Well this was a nice stone grit walk through with a hardness treat to cut less or more, thank you. Lance & Patrick.

I think the Velcro is brilliant. Japanese Waterstones shouldn’t ever be allowed to freeze when wet (or damp). If your workspace is unheated and Frost is a possibility, use a light bulb on a timer in a cabinet to protect them.

    FYI for people:
The Shapton ha-no-kuromaku (pro in America) and Naniwa Chosera (professional in America) specifically say not to use detergent or soap with/on them. It's in the instructions that come with them but it's in Japanese. Naniwa Chosera stones say on the side of every stone do not leave in water for longer than an hour. It is unnecessary anyway.
Also, for broken stones you can put back together, wrap around the sides in strong paper, lacquer it, and glue to a board , lap it and use them as normal.

@Tiwar Yes, I am fully aware of the instructions. However, I've been using Shapton stones, specifically, for more than 10 years, and I've been using hand soap in my spray bottles for this method for the past 3 years. I find that it works great to help keep the stones from clogging up, and it also helps to clean up the stones once I'm done using them. I do, however, recommend a very small amount of soap in a full spray bottle of warm water. Using this method in no way has negatively affected my work, and the bonus for me is that it allows for the stone to cut/work more efficiently.
In regards to the broken stones, I have used the method you've mentioned of restoring them as well, and yes, it does work great! However, in the video, I was showing another option for how a broken stone can be used. They work great as conditioning/Nagura stones when used that way.
FYI, NO STONES WERE HARMED DURING THE FILMING OF THIS VIDEO, LOL;-)!

Great video,, putting soap in the Water is great for some natural stones like arks and coticules, but dont use it on your synthetics, u risk destroing your Stones, i know for sure that in the shapton Pro Stone manual it Says to dont use soapy water

Thanks for the comment! Yes, the instructions say that. However, I've been spraying my synthetic stones with soapy water for over a decade without any stones ever being destroyed or their function hindered. Now if you want to ruin a stones performance then spray it with alcohol.

kutaboveperfection then maybe there are minor differences you would not know if you allways used soap,, just my thoughts, depends on what is in the soap i guess

It's most important depending on the application!

Only for the finish to match most factory hone lines. But of course all the experts know the factory don't have a clue on how to finish a hone line.

It is my belief that the Shapton Professional 2000 grit that I use, is as hard, or harder, than most 3000 grit stones out there.

2000 grit is still 2000 grit, may be harder but still 2000.
