@@warwickspinks3875 yup. the english translator prevents auto-translation. horrible production. ah ha! it's this channel. this youtube channel. they screwed something up with the audio. look elsewhere, the english dubs are fine.
Great documentary in many ways. At times, however, the volume of the narrator clashes with the volume of the interviews he is translating, it is unpleasant to the ear. The translation is good but there is some inaccuracy. This is not a problem most of the time because the general meaning is the same but at points the narrator's translation conveys an inaccurate meaning.
And a wrong translation even at the 20-t second. In Russian it says "у них просто разные таланти - у одного талант изследователя, у етого талант игрока", which means "they just have different talents - one has the talent of a researcher, this one(or another) has the talent of a player". It is widely known that Kasparov is the researcher and Karpov is the naturally born player, but the translator changed the roles.
Many of Karpov’s rivals (notably Spassky, Korchnoi and Kasparov) said some really quite nasty stuff about him. He always seemed to react with great dignity and restraint to this slander. Unlike the brash, arrogant and often petulant Kasparov. As for being a vassal of the state, I think he was just a quiet man who simply wanted to play chess and avoid controversy. In the USSR that meant going along with whatever the state wanted. Not to do with any deep rooted political beliefs.
He only speculated on the political situation, he realized which was the side that would have eventually won, and went along them, no matter if this was crushing his own country. Morality Is something pretty alien to Kasparov
So i can go to a tournament like a world championship and play with the Venetian flag instead of the italian one?!? I never understood why this was allowed to Garry
Looks like a great documentary but it's hard to hear the translator over the interviewees' dialogue.
Agreed. I wish they would have just used english subs for the french and russian speakers. The translator talking over them was annoying.

poor audio
Karpov is so underrated
Not for those who truly know chess.
Excellent post ❤ thanks John Barnett ❤❤❤
Overdub should be louder than original audio!
A great story about the two great Ks of Chess

What they don’t say is how much the former communist president of Azerbaijan pushed to the extreme for Kasparov.
Do you understand that the voice of the person speaking must be turned down in order to hear the interpretation?
yes please fix this
Very poor audio
Great Karpov

better translation audio is on timeline world histories documentaries
2 mins in and I can't listen. Should have used subtitles
4:50 that's because the American Bobby Fischer was too scared to face him
Karpov refused on Fischer’s conditions
Can't hear the translations. Downvote.
the volume levels of this video are horrendous
So i can go to a tournament like a world championship and play with the Venetian flag instead of the italian one?!? I never understood why this was allowed to Garry
should be better to put subtitle in interview
2:16 in particular
Painful to the ears and head
"kill him, Tolja, kill him!" ....just the same bullshit Korchnoj told as well...not a very inventive shit by Garry this time!
Maybe 5db difference between 2 audios?
