was not good.
Wow. Must been great experience to get meet Tuomas, Floor and all the rest of the guys. I am myself from Finland, 43 year old man, and I am currently rediscovering nw after 2005 when Tarja period was ended. I am proud that our small country can produce such yt phenomenon. But in my mind they deserved it, Tuomas is genius and everything they allways done they have done with full heart and high quality only. Did u get a chat with some of them? This concert was very close to her Debut as the singer for Nightwish. There were very large boots to fill, so. This was her way of showing her abilities to dedicated fans.

I must be honest and say you , or at least me, can only listen to one or two songs at a time. Very intense. Not sure about an album or concert

Floor Jansen is their third singer....the others were Tarja Turunen ( more operatic) and Anette Olzon ( more pop/rock ) but both were great on the albums they made with the band.. but Floor Jansen does every vocal style there is.

I completely understand the shock you experienced when reacting to it. You guys say you're late with the reaction but I only discovered it today and I'm obsessed! It's hands down one of the best things I've ever experienced. So it's 3am and I'm still watching reaction videos to this masterpiece. And guess what? First thing I thought of her once she started singing was that she sounded like a syren. Mind blown!
Have never heard of this band but liked it a lot. You guys are good at making connections. Amber said that instrument was Midieval. When I looked them up, one description was Gothic Metal which I relate to Midieval. As I was listening to her, she reminded me of Ann Wilson of heart. After I finished this more of her music popped up on TH-cam and she did a cover of Heart's song "Alone." Well done to the those who recommended this.

Epica - somewhat similar in style to Nightwish in that they are also quite symphonic
Sabaton - the band in which Floor's husband plays the drums. Also heavy-hitting emotionally, although in a different way: Their songs are about moments in history. NOTE: If watching Sabaton's music videos on YT, make sure you stick around to the very end. They like hiding a few easter-eggs in there. One such example is their song "Christmas Truce".
I love both of your reactions to this video. Blown away just like everybody who watched this for the first time. Nightwish is a band next level (just like Epica) The way the band is playing is so synchronised. The drummer is fantastic and Floor off course is so skilled and a stage goddess. Everything falls into place. It is not a show. Nightwish is a journey. Pure art. Big fan!

Just watched a Nightwish live video called “Ever Dream” (from End of an Era) - with Tarja, the original lead singer on vocals. This is one bad ass song, everything about it - and her vocals are amazing. It blows me away that they were able to find a vocalist as good as Tarja to replace her with. I almost feel like Floor Jansen might even he better, or at least more powerful but equally as operatic. Long live Queen Tarja, but step aside for the new queen Floor! Killer band!!!

55 year Englishman who grew up with the Stones,Queen, AC/DC ,LED Zeppelin and other " legends" accidentally presses the wrong reaction video and 18 minutes later FLOORGASM why have i not listened to this band before, now a dedicated member of the Nightwish army and all album's and "live" shows on his laptop, the lyrics and music are genius and the band, all of them are phenomenal,i have seen some live shows in my time by some of the greats but that was the best live shows i have seen, wish i had been there , thanks Jay and Amber for introducing this old fart to something "otherworldly"
