      I’m thinking the same thing. If I was the other team, I’d walk the 2 power hitters every time. Make sure the boys pounce once they are forced to change pitchers. This could make the game close to not have to resign. That would be my goal as the opposing manager. Maybe bunt every player since they might get no hit anyway, Except the top 2 batters and hope to get walked otherwise. Make them work for it. Create errors wherever possible.

    • @philipmcniel4908
      @philipmcniel4908 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Mikeb-sd8hm I'm leaning toward expecting that to happen anyway, but Tennessee was *way* down their pitching depth chart when they played HI last time. They started with Nash Carter and then switched to William Satinoff IIRC, which means that not only were they not using their best pitchers, but they never had the SS/2B duo (the one that we saw making the double plays tonight) in their main positions at the same time.
      IMO this Tennessee coach really showed that he knew his players with how he rotated the positions--especially the pitcher--over the last three games. Put Trent in against Indiana, have Jack close that one out with Trent at 1st, use depth during the first Hawaii game (since you have to use it sooner or later), put Drew in for the entire Texas game to rest literally everyone else, and I'm guessing go to T-Rex again for the final against Hawaii, _perhaps_ with someone like Jack closing that one out if necessary.
      Only problem with this is that in the unlikely event that the pitching change is enough for them to BEAT Hawaii this time, you've got a serious pitching depth issue for the world final the next day and probably end up either having Jack pitch the whole thing (with the downside that their 2nd string catcher is sometimes too high with his throws to 2nd base from what little we saw in the Indiana game), or go back to Nash and/or Sati with the obvious downside of losing the double-play potential at 2nd and SS. But what do I know? This coach still knows his players better than any of us, so it will be interesting to see what happens. All I know is, I'm predicting that Trent McNiel pitches once again in the final against Hawaii.

      I can't wait to see what happens when Tennessee uses the pitcher(s) near the top of their depth chart in this next game, thus placing Sati and Carter in their main positions at SS and 2nd base. I'm guessing Hawaii can still win on homers alone, but I want to see a good game!
      (Oh yeah...and while I know it's impossible to predict how players will develop at this age, I'm actually rooting for one or more players from this Tennessee team to get to the majors one day. Maybe Sati? Or possibly--dare I hope for this one as his cousin--Trent McNiel if he keeps developing as a pitcher? I'd definitely follow MLB a lot more closely if that happened! I definitely want Sati to get to play pro ball one day though.)

    In reference to the 4th inning commentary - Tie goes to the runner is a popular interpretation of baseball rules. The claim is that a forced runner, usually the batter-runner, who arrives on base the same time as the ball is safe. However, umpires generally reject the concept that baseball provides for a tie in this way, and instead rule on the basis that either the player or the ball has reached the base first.
    The wording of rule 5.09(a)(10), formerly 6.05(j), of the Official Baseball Rules is that a batter is out when "After a third strike or after he hits a fair ball, he or first base is tagged before he touches first base". Therefore, if the runner or first base is not tagged before he touches first base, he is safe.
    In response to a question from a Little League umpire, Major League Baseball umpire Tim McClelland has written that the concept of a tie at a base does not exist, and that a runner either beats the ball or does not.

    The state of Tennessee has always had excellent high school baseball. On the northeast end in the tri cities back in 1980's and 1990's we had 3 high schools that had good baseball programs in kingsport Dobyns Bennett,sullivan north and sullivan south. Also johnson city science hill,sullivan east and Tennessee high would field good teams. Sullivan north won a couple of AAA state championships back in 1980's when they had expected braves pitcher darren nottingham throwing heat in the low to mid 90's. That was fast pitching back in the early to mid 1980's.
    Now that sullivan county,tn has combined the old sullivan north and sullivan south high schools into one called west ridge i expect them to be a dominant force in 6A baseball.
    Then in te knoxville area oak ridge and knox Farragut high schools have had really good programs. Plua couoke more private school field good teams in can and knox catholic.
    Then in the Nashville metro area they have many good teams.
    Then down around Memphis area the Memphis University high school always fields strong teams.

      @@kaleikim1009 that’s my point. They aren’t uncomfortable crowding because little leaguers rarely pitch inside. Most times the zone is way wide. The one Hawaii kid got hit by a pitch. His next at bat, he was more off the plate. Don’t forget they are young kids. Giving them a brushback puts them just a little more hesitant! Taiwan vs Curacao for the international and Hawaii vs Tennessee for the US. I liked Tennessee's offensive skills the first time I saw them play, so I'm good with where everything stands. I'll be pulling for Taiwan in the international bracket and Tennessee in the US bracket. Hawaii is probably the favorite, but coming from California, it's usually Hawaii that knocks our teams out of the LLWS. Been a great tournament so far.
