I was a CPA for 15 years and, as an introvert, I wasn’t going to move up to partner status to make the big money. I was a wonderful worker bee, the work was piled on year after year, and as a salaried worker it would’ve too sad to compute my hourly wage. I went back to school to change my career and am very, very happy with the outcome.
Accountancy now requires a masters degree and passing the CPA exam which is very rigorous. It is a very expensive college degree for the hourly wage given and the inevitable poor work/life balance.
I have no pity as the USA CPA board brought it on themselves, that is what this guy is not reporting. They changed the requirements to make it more difficult to get in the profession years ago. They will import foreign workers, run them through the grinding mill, and then toss them out. They are the bottom line of the bottom feeders.

Yeah and not to mention, all these firms cry about needing help but do not want to invest in the younger generation. They want someone straight out of school with 5 years experience under their belt.

I got a degree in accounting and finance and couldn't get an entry job. All places wants 5 years experience. The internships are hard to get because from what I have seen too many from ivory league schools get the internships. I cannot take the CPA because I need to work under a licensed CPA for at least 1 year. Yet, cannot get any entry job. I have applied to the big 4 accounting firms, major corporations, mid-size companies and many mid-sized accounting firms. All want 5 years of work experience in a specific area for accounting like taxation, financial, auditing.

Cpa firms need to raise their fees about 20-30%. Then redirect this money to staff, senior staff, and manager wages. That’s how you fix the problem. It’s all about money.

@@chadabercrombie6860A CPA should be making 60k minimum in a LCOL area. All business needs to do Audit Compliance and Taxes. Raise your damn prices.

Accountants are underpaid. Companies want senior accountants for a manager’s job description. CPAs are running from BIG 4 they get in and stay for 6 months to a year and leave. This guy is talking about outsourcing the work versus raising the salary.

Accountants don't get the respect and are underpaid. in public accounting, we often got abused and threatened by clients. it is toxic working in such environment.

Firms would rather pay overseas worker than pay american staff more.
They want american money but not pay american wages.

“None of these kids want to work”
Kids: hi I’m ready to work hard and learn.
    Firms: do you have experience?
Kids: no, that’s why I’m applying to an entry level job.
Firms: were really looking for someone to hit the ground running, sorry
